Sweden & some other Scandinavian countries are established testing hubs for most world-wide manufacturers looking to do extreme cold weather testing & the likes. It is also the most preferred destination for spy photographers around the world to take pictures of yet to be launched models after Death Valley, Arizona.

In all probability they moght have been taken there to test them in cold weather conditions by either one of the component supplies (for eg. ABS/ESP testing etc.) or by TATA themselves.

Ho can one conclude that its a Safari, if you closely notice, the wheels are 15" and the current Safari is on 16", there are no foglights integrated into the bumper and the body is monoque unlike the chassis on ladder frame in the current Safari. Looks Innova types.
If this is the new safari, then I am very very very dissappointed. The have enmasculated the safari :O !!!!!

It's a test mule. They don't come with full-spec interiors, or exteriors. Or for that matter, accessories. If you look closely, the dash resembles that of the present Safari.

if the testing started early as shown, it would take at least 2 years to arrive in showroom floors and given it's based on a new platform (X2), anytime before 2010 is unlikely.

Given tata's tradition of unveiling new cars at the auto expo, we might see this vehicle launched at the 2010 auto expo.

Anyways, if the confusion over my using the number 2010 is over, than its OK.
Otherwise, mods, change the title of this thread to : Spied: Tata's new SUV based on X2 platform in Sweden.

You mean body on frame like the current safari? How can you tell its a monocoque?

I looked at the pics but how does one know if it is a Safari or for that matter, any Tata vehicle. I am not able to spot any logos anywhere.

Well, I could see 'D' in the number plate, so it is a German registered one. And taking it further to Sweden, is it for the heavy snow testing bit?
uhh..and that is a RHD one.

Great

TSK is correct. This car is based on Xover concept (sorry if i have typed/named incorrectly).
Tata should go the Toyota way by having a people carrier and SUV on the same platform like toyota has in the form of Innova and Fortuner. This platform can, I think easily have more than one number of vehicle.

How about launching the people carrier as New 8/9 seater Estate.
This would give Innova sleepless nights.

This looks like a really correct step for Tata.

Click on that 'super' size option and find a better resolution pic. I could almost read BridgeStone on the rear tyre.....could very well be wrong as well.

Definitely Bridgestone 4X4 tyres and with the Safari's ORVMs. Very very similar to the Crossover. But more a MUV than a SUV methinks.

choose the "super" size option for the photo showing the prototype's front end, check the grille under the disguise thoroughly and we can make out the covered 'T' logo.
So its pretty sure that this is a Tata vehicle.
Now whether it is a safari replacement or X2 or Xover, only time will tell.
