Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Honda has added another 57000 more Fit hatchback cars to update software for the stability control. More details:

Quote:
In April, Honda recalled the 2012-2013 Fit Sport in the United States & Canada, due to a fault with stability control system that allowed the car to skid at a greater angle than allowed by federal requirements. At that time, Honda said just 45,782 Sport models were affected due to that trim level's larger wheels and tires. But, now the automaker is recalling the base models to fix the same problem. A total of 91,920 models are affected in the United States, with the rest in Canada.

In addition to the above 1,695 2013 Accord models are being recalled in the United States & Canada for fuel tanks that can leak, as the connection at the top of the tank may not be sealed properly.

Suzuki recalls Hayabusa Machines in Canada.

The Canadian transport safety agency has issued a recall for several Suzuki GSX1300R bikes. 59 such vehicles may have problems with their Anti-Lock Brake System or ABS.

According to Healthy Canadians, 59 Hayabusa are recalled to date. The ABS modulator may have been manufactured incorrectly and could fail and cause the loss of ABS function on the specified motorcycles.

This could, in turn lead to the front and/or rear wheels to lock under strong braking and in conjunction with other factors, such as traffic or road conditions and rider reactions, increasing the risk of a crash resulting in personal injury and/or property damage.

First Recall for the Yamaha/Star Bolt! 3900 are likely to be affected.

he NHTSA report claims the bikes' engine may stall due to a wiring error: certain wires may have a slack or sag and the wiring harness may touch the exhaust manifold. The heat would cause the cables to melt and possibly short circuit.

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Mitsubishi is recalling 2013 Outlander Sport for suspension issue.

SUMMARY:
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain model year 2013 Outlander Sport vehicles manufactured January 17, 2013, through January 25, 2013. The stabilizer link on the front strut was improperly welded. As a result, the link may detach and cause damage to the tire and/or brake hose.

CONSEQUENCE:
If the stabilizer link bracket damages the tire and/or brake line, the driver may have more difficulty controlling the steering of the vehicle, or the vehicle may require a longer stopping distance to come to a complete and controlled stop. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.

Kawasaki Ninja 300 recalled due to ABS Malfunctioning

Motoriods have reported that 1083 units of Kawasaki Ninja 300 are recalled due to ABS Malfunctions, caused by a manufacturing error in Ninja 300 motorcycles produced between 16 Aug 12 & 02 Apr 13. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) on some of these motorcycles could partially or completely lose its functionality, which could lead to wheel lock up & skidding, thereby increasing the chances of a crash.

Re: Kawasaki Ninja 300 recalled due to ABS Malfunctioning

That is a real scary thought. After riding a bike with ABS, over time you lose your inherent foot modulation on the brakes. I can imagine what happens when and if the ABS fails in such a case.

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

1. GM is recalling 843 Silverado & Sierra pickups in US for passenger airbags that may not fully inflate in a crash.
The cause of the same is reported to be an inflator module, which may have weak welds & can break when the airbag deploys. This could allow the airbag gas to escape rather than fill the bag itself.

2. In addition to the above, Honda is recalling 652 trailer hitch kits in US, of which that about 340 may already be installed on 2014 Acura MDX models.
According to Honda, the accessory trailer hitch has a faulty wiring harness, which may not provide a connected, braked trailer with stopping power.

Nissan recalls Versa Note hatchbacks to fix bolts.

Nissan is recalling nearly 13,000 Versa Note subcompact hatchbacks because of problems with bolts in the back of the vehicle.
The company says the recall affects cars from the 2014 model year that were built in Mexico before July 5 and distributed mainly in North America. Nissan says bolts holding the rear seat back latches may not be strong enough. This could increase the injury risk for back-seat passengers in a crash.

Ford pays $17.35 million fine over Escape recall.

Ford Motor Co. reached a settlement with U.S. auto safety regulators in June over a recall of older Escapes last year and paid the maximum $17.35 million fine to resolve claims that the automaker took too long to notify its customers of a defect.

Ford's penalty, which was paid on July 26, ties the largest single fine ever paid under U.S. auto safety law.

Another big recall from Honda in US

Honda is recalling 204,196 2012-2013 CR-V and Odyssey, and the 2013 Acura RDX to fix brake-shift interlocks that could fail, & cause the shifter to be moved without depressing the brake. This is because of interlock system parts that can contract in "subfreezing temperatures" & "become slow to return to its proper position" & could lead to "unintended acceleration".

__________________________________________________ _______________

Nissan is recalling around 125K 2013 Altimas for overinflated spare tires & could be permanently damaged.

The cause of the same has been identified as a spare tire inflator with a faulty pressure regulator and pressure gauge that may have compromised the construction of the tires during a full year of production in Canton, Miss.

Quote:
Tires that were overinflated "lost structural integrity" when exposed to the higher heat in the trunk and then rapidly deflated, Nissan said. Some tires may also have been underinflated at the plant. Vehicles built after March 26 are not affected since the inflator machine was fixed.

__________________________________________________ _______________

Mercedes is recalling 499 2013 E-Class coupes (built between April 2 and June 29) for side curtain airbags that may deflate too quickly, due to some 2012 models having faulty stitching in its seam, causing the passenger side curtain airbag to open during the bag's high-pressure inflation when under high ambient temperatures. This may not provide enough head protection.

Maserati is also recalling 485 cars over its entire lineup to replace a tire-pressure monitoring system that can malfunction & fail to inform the driver of a leaking tire.
