Its not his fault, its the government that has been using this sort of logic to keep us poor, under developed country for the last 6 decades. While the rest of world builds facilities first hoping to see development, India restricts development so that existing facilities do not need to be expanded.

China built massive airports and railway stations that could meet the project demand 20 years from now. India on the other hand is building airports that could be overcrowded by the time the construction is complete.

Wow! This is great news. A real Indian dream come true!

Steer! Ain't we supposed to be at the unveiling? :uncontrol

Atleast if this is a success it will probably make the thinktank think of ways of alleviating the pain by improving on it. As it is the cities need better public transport rather than personal transportation options.

agree: , can we stop buying TVs, ACs, Computers and other electronic items just because there is not enough electercity!!!!!!!!!!

This is great news. Well if TATA has managed to extract 25 kmpl from their petrol engine, it makes me wonder what they have done with their diesel...

Read in the Economic Times a month or so ago, that Diesel variant will sport a 800 cc CRDI engine developed by Bosch, with Turbo from Honeywell. They are claiming mileage, upward of 30kmpl!

Yap, it said the engine was tested for 26kmpl on petrol and they were trying to bring it upto 30.

There is no word on diesel yet.

When we look at this from the big cities' perspective, the argument of infrastructure and the choking of roads might be valid. Even then, we can't blame it on the car but the administrator.

But this car will make a lot of sense to the small town, rural people. Where road infrastructure and traffic is not a big issue. Lots of families dreaming of a car but unable to own one will get the chance to realize their dream.

What are the models that will be unviled here. only petrol or even diesel also

Seriously I am Wondering, Why People here are worried about cities getting choked. Even If the one lakh car is not there our cities would face the same problem (maybe a little later)

Anyway what we have to consider is the fact that Buying a car is just the first aspect of a Car's life. Most important thing would be filling fuel in it and it is not getting any cheaper.

Public might use the car only when going out with family or during rains etc. , Not many ppl will use it for their daily needs. (Take the case of 800, many users of it keep it as a showpiece and take it once a week)

Anyway Lets see how the drama unfolds. Maybe this is also an eyeopener for the Civic authorities to look into alternate modes of transport.

It takes our government 20 years to just get the tenders done. Even before a road is finished it begins to cumble away. The GOI needs a good :deadhorse

Here is the latest on this One Lac Wonder!!!!!

Z-plus security for Tata small car

its got a rear engine and they are talking of using plastics a lot. on our roads where it is impossible to drive without getting rear-ended by cycles, bikes, bluelines, cows etc, what would be the impact on engine and rear passengers of a rear-bump?

hey the add ons are ranging from ,paint for the car, maybe seats for them and if you prefer braking the car then maybe brakes would be given at a hefty price and that adds to 2.2 lakhs on road.
the car cost you 1L exshowroom and the buyer is in for a surprise when the dealer sales person asks you the color choice and there is the luxury of going custom.the premium you would have to shell out maybe 50000.
all these are going arround for sometime.lets wait and watch.

Looks like they are taking all steps to prevent any images of the car from leaking out to the public before they actually unviel it.

The Delhi Auto Expo is definately going to be crowded :)

Not just roads, I am also concerned about the service station experience. There will be a huge increase in the volumes at Tata's service stations, and I hope Tata either arm-twist existing dealers, or appoint new dealers to ensure that people can get their Tata vehicles attended to.

@Supersyn

A friend of mine who worked with TATA Motors told me that new dealerships are being setup to cater the expected increase in Demand.

Delhi seems to be the place to be in jan. Anyone from Kolkata planning a trip to expo?

Yes, thats another thing to be kept in mind. The existing service stations are already bogged down by the Taxi crowd and this will only serve to increase the load.

But I'm hoping Tata's have a plan to take care of this.
