They might be. We Indians are more of a "heard mentality" buyers. If neighbors and friends say Maruti, it will be Maruti and not Fiat!

However, looking at numbers, growth rate of Maruti is the lowest amongst the major car manufacturers (TATA, GM, Hyundai). This could well be because of a higher base effect, but it certainly means others are fast catching up - especially GM and Hyundai. IMO this is good for Indian car industry.

Monopoy is never good and I, for one, would be happy to see a day when the Indian car market is highly fragmented with Maruti, GM, Hyundai and TATA all around 15-25% give or take a few. This will keep all of them on their toes, and guess who is the winner!

Congrats to TATA for reaching their highest ever sales in passenger car segment. In about a years time, I think TATA is well on its way to average 40,000 units a month.

1) Indica - 10,000
2) Indigo - 10,000
3) NANO - 10,000 (or a lot more)
4) REST - 10,000

Good going TATA, keep it up!

And congratulations to Mahindra as well for achieving their highest sales for a month yet. It is unbelievable what mahindra has done in the UV sector - their sales of scorpio, zylo, bolero and pickups is 20,332.

Maruti Suzuki sales in December 2009

These maruti numbers also include exports. They sold 81,087 in Jan 2010. When we talk of Indian auto sales exports should not be included. Also, maruti's munbers will be impacted once honda and toyota launch small cars.

Mahindra doing very good.

Mahindra's performance is very good. They sold 20,332 utility vehicles in Jan. Considering that they operate in premium category, that number should is in deed incredible.

+1 to that. Bang on target. I see a bigger fight between Suzuki Tata Hyundai and GM in coming years. Good for we End Consumers.

GM achieved 139.0% growth in sales ! .and 10,000 booking for Beat in 24 days.....truly amazing.......

This is a case study for excellent:
1. Product positioning - high quality products targeted at middle class (Spark & Beat).
2. Pricing strategy - excellent value for money for each hard earned paisa
3. Promotions - very sensible promotions, especially the 3 year service warranty.

If GM is going to fine tune the fourth P in the marketing mix, ie "Place" (dealer and service network, especially in smaller cities), I am sure, they can double the figures in coming months....

2302 for Fiat is a good come back sort of things after the 1008 in December.

Punto and Linea should together atleast be at 3000 mark. FIAT should have an immediate target of getting to this number, but at the back end, just stock spares at every service center and give credit to the dealers. This is the cost that they should pay to ensure the history of poor availability of spares is slowly but surely erased.

OT: I have a pre NV edition Palio 1.2. Had the bumper and OVRM readily available at both Prerana and Concorde. Things are not that bad as projected.

FIAT be on your toes to succeed this time. Advertise the cars is another thing Fiat should work upon

Yes, I think Beat is well received in Indian market. i saw 4-5 beats lined up for delivery on last saturday. Spark may suffer a 20-25% drop due to Beat introduction.

Good to see that TATA sold 4K+ nanos, Do anyone have the sales figure of Manza?
