It is estimated that the upcoming Strong Hybrids will be priced ~ 15-20 % as compared to its conventional petrol counterpart.

But in the case of Toyota-Suzuki, it could drop even further as the Hybrid components are speculated to be localised.

But a bigger play on hybrids will come from Toyota-Suzuki combine in India. The much-awaited midsize SUV from Toyota is expected to come with a localised hybrid solution.

Speaking of petrol counterpart, any ideas about other engine options? Since strong hybrid is coming, the mild hybrid setup with 1.5 NA is out of question. It was a pretty efficient setup with good efficiency and performance. I wonder what other engine is on the cards, the 1.4turbo or a simple K15 like the current Brezza?

IMO, it would be the 1.5L engine, whether it will be from Suzuki or Toyota is the question.

1.4L Turbo engine is not being set-up for Hybrids globally, offering that engine as a variant, alternate to the Strong Hybrid is a possibility.

I am thinking whether there would be any engines without the Hybird tech on this SUV. 1.4 turbo may not be viable in lower trims. Only option remaining is 1.5NA without hybrid.

To cater to a wider customer base I guess there will be non-Hybrid variants.
Strong Hybrid will be in the top ( two ?) variants.

They will do so to gain all lost ground in the Mid-SUV segment which is now crowded with almost all players and will need to have a cost advantage.

So far we had seen Toyota's CH-R, Yaris Cross SUV, Yaris Hatch, Suzuki Vitara, undergoing tests in India. So the speculations are high on Hybrids and non-hybrids but unknown which direction they would take on the engines/powertrains.

An ideal engine line-up would be

1. A 1.5l NA engine with manual and auto option. Most likely would be one from Suzuki.

2. A turbo petrol with manual and auto options. Toyota doesn't seem to have modern small turbo petrols. Toyota seems to be following right sized NA engines strategy in the lower segments, while turbo petrols are reserved for more sporty or more expensive models. Most likely the 1.4l Boosterjet from Suzuki again.

3. A proper hybrid. Not sure if it is from Toyota or from Suzuki. Hope it is a Toyota hybrid.

As Toyota( and Maruti) is going HYBRID in the mainstream segments, Toyota starts the awareness campaign on Hybrids.

Coming soon? Honda started its hybrid awareness campain a few days before City Hev unveil. Are we looking at an iminent launch or atleast unveil of the hybrid range from Toyota? The rumoured Diwali launch seem to be too far away now.

As Maruti has not started advertising the HYBRID, the launch may be some time away

This Toyota ad may be a way to be in the limelight and keep some attention when Honda is launching a Hybrid. The launch is not going to happen before the Brezza / Urban Cruiser launch.

Toyota has been pretty heavy on promoting hybrid for the last one year. Especially on social media.

Sure, they have only the Camry and Vellfire, but the promotion for these two has been high with the emphasis on their hybrid system. So much so, the Camry must have seen more advert/promotion in the last one year than it has seen in its 20 years of being on sale in India. Add to that all those intercity trips/race track timing promotions by media.

re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

For folks shopping in the Creta/Seltos segment this is starting to look like an exciting launch
1. Interior looks good (if this is from the actual car).
- Physical buttons yay!
- Nice looking leather seat
- Decent sized sunroof (would have loved it if it was panoramic though)
- Like the placement of the multimedia screen. It is neither too high sitting on top of the dash, nor too low being fully integrated below the dateline.
2. I like the bit about instant torque at startup from the Electric motor, and then the 2 motors working together as your speed builds up. The Honda City hybrid reviews talk about lethargic startup acceleration and hopefully Toyota can address this.

This most likely is the Camry, to be honest. The roof line, seats, sunroof, dash, instrument cluster looks just like it. Unlikely to be the Mid-Size SUV that's still under camouflaged testing.

This seems to be the 2018 Camry Hybrid. The seat design matches exactly.

Moreover, the Creta challenger may not be that "powerful" - the same K15C engine may be used, IMO. Powerful for a sub-4m car, but not for a bigger one.
