The disaster recipe for Hyundai Motor India is now confirmed for launch on June 25 it seems. How on earth can this be called a "FaceLift"? Isn't this a step in the backward direction for the Verna? The current model, though not eye catching, never offended anyone's tastes and came across as a decent looking one. This just spoils the brand totally.

IMO, after the ill-fated facelift of the original Zen by Maruti (pre Estilo version), we are going to watch the second episode of "Disastrous Facelifts" in Indian automotive market.

I accept the design is not that acceptable,
But I do not understand the reason for emotions flying high.Come on, the car doesnt look that bad after all.
Probably it will start growing into our minds like most Maruti design does. I mean given the facts I would go for this one had I planned to buy a Verna earlier, dont think the design is going to stop anyone.

@ xingamazon - I have seen this car in person and I will vouch that it looks a lot better in real life than these photos shown here. But the only thing I can't digest is the fact this will be called a "FaceLift" of the current model. IMO, the current model's front end is so good compared to this.

WE at TEAM-BHP dont mind the exteriors as much as what is under the skin right?
so what we want is raw power! and the verna has it all!

Well what you are saying is right but that doesent mean they dump this thing they are calling a facelift. The car looks disappointing compared to the current version IMHO. The car might be good under the hood but why not make it more appealing. We all agree that Dzire sells and so does the current verna if you get what I mean but nonetheless cmon Hyundai, atleast make this model look like a gradual step up towards the all new model whic looks better than the current version.

The design philosophy at Hyundai seems to be more local than global. A company that is vying to be a global player needs better styled products. Hyundais were never good lookers (in my humble opinion; looks are subjective), but reasonably good performers. If they were good lookers too, the storey would have been different. Good looking and good performing cars may also perish (Italian designed Daewoos for example). I have a feeling that styling (especially exterior) is not their strength and they should get that done by some renowned italian design houses such as that of Giugiaro!

IMHO a car is not just about raw power - its much more than that. I can agree exteriors are not the top of the list but there are far more important criterion like ride, comfort, handling, safety in addition to raw power. This is the combination any good driver would think about. Verna as we well know lacks in some of these departments.

But understand the vast majority of the public don't care about power or better dont know how to use it rightly. I agree with many people's though here, what looked bad has been made into worse in the new design. With the relatively powerfull + German engineering + better looking Vento on the cards, i dont understand what the honchos @ Hyundai India are thinking. The only thing superior they have is a vast service network (if not quality ones). If i had a chance I would fire all exec's who decide to bring this ugly duckling on to our roads. They would rather buy some time with the existing Verna and bring its better looking brother (read the new Verna) to our shores.

I just threw up a little in my mouth! That's just plain horrid. It looks like a mod-job by a local, aspiring automobile designer who got a little over enthusiastic with his pencil after smoking something that's frowned upon by the general public.

EDIT: P.S. This is the first time that I'm not enthusiastic about the phrase 'sooner than expected'!

Again, I might be wrong but dont think we should judge this so soon just looking at few shots. Things might look different in person.
All I feel is Hyundai is one company which has off late (note I said Offlate) read indian market well. Dont think they would settle for a bad piece of work that easily.
Just my 2 Cents I might be wrong.

Last night we went on a midnight drive to Delhi using MG Road in Verna CRDi SX ABS. The Engine is wonderful with sudden bursts of torque kicking in at 2000rpm and the engine is quite free revving for a diesel with good top end but the terrible suspension tuning offers neither Handling nor Ride, The ride is so uncomfortably bouncy that you can't exceed 90kph on roads where Elantra can comfortably do 130kph.

What a shame, The Engine begs to be pushed but the ride gets worse with speed. You wouldn't desire a soft bouncy setup when attacking a corner.

The Brakes with all four discs are brilliant, though a bit over servo'd. The steering too is overservo'd but the saving grace is it does not feel entirely disconnected and is pretty quick too.

@ AyAn - Nice PS work there. Makes it look sporty with those smoked headlights and wiremesh grille.

As someone in this thread pointed out earlier, if those two ugly vertical slats in the grille can be removed, it will look much better.

Hyundai Verna - FACE LIFT GIMMICK

Well People its a sad news that Hyundai is proudly launching their ugliest face lift of Verna. I understand if they could have even done some modification in the interiors too but no the interior and features will be the same as old Good Looking Verna. There may be a few small addition of Reverse Sensors and Instrument Panel modification and yes the so called Hyundai Ipod Connectivity which even the hyundai sales staff has not understood.

The Great Hyundai Verna FACE LIFT OFFER - ****FIFA OFFER****
No Airbags
Ugly looking Exterior
Old Interior
Reverse Sensors
Hyundai Ipod Connectivity
Sunroof ** may be optional with whooping price of 50k+
No Leather Seats

and yes with an marginal price increase.

I just pray to god that what ever offer i typed should not be true....... Let Good Sense and Good Design Ideas Prevail in Hyundai India

The ugliest Hyundai ever!! After seeing i10 and i20 and some models in Auto Expo, I thought Hyundai is really progessing fast in designing their cars to international level. But with this Verna, Hyundai is going to harm its image. Come on Hyundai, hire some good designers.
