The message here is that Ford is reaching out and clearly listening to the Indian consumer

Perception - expensive parts = response child assembly units, locaclised manufacture
Perception - higher than average fuel consumption = response - diesel car for not much more

Fantastic Thread!

Thanks Ford and GTO!

It was like watching a trailer for Megafactories in Nat Geo.

I hope this event sets off opening of many a gates for Team-BHP. Just Awesome!

Hi chennai-indian, can you please give us more info (the system logic at a very high level) on how the system actually works?

Enlightening

Excellent process review

Though, I never went into the Ford plant, I worked very close around 5-6 years back on a project for Ford on launching the Focus in India. So, did extensive R&D at the time and had to co-ordinate with different people there.

By, the way, did you manage to get pics of how the metal is shaped after getting cut, to form the wedges, bends etc. How is it molded / welded?

This is amazing GTO. I had all the wrong ideas about Ford's Chennai facility. You changed my mind somewhat.

I recently posted a new thread, just before reading this one. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...usion-way.html. It was about how my buying experience with Ford has been.

The confusion still lurks in my mind. I saw pictures of you having a blast in an Aquarius Blue Ford Fiesta 1.6S. I had booked the same car on 13th May and later told that the color has been discontinued. Is that true? Can you please tell me when did you visit the Chennai plant and when were these pictures taken? Thanks in advance.

Im yet to take the delivery of my Fiesta 1.6S and the reason is mentioned in the thread whose link is given above.

Nice one Ford and GTO. Liked the bit of the spare parts sold in pieces. It makes so much sense.

Brilliant, GTO.

I have to confess I have skipped 100-plus comments, so this might have been said...

Wouldn't it be great if this was number one of a series! Manufacturers take note!

Beautiful write-up. I'm sure it must have been a heck of a time there!
I've seen the Tata Motors Pune plant just as closely and i believe that was no less! Just as impressive. Automated machines (robots) doing the big work while humans doing the inspection and smaller work. Saw the Indica and Xenon assembly lines from sheets of steel to a full car. Very nice.
But ofcourse, no cameras allowed!
Thanks for sharing.

Hi GTO

Looks like you came to Chennai on 19/20th of may

I too have gone thru that ford gate lot of times but had a chance to see the production line only once

Good write up and i wonder how ford allowed you to take pics.(must be a branding exercise)

Awesome Pics GTO !!

I recently had the opportunity to visit Tata Motors plant at Lucknow and Pantnagar, they too have put up a rather impressive assembly line. Another important thing to note is that these Corporate giants are now spending quite a few bucks in maintaining greenery in their plants.
