I would suggest everyone to read the above press release - it answers most questions, including pricing, positioning of existing V2 and availability of Airbags/ABS.

Looks like killer pricing to me. Its not just swift that is looking horribly overpriced, i think other cars like Getz and i10 are in for a rude shock as well. Just hope the gearbox is good...

Both engines are mated to a new cable aided gearbox with twin synchronisers for precise shift feel and quality. It also has the option of the existing 1.4L turbocharged intercooled TDi engine which has been refined further and mated to a smooth shift gearbox.
So the gearbox issue is settled. The FIAT engines are getting FIAT gearboxes as well. That's nice for both FIAT and Tata.

The Tata engine will retain the 'smooth shifting' gearbox. No loss there, that would be the taxi-touring choice anyway.

EDIT: Oh, also the price is right.

The car is being launched in 7 variants priced at Rs.3.49 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi for the 1.2L petrol Safire at the low end going upto Rs.4.88 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi for the top end 1.3L Quadrajet. The TDi version comes at nearly the same price as the outgoing existing Indica V2 version. The company will launch an ABS, Airbags execution in the domestic market at the time of the car’s debut in international markets.

The car certainly looks like a very good deal.

BTW, visiting http://www.indicavista.com/ now leads you to http://cars.tatamotors.com/indica/in...ta/index.html/ , which is not available yet. Screenshot attached.

Me too. I have driven the V1 extensively and the V2 as well.

The last one, was a brand new Indica V2 Turbo, that too after a gap of few years after driving the V1. My expectation levels were high about this one, and you know what, I was completely disappointed by the fact that most of the stuff in the car still lacked pretty decent levels of sophistication. Be it the engine, transmission, power steering, clutch the door lock knob or whatever. Now with the MJD, at least the engine part will be okay.

Tata manged to sell the car, and will do even better, because its all about what an average Indian customer expects from a car.

The landing site which should be up later tonight:
http://cars.tatamotors.com/indica/in...ta/index.html/

My views are that this car is going to do well and will definately cannibalize the sales of the Palio and is going to give a good option to many of the people waiting for the Swift D.

Until i get my hands on one for a detailed test drive, the specs say that this car is fantastic value for money being a generation ahead of the existing car. In fact, with the lower pricing and discounts the Indica V2 is going to see a surge in sales in the next 2-3 months.

Time will tell if the 'taxi' image will wear off - something unlikely as this is going to be a hit with cab fleet owners.

I drove the Vista today. The car starts up with hardly a shudder. Engine of course sounds very refined. The best part is that the gearbox slots nicely and precisely with absolutely no vagueness.
Pickup is very neat and better than the multijet and power delivery is a lot more linear. The air conditioning is excellent, the NVH is excellent and the seats are good. The rear seat has terrific thigh support!!!!
The centrally mounted instruments are hardly a bother and are NOT a distraction.
The engine bay is spacious with lots of space around the engine for easy removal of parts (which I hope will not be frequent!!)
The boot seems small but is wider and a little deeper that the V2. It appears smaller because the parcel shelf is smaller than in the V2.
I think the Vista will be a big hit. Wonder if I will regret buying my multijet

looks good, priced well. I hope they worked out the refinement part. From what i see & read from the press release - they might have.

this looks like a very credible alternative too Swift Diesel. In fact on paper it looks like a much better alternative to Swift DDiS. All this is good for the customer. Its good for even Swift buyers as their waiting periods might come down too.

Good job TATA!

Looking for a TD from some members soon!
