The Presidential car or the PM car should be symbolic of the country's automobile industry if there is any. Though we can't compromise on their safety,at least for symbolic functions like Republic day, can't our domestic companies make atleast a one-off model like what the chinese did?
i have also thought about the same but , alas, this will not happen. we are a servile people and our leaders reflect the same as one can see how they grovel in front of everybody including foreign dignitaries. the Chinese have pride in themselves and their accomplishments. a homegrown national limousine will never happen in india. instead we are happy to pay the Germans six crore plus for a presidential car and they're the ones laughing all the way to the bank and at us.

This thread is getting into serious sarcasm!!!
BTW who are our real head of states. PM who always says that whenever Rahulji order I will quit. So when there are serious doubts regarding who is the real Head of State how can the car be finalised. I think till then public transportation is a good option for PM and President. Coincidentally our President travelled by Delhi Metro today.
Another alternative is open Double Decker bus where Sonia, Rahul, Priyanka, Robert and kids can travel on the top level and PM and President and few CMs on the lower level to show who is the real boss, and during monsoons just opposite to show who is the real 'chamchas'.

In view of this valid point, let us then amend the draft and pass a resolution to allow politicians to use exclusive transportation only when they do meaningful and progressive work at their destination. At any rate, this will not lead to much different an outcome from the previous recommendations as it will be an extremely rare occurrence!

On a serious note, it looks like this thread broaches a pretty sensitive subject that agitates many of us here, probably owing to the fact that they arrogate to themselves decisions of how OUR money should be spent on THEMSELVES, with apparently zero sense of appropriateness.

Give public servants a functional and secure vehicle that makes frugal use of public money in order to fetch returns to the public. I didn't mention the manufacturer, make, model and specs, but one could work out the right solution if only the privilege of access to public money were not abused. "If only..."

The best vehicle for all politicians is the one used by Satish Shah in "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro", a cult comedy movie. In fact, the scene where that "vehicle" is used is, in my opinion, one of the best comedy scenes of Bollywood. He (rather his dead body) drives a coffin!

Re: Best car for our Politicians. What do you think?

I am totally against politicians using public transport. That would be nothing but nuisance to general public at large, considering how they travel (often in large entourages with all kinds of rowdy elements etc).

I hope (and pray to God) that they are off roads as much as possible! So I hope most of them are given choppers to travel around! That would save a lot of lives every year (given that many people could not reach hospital on time as traffic was held up for VIP movement).

A politician on the road is just a big traffic hazard!

They should be given a HANDCART for daily rides from their homes to offices so that they will actually save fuel with environment and will have some actual experiences on how do the AAM AADMI lives. If this appears too loud, MODS. have full rights...

Re: Best car for our Politicians. What do you think?

Politicians should buy their own car, they are corrupt and rich enough anyways, why should tax payers bear expense for their every luxury?

OT: We should collect an annual corruption tax from every elected representative from corporator upwards, starting at Rs 1 Cr per annum. They are in politics to make money anyways :P

Think again, their service might become costlier.

I will say ask them to ride a horse (or even better its close cousin). One MLA in UP has already demonstrated it. The Fodder must be bought by the fellow himself, else we will end up with fodder scams aplenty. This will be the best Eco-friendly solution

Another option, which will support the Indian economy is to make then ride a Nano! SUVs must be banned in all conditions. Maybe then the roads will improve.

Re: Best car for our Politicians. What do you think?

To begin with, all the elected public representatives are to be allotted an MUV like a Bolero/Sumo from the Govt pool with Govt driver and fuel. This vehicle should be used for their daily commute discharging their duties and not for their families or personal work.

If a vehicle needs servicing or repairs, a replacement would do duty for the required few days.

The maintenance can be entrusted to State RTCs and proper mechanism is to be evolved so that the elected representative goes about his duties without hindrance.

Re: Best car for our Politicians. What do you think?

The problem with our politicians is that they are neither satisfied with one vehicle nor a class of vehicle's such as basic MUVs even though it makes good practical sense.

These greedy, pampered and disgraced souls look for the best of the brands and status symbols to be driven in at the cost of other hapless folks like us.

Agree with you sir, however the thought also brings in one important insight.

Just imagine the politician and his entire entourage on horses creating havoc on the already stressed traffic system

Cheers
