I dont own one but provided they sold it with a slightly more powerfull engine( not much just abount 20-25 bhp) and slightly better FE ( range of 11-13) then this could be a very nice choice .
at that price and with that performance and FE it would be really tempting

new GV 2.4L

Guys, when is the new Vitara with the 2.4L engine supposed to be launched? I asked at the local maruti dealer here and they have no clue about a new version. Will there be a hike in price?

I have my serious doubt now about Maruti Launching 2009 model in India soon. in previous mails we estimated that by Nov -dec 08 2009 model should come to India (as the japanese factory will produce only the new model from Nov 08 onwards) , but there is total silence from Maruti on this and half of Oct has gone by.

I am now very hopeful now. Maruti may be focusing on A STAR launch and diesel Dezire rather than 2009 model It would be really sad if we do not get 2009 model

Any update on this?

Their site still shows the old specs.

I'm buying a car this month and would be willing to wait if this was going to come out anytime soon.

From my sources I came to know that they have finally sold out the previous stock and next lot is targeted for import in April. Pricing will go through a change due to Rupee depreciation (others have also hiked prices).

I am also awaiting the launch although I am going to be again in buying mode by end of the year/early next year.

Sudev, I know from all the threads i've read that you're a major GV fan, so your inputs are appreciated.

You think its worth waiting for? And any idea what it will cost?

My city running is about 1k kms/mo and plan to do about 3-6 long distance (300-1200kms) every year.

For me GV is going to be a long term vehicle. I'll probably keep it until they start running out of spare parts. Since I've only added 12K in 16 months, it might take me 10 years to 1 lakh Kms. Sudev will reach there in 2 years.

if they have a fantastic product.it will sell itself. ok its no volume play.

i am damn sure in a country of a billion people there wouldnt be people who would be ready to shell out the money if they get a good product.

they should bring in the 230 hp vitara with the leather seats and the whole shbang!!!!

it will sell itself i am sure!!

Dont think Suzuki is going to do a diesel.
The V6 GV from US markets is the high BHP beast but with Indian mind set on economy (average kya deti ha?) not likely.
Eevn the Indian version is de-tuned. The current GV is 119bhp in India and 129bhp in Japan/Europe.

Even I love the GV for looks and 4x4.
However, waited for a better engine and finally bought a used Tucson.

The current GV was being offered to me for a great discount (almost 2 lacks).
It looked a reasonable deal until I found a Tucson for much lower price.

The whole exercise left me wondering - why don't peple look out for used cars (me included)!

@anandpadhye: Tuscon looked good to me too but I was held back due to fact I it is limited 4x4 with no high low range. The off road areas I have been going to needs that low end range once iin a while. Other than that drove Tuscon of a friend two years back through sand and was quite happy.

A year later drove th vehicle again and I found the vehicle feeling not quite the old self. The odo was at ~25k. The owner is a good maintainer so that is not the area of problem.

Compared to this GV at 85k is still feeling good.

Of course...the 4x4 of the Tucson is not as good as that of the GV. No low range! Also the very low end torque could be better (experienced that in the Jesailmer sand and on steep slopes of Shimla parking lots)...

But, above 1800 RPM the car simply rocks. And it still does after 70,000 KM on the odo. Don't know what's going on with your friend's Tucson (I hope he gets the right service team to sort it out). OK, don't want to hijack this thread...coming back to GV - seems super dicsounts going on for anyone who can live with the J20A engine...
