Oh, Yes!
Throw me something like a Euro spec Golf Plus and am ready to take it at 10L. Much more practical than a sedan in India, in my opinion.

Re: Would you buy a hatchback for 10L?

Saw this thread late. My answer is YES. Give me a polo with the polo cup spec at 12L OTR. 1.4TSI, 184 HP, 6 Speed DSG, HID with projector (WRC headlamps). I would love it. Not that I mind the 2.0 litre 220 hp TSI motor. That may be like asking the moon. I know.

Re: Would you buy a hatchback for 10L?

Voted No, though only because there is no worthy Hatchback option @ 10 Lacs. The Jazz loaded with a 1.5 iVtec, Or maybe an iDtec oil burner, might come close to being an worthwhile option.

Re: Would you buy a hatchback for 10L?

I prefer hatchbacks as a rule of thumb. They are better balanced and ultimately handle better. The ultimate proof of this is the Subaru Impreza WRX Sti. They now maufacture it as a hatchback rather than a sedan and they say it is better at rallying now.

Re: Would you buy a hatchback for 10L?

I would definetely buy one if its worth the price. The car should offer very good features, good space and rear seat comfort, around 350L boot space, electric seats, climate control, sunroof, keyless entry and go, armrests for the front and rear seats, etc., etc.,. To put it shortly it should offer all that is offered in luxory sedans minus the boot. I would also love to have electric sunblind for the rear glass and manual ones for the rear door glasses. Well I dont mind paying even 11-12 lakhs for all that and I strongly believe that there exists a market for such hatchbacks.

Re: Would you buy a hatchback for 10L?

To me the hatch Vs sedan debate is meaningless. My status or the lack of it is not a function whether I drive a sedan or a hatch - I am aware that most Indians view a sedan is a move up vis-a-vis driving hatches. If the vehicle catches my fancy and the price is deserved then by all means yes a hatch even if it is a 10 Lac vehicle.

Re: Would you buy a hatchback for 10L?

A Chevy Cruze hatch with a sub 4 metre length and the rest being same would be the ideal choice and would do really well IMO since the Cruze is well established itself in the market and thus Chevy can afford to venture in this territory (though after the SR-V, I don't think Chevy would make such a mistake again.)

But there is one company who has the brand value, a large fan following and THE product - Swift Sport. I believe if Maruti can bring that car here in Euro spec at a 10L price point and skip a couple of features here and there to keep the price in check, I will queue up outside their showroom with a cheque ready and tongue outside my mouth.

Re: Would you buy a hatchback for 10L?

I would certainly buy a hatch for 10L. I would genuinely buy a Polo or a Golf TDi with DSG box. I am looking for one such car to gift my dad. Right now he is using a 2010 i10 Automatic. Polo with a 1.6 TDi from Vento with DSG would be the right pricing.

Re: Would you buy a hatchback for 10L?

Even though we bought one for upwards of 8 lakh very recently, i voted NO. Not against premium hatches, but somehow sedans appeal to the heart better

If Skoda brings down the Fabia VRs to India at ~ INR 10,00,000/-; DEFINITELY!

Re: Would you buy a hatchback for 10L?

Have no clue as to how I missed this thread, my response, WHY NOT ??

Here is a list of my preferred choices -

1) Chevy Cruze Hatchback - This is available in Europe.
2) Fabia - With the TSi heart (160 BHP, 250 Nm), the vRS under 10L is practically not feasible for the Czechs.
3) Suzuki Swift Sport - 1.6L, 135 BHP.
4) The A1 and the 1 Series - It'll not be under 10L but close to a 15L OTR is totally acceptable.
5) VW Golf.

Basically, my perception is buy a car for it's performance, if you need SPACE look elsewhere.
