KA HC allows BH series to private employees

Citizens won the legal fight against corrupt IAS/KAS officers (the government) to get BH registration for cars in Karnataka.

re: KA HC allows BH series to private employees

Does this mean that anyone can re register his/ her car as a BH if his/ her company has multiple offices and he/ she is in a transferable job?
If such re registration is possible, then will the govt refund the huge life tax it collected at the time of purchase?

This is such a wonderful news.
It would take ~2/3 years for our public to use it to the fullest.

If 1 Lakh people who paid 1 Lakh in road taxes opt for BH plates, the outgo from State government pockets would be 1000 Crores.
So, They might make it very difficult or ... something else.
Getting money out of government pockets, which has already been spent would be difficult, i guess.

I don't think you can re-register, but atleast new buyers will benefit.

Likely not. The thing is, a lot of that money they took from you as the "15-year state road tax" has already been plundered into the personal pockets of government officers and department ministers via "public work" schemes to fund their real-estate purchase, children's UG degree in the west, designer European brands, jewelry and so on.

It seems owners with BH registration are already facing problem in getting PUC certificate.

Here is the thread (PUC of cars with BH registration).

Oh, my poor Summer child. I remember reading somewhere (can't locate it now) that people can reregister by paying tax.

Cheers

Anyone wondering about refunds, there's a saying in Kannada:

ಸ್ಮಶಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದ ಹೆಣ ಮತ್ತೇ ಸರ್ಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದ ಹಣ, ಯಾವತ್ತೂ ವಾಪಸ್ ಬರಲ್ಲ.

(A corpse to cremation grounds and money to government, never comes back).

I'm actually less sure about the corpse.

re: KA HC allows BH series to private employees

Great news! Thanks to the fight by fellow bhpian to get this order passed.

Nevertheless, it's such a sad state of affairs that one had to approach judiciary to get this implemented in Karnataka. I feel that the state Government did not want to let go of the fat road tax it collects from us and hence was just decided to deny private employees of BH series.

Let's see how quickly this order translates into action on the ground because Government departments and babus are notorious in acting on the first order.

Is BH series allowed for private employees in other states like Andhra Pradesh?

re: KA HC allows BH series to private employees

Tamil Nadu and the other southern states haven’t even registered a single vehicle under BH scheme. I think they do not even allow it for Central Public Sector employees. Hopefully a PIL approach takes steam in these states as well.

I think it should be possible to take a temporary transfer to a BH state, buy and register vehicle there and come back after a year to home office. Many private companies, especially in IT sector do not care at all and happy to have you work out of any office in the country. For bachelors without family and other ties to any city, and aspiring to buy say, a 20 lakh SUV, this may not be a bad equation as one can save 3-4 lakhs upfront.

re: KA HC allows BH series to private employees

Was just reading this today, BH registration rules have been tweaked.

Vehicles currently having regular registration, can also be converted to BH series registration.

re: KA HC allows BH series to private employees

The state of Kerala, ever the recalcitrant, is sweating it out in the court fighting this losing battle against BH series. Congratulations to Nitin Gadkari and team for placing the consumer above the government. The state government is already fleecing people by the demand to pay 15 years of road tax upfront. It is nothing but highway robbery. These politicians have their windscreens flogged and have no rear view mirror. May their ABS fail.
