If A-Star, Wagon-R,Estilo can co exist, why not the Safari. After all the Merlin will be atleast a lakh more expensive. You do not get a new gearbox and a dual mass flywheel for peanuts, do you?

Parm, I understand that you may not be in a position to spill the date, but I just have one question- will it be launched before 30th Set. I have to buy a new car by mid oct, and as of now the Merlin tops a very very short list. If you cant answer this on teh forum, request you to please PM me. your reply will be held in confidence for sure.....

Thanks for the heads-up!

Just confirming: Merlin is actually going to be the final product's name?

The comparison is not right. According to Maruti, the new Swift is a brand new platform, and only thing common between the old and the new model is the engine, every other part is different.
But in case of Safari, most of the parts and engine are the same, just a facelift to the front, back and interior. I agree to your point, it is foolish for TM to sell more or less the same car at 2 different price points. But who knows?

you cant sell two different products by similar names....

....similarly you cant sell Safari Dicor and Safari Merlin side by side...

it will be Safari and Merlin (two different names for two different vehicles)

The reference to Maruti models was to the rest of the line-up. They are pretty much the same underneat the skin. Do Check the specs & see. So pls dont see it only as old swift to new swift. Even then, how different is the old one from teh new ? And knowing Maruti, we will soon see a new Ritz too

All NEW SWIFT is by Suzuki world wide, nothing to do with Maruti!

the new swift replaces the old swift. world wide its 1.4 ltr engine and in india suzuki/maruti kept the old 1.2 ltr engine to get the tax rebate from the govt.

Suzuki, kept the old shape and streched it, made it wider and roomier and that too on a all new platform..

come Condor, you know it all.

coming back to the Merlin, how do you feel it would be different from the Safari?

@Parm, I have not denied that the new Swift is quite new. But it looked like @teamveevee picked out only the Swift when he said the comparison is not right. The original comment by @Julupani included more cars than the swift.

And, to set the record straight - I even acknowledged the Swift is new when I said:

re: Tata Merlin - Safari replacement? *UPDATE* Uncovered Pics on Pg 90

Apart from some of the already mentioned additions/differences in Merlin compared to current Safari, I hope the Merlin has a tighter turning radius too.

I have lost count of family/friends/acquaintances chucking the Safari or preferring competition to it for this reason.

re: Tata Merlin - Safari replacement? *UPDATE* Uncovered Pics on Pg 90

I don't understand TML stand here about the launch date. There should be some information intentionally leaked about the launch date. That way people who are in market for such a vehicle will atleast wait for some time for the launch and not go for the competetion. anyways its not going to impact the sales of existing Safari model as it is almost confirmed that both models will be sold side by side.
