moneycontrol.com reports that this car may be priced at Rs. 4 Lac. That is a very good price point!

Production of the first low-cost car Micra at the Renault-Nissan plant is likely to begin from May 2010, he said. Micra will be priced at Rs 4 lakh. Renault-Nissan alliance will start selling Micra hatchbacks from July and aims sales of 80,000 units in the financial year ending March 2011, an official said. According to plans, Micra will be exported to Europe, Africa, Middle East from Chennai. In India, the company aims to to achieve 1 lakh units sales by 2012. Nissan is looking at manufacturing a second low cost car between Rs 2 and 4 lakh. Speaking at a conference in Chennai, Ghosn said the company wants to develop another small car in India for which it does not rule out partnering with Bajaj Auto. Ghosn clarified that Renault's major thrust will remain in the base affordable car segment.

Is there any news about Nissan's dealership expansion? The current status is 10 dealerships and that wont help Nissan in achieving target's in INDIA!

AFAIK, a new Nissan dealership in coming up a km or so away from ours. This group already has a Nissan & VW dealership in Cochin. Calicut is not a big city, but if they're building a new 3s here before they roll out the Micra, I guess they must be pretty serious on increasing their dealer network.

Spotted Nissan Micra

I spotted this car with black tapes over the the manufacturer logo, on the Greenways road in Chennai. Looks like the Micra is undergoing road tests!

This is my first image post after a long time. I made a mess of attaching it and also including it in the content, and then managed to set it right by editing it again. I should have masked the number plates with the temporary registration. I will be careful next time.

Going by reports from various magazines and forums,IMO we can assume that:
1.The Micra hatch would be launched with 1.2l, 3 cylinder petrol, and a diesel.
2.A sedan and a MPV based on the same platform may be introduced shortly.
3.The Micra hatch won't get the auto transmission , at least initially. However, it would get the start stop system along with keyless entry on the higher variants.
4.Bluetooth car audio and steering mounted audio controls might be incorporated at a later stage.

Here's a link to the specs of the Australian Micra. They get a 1.4 liter engine (we'll get 1.2 liters) and lots of frills, but we can assume some of the features, listed here, to be in the Indian version as well - at least the dimensions should be close to the same.

Read up somewhere else that the bootspace is 251 liters - better than the Marutis and Hyundais, but smaller than the Polo, Punto and Figo.
