would suggest, give the politicos some money upto some limit,
if they wanna a flashy car,let them put the rest from thier pockets.

most of the ministers we know use thier own cars, keeping the official car for official use

for ex my unc uses a skoda or my safari when he isnt using the official car (an ford ikon)

But tell me how many MPs/MLAs actually use the official cars allocated to them. These are generally used by some of their assistants who follow the big boss sitting in the big car. Its all a status symbol for these guys.
Dont forget its a Power game
MPs/MLAs are given official govt. issue cars???Is that in Maharashtra only?MLAs have their own personal cars here in Kerala (brought by who's money?Take a guess). They've small red boards on the front and rear with 'MLA' written in white.MPs don't have any specific plates, not in Kerala anyway.I don't know about New Delhi. The state tourist dept. has alotted Ambys,Lancers (Mostly of the LE version),a few Octavias,Corollas,Optras and a lone Astra 1.7TD for Kerala's ministers. But most of them tend to use their own Mercs,Octavias,CRDis,etc. as official vehicles also, with red state boards, siren, red lights, wireless,et al.

The ex PM used the BMW 7 Series. There were some 5 cars absolutely identical to each other. But the PM always used one at a time with the others making rounds of the captital. This was some kinda security arrangement for him, so that no one would exactly know which car he was travelling in.

The current PM was offerred to use these cars, but had turned down the offer saying he preferred the Amby.

I guess all of those BMWs are just lying unused with the PMO, as no one was ready to use them.

He does use then - he has a mix of prebangled and nbangled BMW's 7's. The bangled ones are used within Delhi based on what I see on TV, the other ones are flown around when he is visiting other metros - saw his convoy in Bangalore

i think our politicians should be given indigos as the car is economical to run, looks better than ambassador,is quite reliable, and is a indian car.

The Ambassador isnt really that good a car though it has the best back seat

Its design is copied from the Morris Oxford and just rebadged-like the Optra

Tata Motors which has such a great history and is such an achievment for india should be honoured by making it the official car of india

Maintainance isnt that low though any mechanic can repair it

That design was not a copied design but the original one. They couldn't use the name Morris and that's why Hindustan name came as prefix.

Yea I know
It was actually a licensing agreement
the same with the llancer and the voyager(remember the shipping crate on wheels)
Hindustan Motors buys off licences from car companies to produce cars that they no longer produce and use their logos(mitsubishi and lancer( for example
Premiere did the same with the padmini
also ever wonder why Hindustan Motors would produce a dated Pajero
hmmmm i wonder why hehehehe

I say, make them drive Reva's. This way they can show that they actually care about the country (and its environment). Also, they will have to shed their flab to squeeze into the Reva, which will make them fitter and stronger and able to work harder.

i totally agree - it's what they deserve - and they are allowed to upgrade every time they do something tangibly good ... bullock cart - horse cart - autorickshaw - padmini taxi...but nothing further...

they've made us suffer since independence - lets send them back there.
