So upgradation is a non-starter. Because while these obsolete refineries are dug up from ground, and rebuilt we will already be in 2030, in time for EV yuga.

I guess we may have a period when the only legal diesel in India may come from RIL, and the rest will just market. As it stands IOC is buying some fuel from RIL for the BS-IV cities.

The IITK report says, if needed import some or even all the fuel.

IMO, it will go up - as no election is there in the near future.

Jokes apart, during June till now, Brent prices went up from $50 to 52 and came down to 49. Rupee lost from Rs 66 to 67. So, in effect, there shouldn't be much changes in oil prices here.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Yesterday, I went to tank up my Lazarus after about 3 weeks. I noticed something interesting:

The Official Fuel Prices Thread-img_9375.jpg

This is an IOC (Indian Oil) station.

Petrol = 68.08 rupees per liter,
Diesel = 60.55 rupees per liter.

The difference? It has come down to a mere 7 rupees and 53 paise!

Better marginal fuel economy, better torque figures and diesel bans aside, does it still make sense to buy a diesel?

No wonder car companies are stuck with unsold diesel inventories, while petrol variants are commanding long waiting periods. Even for a newly-launched product such as the Tata Tiago, the demand is in a staggering 85:15 ratio for petrol models!

Considering that my Lazarus (Creta SX+ 1.6L VTVT) has returned an extremely frugal 11.3 kmpl for the last 300-odd kilometers, all inside the city during peak summer with the ACC on all the time, I am very happy and content about choosing (and sticking) to the petrol variant.

@RavenAvi; I think that only if you do over 30,000km a year Diesel may make sense. Even in the UK where Diesel is costlier than Patrol, Diesel cars do sell.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Looking at the trend for International crude oil price of Indian Basket available in PIB over the last 15 days, I feel there would be a further increase. The average pricing used during last fortnight was 3098 Rs/barrel where as in last 15 days, the average looks to be well over 3150 Rs/barrel.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

The trends show a drop in crude price to a little below end May. I hope the prices are not increased

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

So an increase it is!

Petrol up by 0.05 paise. While the petrol price hike is nominal, diesel price is now up by Rs. 1.26

Really it's tough to say what actually governs the prices of fuel in India.

Maybe there is a God in the IOC somewhere.

Now are we seeing definite trend to bring Diesel on par with Petrol? I wish it is.

Also, in GST matters states want petroleum out of GST forever(!). They want to continue taxing with impunity!!

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

What is the science behind these hikes ? Why is the current govt. not able to control fuel prices even though crude prices are very less compared to last govt. ? If they really want to do away with Personal Diesel cars, reduce Petrol prices instead of increasing diesel prices. Shouldn't we all protest in some way ?

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

No science - they increased excise dramatically and now there is no indication of it being reduced. Just sad!

0.05 paise! Jokes are already doing the rounds that this is the addition of 'Pradhan mantri Videshi yatra cess'.

Diesel getting targeted from both ends. Price hikes and NGT bans making sure there is no future for the oil burners in the country.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

The sad state of affairs!! Also there is no readdress mechanism. Increase tax when the crude goes down and forget about it, and the price goes up, blindly increase the cost. Even more shameful is the bunks declaring no-stock, including shell. Never expected shell to do this..
