The entire gang of thieves was caught when trying to register the car in Bangalore. Currently, they are cooling their heels in jail.

Hey, can someone list out the security systems other than autocop, available in india here? wud be of immense help to all.
Here are a few I came across during my alarm hunt last week. All products offer a 3-year warranty, except the Xenos.
  • Xenos www.xenos.co.in. The only one it seems that comes with a lifetime warranty. Made by Pricol India.
  • Terminator. I am told this is a brand from Autocop
  • Piranha. I suppose this is a also brand from Autocop. Is the next higher segment from the Terminator.
  • Silicon www.silicon.com.sg/alarm.html Though from Singapore, has local service centers like the others
  • Nippon. Most Maruti dealerships offer this one

After much research and deliveration, I had the Piranha DX [PDX999] installed on my Opel Corsa SAIL 1.4. Here's why:

(i) Called the Opel dealership for a recommendation. Learnt that "Autocop" is the only OPEL-approved (*India*) product. So that meant I had to choose between the Terminator and the Piranha -- which I learnt were made by Autocop.

(ii) The installer-electrician recommended the Piranha over the Terminator because it met the "earthing" requirement for the Corsa. The Silicon was not recommended for this car.

(iii) The Xenos model with the Shock Sensor was expensive. The Piranha already came with one as standard [user-adjustable sensitivity].

A good rule of thumb is to do the research for your car in particular, talk with real users about the issues they faced and ask as many open ended questions to installers before deciding.

Great to find out that the Lancer was found and even better to find that the Thieves were caught.

q: Did the cops make any trouble about the mods to the car??

As far as safety goes, i have a Xenos thingy in my car.
But basically where i park it in my building, damn its damn hard to take the car out.

My moms driver can barely take her santro out,
An donly my father & Me can back any large car out of there in one go.
Everone else takes lots of attempts!!! That is if they succeed!!
I have geographical security!!!

I saw some of the earlier posts in this thread and I can see why people have reduced faith in car alarm systems.

Thought I'll add a note that on the corsa, that there's an additional dead-lock facility one can use for some marginally-more safety. Not much help if someone gets in by breaking window glass though.

[*A dead-lock prevents unlocking the doors (and boot) even if one is inside the car or has access to the unlocking mechanism. A dead-lock can only be opened with a key via the driver-side door*]

So when I park my car in some places, I engage the dead-lock first before arming. It also requires me to do the reverse procedure for unlocking -- that is to disarm first before opening the deadlock.

What brand of gear-lock do you have right now?

Thats re-assuring revvhead. However, car owners often are faced with a situation that require them to leave their car at places other than their apartment -- shopping, visiting, eating out, etcetera...

Hopefully those situations should be brief periods in comparison.
