And you get a petrol engine that will be far more fuel efficent than Thar which get 6-7 kmpl in city according to forum reviews.

Jimny is a well received international product, unlike Thar whose owners are still worried about basic stuff like central locking. In my opinion, even if Suzuki prices it a lakh higher than Thar, it will still be a success. I think even some Thar owners will think about replacing their steeds with Jimny.
FYI, Thar 2WD is a 1.5L diesel manual, hence the real world fuel efficiency is expected to be around 14 kmpl. Definitely the fuel bill is going to be less compared to Jimny. The RWD, more power and torque and road presence are bonus. If Jimny is far more desirable than Thar, why did Maruti hesitate to launch it all these years? The reality is that Jimny is going to take off more sales from Brezza than from the Thar.

This looks wider than Jimny to my eyes. Also Jimny should be able to flat fold after removing heat rest from the rear seat.

We only got a brief look and no chance to sit inside, and the opinion reflects that. Only a full review would provide a clear picture.

One thing's for sure, it NOT a spacious family car by any stretch of the imagination. 4 pax of average Indian build + light luggage is how I'd look at it.

This car is also NOT going to replace other road and family friendly cars in the 10-20L price range as a choice in anyone's shopping list.

I did sit inside and had spent good 15 minutes with the car. Not many know but the rear seats have 2 recline discreet positions. Not sure why its given but I guess to term it as a feature.

Not true. The 5d Jimny was first seen testing in Europe. As such it is destined for S America, S Africa, Latin America and Australia.

This 5d SUV will be sold in Europe as it is rumoured to get an electrified powertrain due to emission reasons. (1.4l or mild hybrid)
In fact, reports from Japan show that one unit is already shipped there for further development I suppose.

Could be but as of now, it is banned in Europe for passenger segment; but my point being that the width constraints are mainly due to Japan.

re: Maruti Jimny 4-door @ Auto Expo 2023

With 3,000 bookings in 2 days, Maruti Suzuki Jimny already commands a 3-month waitlist.

Maruti Suzuki's Fronx gets 750 bookings as of today morning's update.

Quote:
Jimny at the Auto Expo, has bagged bookings of 3,000 units of the lifestyle sports utility vehicle (SUV). Anticipating robust orders for Jimny in the coming days, a senior company official claimed that the waiting period for this model has already gone up to three months.
Quote:
MSIL has garnered 750 units of the newly unveiled Fronz (a crossover version of the Baleno hatchback) until the 14th morning.
Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director - Sales and Marketing, MSIL:
Quote:
Since Jimny is a global cult brand, there was already a section of buyers, who were eagerly waiting to buy it. Till today (14th January) morning, we have garnered 2,500 bookings, and by the end of the day we are confident of having 3,000 confirmed bookings
Quote:
The pricing and monthly output are very difficult (numbers) to discern at this moment. The introductory price will depend on multiple factors on what the competitor’s price range is, as well as input costs and total cost of production during those times.
Quote:
While the waitlist for this model has already gone up to two-three months, I won’t be surprised if we manage to book 10,000 units in a month or so, and customers get to wait for six months.
MSIL is currently grappling with a pending order book of 366,000 units, of which Ertiga constitutes 91,000 units (31 weeks wait time), Brezza 71,000 units (23-24 weeks wait time) and Grand Vitara 57,000 units (12-16 weeks wait time).
There is speculation that Maruti Jimny may be priced in the range of Rs 10-12.5 lakh, which the company didn’t comment on.

The rear seats do not fold completely but remain at 25 degree angle or so - that extra space would be only good for soft luggage spillover like backpacks haversacks and light luggage. Do the WagonR seats fold to a full flat configuration?[/quote]

In three door version which is sold outside India, the rear seats fold FLAT

5 door LHD Jimny was caught testing a good year after the ban of the 3 door in EU. So considering the demand world wide and the R&D investment made by Suzuki. I don't think the dimmensions have any impact. The main reason people by the Jimny worldwide is due to its dimmensions, remember the people outside India have a lot more options to buy with lot more money to spend.

Even in its 3 door format, the Jimny easily outsells the Swift in Australia. The Jimny has a huge cult following in Australia and even New Zealand from the 1st gen, 2nd gen exported maruti Gypsies, 3rd gen and the 4th gen. They have dedicated forums just for them.

In Uk and EU the demand was more then supply. Waiting period was more then a year, until the emission ban came in place. So expect a Hybrid in those markets.

When the diesel hammer comes, Thar will be in trouble. While Suzuki will plonke in a hybrid engine rumoured to have 33 hp of additional power over the ICE for the Japanese 3 door variant.

I am almost of the same size like Mr. Bunny Punia, and my wife would be 6 inches shorter than his companion.

But, in this review video, their arms were touching in the front seats. This is very irritating. Left hand of driver will definitely rub against co-passenger's upper leg.

Anyway, I wait for the full review and a physical verification of interior space. Then I'll decide. Interior space similar to Ignis is acceptable.

I sat inside a Gypsy only during the Jim Corbett Safari. And that Gypsy king open type Safari vehicle was spacious enough for 4 persons+ luggage.

Jimny is very popular among off-roading specialists outside India. We watched so many Jimny related YouTube videos. Though Jimny is tiny, less power, less torque, small wheel and tyre size and section, less comfortable ride; it is able to serve the purpose and do all sorts of off-roading duties without any constraints. As a regular utility vehicle in tough terrains and off-roading purposes, the Jimny is almost perfect-just like an Alto. Tiny footprint, built for purpose, petrol engine, BULLET PROOF RELIABILITY, best service network- what else do we need? For road presence focused buyers, there is the Thar.

Measuring once should have been enough considering Jimny doesn't change its dimensions no matter how hard it is being driven

re: Maruti Jimny 4-door @ Auto Expo 2023

Finally the cat is out of the bag! Seeing the response, pretty sure it will also be a big hit. I was expecting some sort of Hybrid tech as well which would allow it to be (re)introduced in the EU markets. But, I guess that’s for later, maybe next year. Suzuki is probably banking on the demand from other markets to recoup the development costs in the initial phases.

Eagerly waiting for the official review now, to see how the rear seat comfort and ride quality is.

Test drives for the common man are probably still a long time away. Why offer test drives when people are booking cars without seeing them in flesh! I hope this trend stops at some point.

Well said.. out of these 3K booking, almost 2K could be cancelled as soon as they taste the driving of front rigid live axle.
