True, the decade was changing our automobile industry and the Ambassador was also undergoing transplants of its engine and quite a few other mechanicals during the decade to keep up with the competition. New toolings, dies and jigs were installed in 1998-99 as the older ones were almost doddering since four decades. The bodyline of post 1999 Ambassadors had a more chich look hence.

A few advertisements here. The first one is though from the 1980's and had appeared in an issue of Readers Digest. The last one shows how this iconic car was advertised in the U.K. by M/s Fullbore Motors, where it sold in small numbers.

This is indeed the non-RTZ model which was launched initially, you can see the different logo on the side panel. One issue with this model was that despite being the longest 100cc, the seat was one of the smallest. Also, because of the unique flowing rear design, rear passengers found it hard to stay seated on inclines and during hard acceleration.

This issue and a few others were rectified in the RTZ model, which came with a longer seat with the RTZ logo, a redesigned rear panel, and a higher rear grab bar for support, and also different stickering and some new shades. I think that the fuel pre-filter bottle was also an addition. Later models also came with a resonator box.

Damn.... I too noticed after you mentioned.
I have read about Alto a lot on Wikipedia and other sources. As far as I know, there is no documentation about the works being sold in India.
I really wish they did. Could have swapped some parts on my 2 wheel drive alto :P

Must have been some PR stuff for Suzuki regarding its India commitment.

Except the Alturas and Grand Vitara, most of the others shown was either launched with a different name, or just the same name on a different body.

Found an old issue of ‘Business Today’ from Nov 1996 while clearing out my store room. The magazine had an Eicher ad and a Ford Escort ad. There were also a couple of other ads of tyres and engine oils:

From the Marathi newspaper Sakal, Pune edition of 17.05.1996. I chanced upon this advt in this old newspaper used as a packing material for something brought from Pune and kept intact till date.

Its Hamara Bajaj ! In 1989 this phrase coined by Alyque Padamsee of Lintas was everywhere in the media be it the print, audio or TV all through the 1990's :-
