Ok, agree that the GTX and S10 Palio are not in production anymore but they were sporty. As a matter of fact the GTX was anyday better than the present 1.6 Stile.

I don't know how many have driven this but another sleeper car

Bolero VLX CRDe

Drive it to know what I'm saying.

Power packed performance that makes people drop their jaws

Baleno was definitely a very good and fast car, but then all Baleno's were fast. Baleno didn't have a special edition like say the Fiesta 1.6S which made only one variant faster/desirable than the rest of its ilk or the normal variety.

Since team-bhpians are the flag-bearers for Indian automobile enthusiasts, I think we should set some minimum standards so that manufacturers stop thinking that their average powertrains will be considered sporty by us. For example, the Baleno, Fiesta 1.6, Palio 1.6 are only considered sporty because the competition is so mediocre. In any other country, these cars would be considered ordinary and not worthy of a second comment.

I think its despicable that somebody might consider a car like the Swift as 'sporty', with its wheezing, generation-old 1.3L motor and a 0-100km/h time in excess of 12 seconds. If Suzuki had been generous enough to bring in the 1.6 Swift Sport than it would have deserved the 'sporty' tag. If we call the Indian Swift 'sporty', then we're just inviting the manufacturers to continue to give us underpowered cars for another 10 years.

May I suggest that no car may be considered 'sporty' or a 'sleeper' unless it can dispatch 100km/h in less than 10 seconds. Furthermore, cars that can accelerate but have serious difficulty negotiating corners (e.g. Getz CRDI) also don't deserve the 'sporty' tag.

The Chevy Cruze also doesn't have a special edition like the Fiesta S. IMO the Baleno and Cedia deserve to be here as well.

My choices are:

1. Chevrolet Cruze
2. Ford Fiesta 1.6S
3. Hyundai Verna CRDi (especially the discontinued ABS with all 4 disc brakes version, that I am currently relishing!)

For cars that are out of production:

1. OHC VTEC
2. Baleno
3. Accent Tornado GTX (this WAS some sleeper!)

+1

A de-badged Accord V6 should be in this list.

I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, we enthusiasts are a very small number and I doubt we even register in the companies' minds. Not only are there few choices for a fast, driver-focused affordable car, the mod scene is also pretty primitive, inconvenient and expensive

Guys, I know this completely depends on the definition of fast, but a 12 sec 0-100 car may be slightly faster than its competition, but it's not fast. It may even be a lot of fun, but not fast.
