Would be the ideal mix. NA petrol engine for low price point. Turbo petrols in both manual and automatic for performance. Strong hybrid option to make up for the lack of diesel.

I agree. There is even less rationale for Maruti to introduce the Swift Sport here unless they want to milk some moolah out of this engine as IV engines are slowly on the decline in Europe. Similar to what Skoda and VW are upto in India.

Given their stated strategy to use SUV launches to claw back 50% market share, the chances of this engine landing up in one of their SUVs is much more probable. Hell even the 1.0 boosterjet would have bestowed better perfomance on the SCross, Brezza and XL6 than the current 1.5.

Drive on,
Shibu.

So the team behind the Zen "Classic" design has still not been fired and very much around.

Re: Suzuki Swift Sport Coming to India: Edit: Or probably not!

Suzuki did have an enthusiast friendly car in the recent past. The Scross 1.6. And we all know how it went for them. The badge is associated with low price and fuel efficiency. And changes from these formulae have not been good for them.

And we can go back further with Suzuki and their failed attempts at bringing in more enthusiast cars.

The Kizashi was a masterstroke of a sedan that no one bought, from 2011-2014 you could walk into a Maruti Suzuki showroom and for the price of a Civic or Corolla buy a 2.4L Inline 4 Suzuki that made the same power as a BMW 320i of the same era. Yes the 2011-2015 BMW 320i (F30) made the same 180hp as the Kizashi but no one bought it, I'm pretty sure Maruti Suzuki sold more WagonR's in the last 10 days than they did Kizashi's in the 4 years it was sold in India.

The Grand Vitara was a good 5 seater SUV that performed well on the road as well as off road. Sure you had the old Mahindra jeeps that could beat the Grand Vitara off road but in it's day there was no other SUV on the market that was as versatile as the Grand Vitara.

Then there was the XL-7, a proper American sized SUV with a 2.7L V6 based on a stretched version of the Grand Vitara platform. If you remove the Suzuki badges from this car you could easily convince the average person that it's a lifestyle suv that a rich business man imported from Europe in the 2000's, it's that good.

It's not like Maruti didn't try, we just never bought their cars.

Swift Sport spied again sporting the ARAI sticker, now seen in Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

-Is the 1.4-litre Booster Jet petrol engine India bound?

Re: Suzuki Swift Sport Coming to India: Edit: Or probably not!

What's with the "BYE 230 B" plates on all these Swift's?

I also remember seeing them on that Toyota Rav4 that was spotted undisguised around the same time last year (April 2021), I also found a picture of a Jeep Wrangler Sahara from 2019 with "BYE 230 D" plates.

Re: Suzuki Swift Sport Coming to India: Edit: Or probably not!

Spotted testing in Lucknow. at first I thought it was a swift from Nepal (given the red plate). Came closer, only to realise it was the ‘Swift Sport’ variant. The exhaust tips did look after market but overall neat.

Re: Suzuki Swift Sport Coming to India: Edit: Or probably not!

It is priced from Rs 14,00,000 to Rs. 20,00,000 varying from country to country. I know this is not the best way to guess the price but isn't that a bit high for what it offers? In the unlikely chance that it ever comes to India, would they bother to domestically manufacture it here in order to keep costs in check, as it would also enable the use of boosterjet in future products .

Caught again in Bangalore (BTM Layout). Looks like the front logo was removed to accommodate testing equipment.

The Swift Sport and it's 1.4L Turbo Hybrid 4 Cylinder would be a punch in the face to the 1.0L Turbo 3 Cylinder engines that manufacturers these days seem to be putting in our Indian "hot hatches" like the i20 and the now discontinued Polo GT.

Plus the market is basically begging for a good hot hatch due to the entire Polo model being killed off and the i20 Turbo being expensive and coming with either an uninspiring iMT or a DCT which is a type of transmission know to be problematic in Indian conditions.

So all I can do I beg Suzuki to please listen to the enthusiast for once and launch this car in India and to not discontinue it like the amazing but short-lived S-Cross 1.6 Diesel.
