The 74 cc 2 stroke engine and frame came straight from the m80. So the R&D cost was kept low put poor quality body panels, poor fit and finish and lack of buyers made this one tumble. ![]() The Bajaj Sunny was a runaway success in its hey days. It competed with the TVS Scooty. The Bajaj Spirit made the Sunny fade into oblivion Last edited by anjan_c2007 : 14th November 2012 at 17:25. |

The Montego priced at Rs 10 L bore the "SIPANI" tag and was ahead of its times perhaps. The Peugeot model and even Peugeot had to make an exit, rather the second one after the failed moped (Sportif) venture in 1984. ![]() ![]() |

![]() I am also not sure of the claim about this Quantum engine that fires to 100 kmph within 6 seconds. ![]() This car was also featured in Auto India, if I am not mistaken. I will try and check out some old issue of this magazine from the corresponding date to find out. Thanks for pointing it out. Last edited by anjan_c2007 : 18th November 2012 at 22:25.

Meanwhile, here is an advertisement of the then popular Hero Panther moped. This was perhaps the successor to Hero Majestic, their earliest foray into motorised two wheelers. And Hero Puch succeeded the Panther, though the two sold alongside for some time at the Hero Majestic showrooms. But wonder what has happened to Hero Majestic Ltd ? None of these mopeds are seen nowadays. ![]()

Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() The article from Indian Auto (1992) shows that Mahindra was really getting serious with the idea of selling hardtop UV's, aimed at creating a premium UV niche for itself, rather than solely depend on government orders, the rural sector and the taxi trade. ![]() ![]() (not exactly an advertisement, but it gives an insight into the thinking of the UV maker and ROPLAS during the early 1990's) Last edited by anjan_c2007 : 25th November 2012 at 21:00. |

Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() Again these are not advertisements but some information about the once much hyped Sipani D 1, from Indian Auto of August 1992, that ultimately proved to be a non-starter. The Montana was being sold alongside and could be seen on the roads in many cities at least. But many have never even seen the D 1 which bombed. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The above reactions from owners appear to be quite encouraging as the cars were quite new then. The magic soon faded.
