Re: 2012 BMW 1 Series revealed!

Dont know about the exteriors, but look at that interior.

Compact, driver focussed, small light steering and knowing BMW brilliant steering feedback. Those quintessential 2 large BMW dials,a small instrument console, and a 6-speed!Yum Yum!

Re: 2012 BMW 1 Series revealed!

I think it's the eyes. They've lost the aggressiveness that is on the current gen 1 Series. These new ones look a little droopy and sleepy to me. Also the tail lights resembles a VW Polo?!

The interiors are classy though. Very Germanish. I like.

Re: 2012 BMW 1 Series revealed!

Actually the car looks kinda decent. The front looks like a mini-Z4 and the rear looks like a Volkswagen hatch.
But then it all depends on personal opinions and I like this car.

Re: 2012 BMW 1 Series revealed!

I'm clueless.

One side of me talks about how brilliant this car is in many ways, and the other side talks about how idiotic this car looks head on. It almost looks like the custom-jobbed X1 lowered down to its haunches.

No doubt, this car would be an absolute hoot to drive, but it looks hideous. The side-profile is fine and the rear has all the makings of a hot hatch, but by God what have they done to the front-end? What were the designers back at BMW's HQ smoking when they thought the X1's front-end would work on a hatch?

That front end looks quite disproportionate. It would probably look better on a larger Bimmer. NOT on a little hatch.

Re: 2012 BMW 1 Series revealed!

Gawd, that mature front end & XL size headlamps don't suit the small 1 series at all. Question : Is the new 1 series going to be FWD exclusively? Isn't the next gen based on the Mini?

It's all about the brand, buddy! I can think of several urban types, fairer sex included, who would pick a 15 lakh BMW over a Civic or a Laura any which day.

Agreed on the fun part, but not on the reliability. BMW's automatics are usually very robust. It's the electronics that leads to problems & breakdowns.

Said it like it is! No automatic has, or will come close to, a short-shifting, slick 6 speed manual.

This 2012 1 series is RWD. BMW is launching another FWD car positioned below the 1 series, pictured below. Pic courtesy WCF.

Re: 2012 BMW 1 Series revealed!

I have mixed opinions, mostly positive besides perhaps the proportion of those headlights upfront? But that might change once I see it in person, a lot of new BMW's have not impressed me in pictures as much as in real life,

Quality of interior looks superb, in fact I see a lot of parts from the 5/7 which in a way is great thing for this segment but a huge let down for 5/7 owners who see similar stuff in a car costing so much less, but not that I am complaining.

Loving the interior, and the engine specs for the 2.0 (Diesel & Petrol) look wonderful, the car will be launched here sometime in 2013 depending on the market feedback, expect it to be priced at about 16 Ex-Showroom, engines will mostly be the 16/18 designation and lets keep fingers crossed and hope for a good package for India and trust me this will sell and again be a game changed just like the 3 Corporate Ed. was.

Regards,

Re: 2012 BMW 1 Series revealed!

Yes, something does not look right at the front end. My first thought was that her lips seem to be pursed, somehow! There is a resemblance to the Polo at the rear.

Me! Me! Me! (although I don't have the money) - anyway priced lower than the 3-series means it automatically becomes a bit more within reach. So I don't have to rob the bank to get a BMW!!

The current 1-series is quite close to the 3 in pricing (or even the X1 sDrive range). If launched in India, it may be something around 20lakhs to start with.

Maybe a possibilty, atleast according to this article in Autocar UK. And yes, it is based on the Mini hardware. And they say that even a 3-pot engine is an option. Downsizing to the core!

And yes, the headlamps and the overall front end does not look proportionate at all.

Re: 2012 BMW 1 Series revealed!

The grown-up front end and the cab backward design would suit the 1-series if a sedan version were to be introduced. Can the photoshop experts give it a go?

Re: 2012 BMW 1 Series revealed!

Have they gone mad? The front looks like it just sneezed, and the rear is very Polo. That said, I actually love the interior. 180d is it? Three-cylinder engine?

Re: 2012 BMW 1 Series revealed!

The new baby Bimmer is being launched exclusively with four-cylinder engines, and while more variants are expected to follow, for now it's just the five-door hatch. A pair of 1.6-liter gasoline engines pack direct injection and offer 136 horsepower in 116i trim and 170 in the 118i. Three 2.0-liter turbo-diesels are also being offered overseas, ranging from 116 horsepower up to 184 in the flagship 120d. A 1.5-liter three-pot is expected to come in gasoline and diesel variants, while the top 128iS is slated to get a 245hp turbo 2.0-liter gasoline four to take the place of the current six-cylinder 130i.

How much ever hideopus it looks but that 184bhp 2.0 turbo-diesel will be a hoot to drive! Some more official studio pictures...

Re: 2012 BMW 1 Series revealed!

BMW UK website have the details of the new 2011 1-series. Its scheduled for Sep 2011 launch in the UK.

Here is the link: BMW UK | New BMW 1 Series Sports Hatch

So finally, the 1.6 from the Mini line-up gets into a mainstream bimmer. Maybe these are signs of what can be expected in the new 3 series

Re: 2012 BMW 1 Series revealed!

It looks good from certain angles. I think the front end is a bit elongated for a hatch but doesn't make it look bad. For me, its the Polo'ish rear which is making it look bad. Interiors. wow!

Re: 2012 BMW 1 Series revealed!

I wish they kept the traditional BMW headlamps; that is one design I could drool over for hours! With the current setup, the front looks a bit cramped, doesn't it? But of course, change is good!

The side profile looks as if the front has been pulled out hard. Frankly, there doesn't seem to much congruity between the front and the hatch.

But MAN! the interiors make up for it completely.

The interiors are a very strong point. Love the simple BMW characteristic layout.
Yes if priced well would love to have one.
Roger that!
Btw, which car are you referring to?
