Test driven and ripped: the 2.2

Hi Guys,

So i can say I am the first one in Hyderabad to test Drive the vehicle as told to me by Concorde. Here are the points:

1.) Amazing work on the engine noise. Engine noise is equal to Swift DDIS
2.) Amazing work on Vibrations inside the cabin. The vehicle is as calm as indica xeta
3.) Problem with 1st gear. Rest of the gears are very smooth
4.) Design defect in gear knob. The metal rod hits the base plastic panel when put in 1st gear. The TD vehicle was 50 kms driven still the leather wrap on the stick got torn off.
5.) Ground clearence clarification: 205 mm which is exactly equal to 3L so no improvements on the front
6.) Suspension have been reworked adding a little extra body roll as compared to 3L
7.) Pick up good in 1st and 2nd gear but 3L is way better in pick up in 3rd gear
8.) Engine knocking is way better during no race and car moving on torque
9.) Engine makes a strange and weird noise at 1800-1900 rpm. I am told that its tapit noise and can be removed with proper PDI. However there is no body in service centres who can fix it due to no training. My doubt is that its not just tapit but something else
10.) Clutch very smooth but sticks somewhere when released
11.) Good work on Seat belts. very smooth now
12.) Plastic as pathetic as 3L with misconfiguration and misfits everywhere
13.) Third row seats given 3 mm extra cushion
14.) LX is available in 3L with grey interiors. Already in transit
15.) Nobody can get delivery in next 7 days as though the vehicle is RTO approved, still some problem and RTOs not accepting life tax so no deliveries
16.) free revving engine
17.) Though i dont belive and have not seen the figures, the guy told me that it is almost 400 kgs lighter than 3L
18.) Breaking could have been better i guess
19.) new grill looks good, scuff plates look better now
20.) Little work on steering wobble. Its better but not gr8
21.) Steering alignment better, is smoother now. Taking "U" turns was pleasent
22.) As i mentioned earlier, i think there is a little body roll added. At high speed, taking a turn could be frightning and can get out of control. Though after some time, we will get used to it.
23.) Smoke level same as 3L on acceleration, though its actually BS4 (released as BS3 for name sake)

Good TD report there Rajiv,

I am getting TD from Autofin tomorrow, will post my experiences as well.

from your report and from the report of a member from Ludhiana(he has started a seperate thread) it seems that htere may not be too much of a difference in real terms between teh 2.2 and the 3.0- 1st and 2nd gear 2.2 is better, thereafter 3.0 comes into its own.

NVH, the 2.2 definitely seems a major improvement.

Note sure, didn't get into a commercial discussion. I am sure one can extract that discount.

i am more worried about that strange noise at 1800 rpm (confirmed by guy earlier, noise at 60 KMPH). I think 3L is still good deal. If we can have smooth power delivery at low speed on 3L, i wont think of 2.2 at all. I mean like its good that noise and vibrations are less. But I nowhere felt the increase in 25 bhp (140-115) which should be almost like 2 bullet motorcycles. 2.2 has smooth power delivery as low speeds. I wish we could get a VGT for 3L

Moreover somewhere I think that the best TATA did was not to hike the price by gr8 margin. They know that any further price rise and people would better like to take 3L. I mean 18K hike is sufficient for adding VGT. Cabin noise and vibrations have been worked on the coming stock of 3L as well.

In factI think it will be interesting to test drive 3L again from the post oct manufacturing stock as I have been told that a lot have been done on vibrations and noise

try installing a KnN filter in your truck, it should improve the bottom end a bit- remove it and replace with your stock filter everytime you send it for service, and your warranty remains intact

actually, we should meet up and you should drive my dicor- mine is an Aug 07 manufactured one and the NVH is far better than the TD dicors I drove at mallik and concorde.
