re: GM halts production of Cruze 1.4 Turbo Petrol variants

Surpizing why GM does not share the reason. RTI law is much more stronger in USA than here.

IF they halt Cruze deliveries from today, in view of some risk they have seen, what happens if that risk happens in someone;s cruze which was delivered yesterday .

I guess they should issue a statement that all Cruze models from mmyyyy please visit the workshop to replace abc component, which is prone to failure.

re: GM halts production of Cruze 1.4 Turbo Petrol variants

I guess India is not affected as the article mentions about the 1.4 turbo-charged petrol only. But until we know the full story, we can never be sure.

I've not heard any major complaints from any Cruze onwer on this forum other than premature brake pad wear.

The production is not stopped. It's a stop sale - that means some specific cars will not be sold.

Looks like GM read this Their press release today states so.

GM is recalling some 2013 and 2014 Cruzes with 1.4-liter turbo gasoline engines to replace a right front axle half shaft that can fracture and separate without warning during normal driving, the company said.

The stop-sale order that was issued without explanation can now resume sales after they inspect the half shaft and fix any needed repairs.

The recalls cover 27 Toyota models -- including Camry, Corolla, Matrix and Highlander -- the Pontiac Vibe and the Subaru Trezia. Some of the vehicles were made as early as 2004!

Toyota plans to inspect and, if necessary, replace parts including seat rails, steering column brackets, engine starters, windshield wiper motors and air bag cables, the company said in a statement

Now this is an interesting statement-""Toyota is not aware of any crashes, injuries or fatalities caused by these conditions," the company said. "

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

A rather funny news circulating in the international automotive media:

Mazda is recalling the 42,000 Mazda6 sedans as the Mazda engineers discovered that a special type of spiders are attracted to the smell of gasoline and is weaving web in the engine bay, causing restricted fuel flow.

Following is a transcript from the reuters website.

Quote:
The web weaved by a spider can lead to a restriction of fuel flow, which in turn can reduce fuel tank pressure when the emission control system purges vapors from the evaporative canister. This can put stress on the fuel tank, which may crack and leak fuel, increasing the risk of a fire, a report filed with NHTSA says.

Mazda said it is not aware of any fires because of this risk.

There is nothing funny with a recall I assure you. This is the 2nd time mazda is issuing a recall for the same spider web issue. IIRC, they had issued the first one circa 2011.

Its not the recall, but the reason for recall seemed queer to me.

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Transportation Secretary/ Department of the US has proposed that would raise the maximum fine for not recalling a vehicle in a timely manner nearly tenfold from $35 to $300. It believes the current top fine isn't enough of a deterrent for automakers to not obey the rule requiring companies to issue a recall within five days of determining the vehicles pose a safety risk to drivers.
