Well everyone here seems to like the AXE and it looks like a much better replacement for the Gypsy but on the other hand doesn't it look like a cheap imitation of the Hummer! I mean they could have finalized hundreds of designs that looked diffrent but why one that looks like a hummer!

How come the wiper direction is LHD oriented?

Saw the pics again. The rear too is independent. Isn't that great?

NO. Ram 2000 is a Armoured Personal carrier and not a regular troop carrier, so Mahindra Axe cannot be a copy of it. I think Army settled for a Abhay that is under development at DRDO, so the Mahindra-Israel collaboration didn't go through. There may be an Israeli input in Axe if the 300-400 hp engine rumor is true but that would be about it I guess.

or may be..

mayavi it could be possible that mahindra has taken inputs from the ram2000 and various other designs to build the axe. i am sure they must have utilised the isreali inputs to build something unique and different from the run of the mill army cars of the past.
i have my doubts of the car haveing a 300-400hp engine. it probably could carry the scorpio's export 180 hp engine or a new 200hp engine

Yeah, I don't think they need 400 HP and top speed of 240 KM for a vehicle that will only be used in Desert and some inhospitable Himalayan terrain. Only the heavy TATRA trucks have engines that produce more than 300 HP.

the vipers also have me puzzled. maybe they are just for show and were fitted to give a complete look for the test run and inspection by the army people. the other reason i could think of is that it may have to do something with better visibility in the rains.

Just had a meeting with a getleman from Mahindra Defence Systems... will be going over to look at the construction facility of TheAxe on monday or wednesday. Meanwhile go to know a lot of things about the vehicle, especially the engine and drivetrain... cant reveal stuff yet, but pics and details will be in Autocar anniversary issue which hits the stands tomorrow. Cheers.
