Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Hyundai recalling 4,70,000 Sonatas in the USA from MY 2011 & 2012 to replace their 2.0L/2.4L gasoline engines, to prevent them from failing due to a manufacturing defect.

They have also issued a recall for around 1,00,000 Accents manufactured between 2009-2011 due to defective brake lights.

Quote:
The recall covers 470,000 Sonata sedans from the 2011 and 2012 model years equipped with 2-liter or 2.4-liter gasoline engines. At the time, the Sonata was Hyundai's top-selling vehicle in the U.S.

The company also is recalling nearly 100,000 Accent small cars because the brake lights can fail.

In documents on the Sonata recall posted Friday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Hyundai says that metal debris may not have been fully removed from the crankshaft area during manufacturing at Hyundai's Alabama engine plant.

That can restrict oil flow to the connecting rod bearings, and since they are cooled by oil, they could fail. If that happens, the engines could stall and cause a crash.

Dealers will inspect the cars and replace engines at no cost to owners, a company spokesman said. The company also will increase the engine warranty for 10 years or 120,000 miles.

Tesla recalls 90,000 Model S sedans over seatbelt concerns

Tesla has issued a recall of 90,000 Model S sedans over a suspected issue with the seatbelt. The issue came to light earlier in November, after one report was sent to the company of a front seatbelt assembly breaking when a customer turned around to talk to a passenger in the rear seat.

Tesla has emailed customers, requesting them to bring their cars to any of the company's 125 service centres for an inspection of a bolt that attaches the seat belt mechanism to the body of the car. Tesla may send service technicians to the customers if required. Most of the vehicles affected are in the USA with a few others in Asia and Europe. There haven't been any reports of accidents or injuries due to the suspected issue.

Given the fact that seatbelts are a preliminary safety feature, it's no wonder that Tesla swung into action after just one incident was reported.

Ford recalls 313,000 vehicles for dangerous electrical issue

Ford Motor Co said on Tuesday it will recall 313,000 older cars for headlight failures linked to 11 crashes, as well as 4,700 vans, pickups and mid-sized trucks for assorted issues.

The automaker said it is recalling 2003-2005 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles to replace the lighting control module. The module's solder joints could crack and interrupt power to the headlights – increasing the risk of crash at night.

Mazda adds to airbag recalls
Mazda Motor Corp on Friday said it had recalled a total of around 1.9 million vehicles in Japan and abroad over airbags manufactured by Takata Corp, expanding a global recall of potentially faulty airbag inflators.

The Japanese automaker said it has recalled 1.5 million vehicles including its Atenza or Mazda 6 sedan, which were manufactured in China and at other overseas plants and sold in Europe, China, Australia and other Asian countries.

Mazda is also recalling 2,00,000 vehicles in Japan, including the Bongo van, Atenza, Titan commercial truck and the Nissan Vanette and Mitsubishi Delica multi-purpose vehicle, which Mazda produced under contract.

An additional 1,76,000 vehicles produced in Japan for exports were also being recalled, the company said. All vehicles affected were made between 2006 and 2014.

Separately, Mitsubishi Motors on Friday said it had recalled a total of around 1,50,000 Delicas and its Pajero SUV model.

Widening recall

The latest announcements are part of a widening recall which has seen roughly 500 million vehicles affected by Takata’s airbag inflators, which can explode with excessive force, causing metal shrapnel to spray within vehicle compartments.

So far, these inflators have been linked to at least 10 deaths, mainly in the United States, and around 100 injuries. — Reuters

All vehicles being recalled were made between 2006 and 2014.

Volvo Cars recalls 59,000 cars over software fault
STOCKHOLM: Geely-owned carmaker Volvo Car Group said on Saturday it was recalling 59,000 cars after some owners experienced their engines stopping and restarting while they were driving.

"We have no information that this has led to any accidents," Volvo Car Group spokesman Stefan Elfstrom said.

Elfstrom said owners of 2016 model 60 and 70 series cars were being told to take their vehicles to dealers to get the software fault corrected.

Around 24,000 of the cars were sold in Sweden.

The Gothenburg-based company was bought by China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. from Ford Motor Co. in 2010.

Maserati to recall over 20k vehicles in China over design defect

Quote:
Italian luxury car maker Maserati will recall 20,842 vehicles in China over a defect in design, authorities here said.

The affected vehicles include imported Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibli models manufactured between March 22, 2013 and December 3, 2015.

A defective design of the floor mat and accelerator pedal may result in the pedal getting stuck in the working position, increasing risk of collision, the watchdog said.

Maserati offered to replace the mat and pedal for free, starting from March 28, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Honda Recalls Fit and Vezel in Japan After Six Fire and Two Collision Reports

This is the sixth round of major recalls involving the Fit hatchback in the last three years.

Quote:
The first of the two recalls affects 164,388 cars, namely Fit hatchbacks assembled from August 2, 2013, through August 17, 2015 and Vezel crossovers assembled from December 10, 2013, through February 13, 2016. These vehicles are being recalled because they’re into spontaneous combustion. Six fires have been reported up to now, all of them caused by a flaw in the start & stop system. Put simply, the system can overload with electricity, leading to heat build-up or a short circuit and, eventually, a full-on vehicle fire.
Quote:
The second recall affects 118,715 units of the Fit. The vehicles have been made from August 2, 2013, through August 31, 2015, and the fault lies within the electric power steering (EPS) control module. In certain situations, the EPS can act funny and cease to assist the driver. Furthermore, the EPS warning light on the dashboard won’t light up to inform the driver that there’s something wrong with the steering. Honda has been prompted to recall these vehicles after the manufacturer had caught wind of two collision reports.

GM recalling over 1 million trucks globally due to seat belt issue.
Silverado is one of the largest selling vehicles in US.

Source : http://www.worldcarfans.com/11604161...lobally-due-to

Article :
Quote:
General Motors says there’s a big problem with the seat belts on its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, and it’s causing a massive recall of these trucks around the globe. Over one million vehicles are affected, with 895,232 in the United States and 142,750 spread across Canada, Mexico, and some additional parts of Latin America and the Middle East.
According to the company’s official statement, “the flexible steel cable that connects the seat belt to the vehicle can fatigue and separate over time as a result of the driver repeatedly bending the cable when entering the seat.” In other words, the belts can simply break off. Luckily, GM discovered this problem through warranty data – no crashes, injuries, or fatalities have been reported because of this issue.
While most of the trucks are already in the hands of customers, roughly 3,000 examples are still sitting on dealer lots. A stop-sale has been issued for these vehicles; dealers will repair them before delivering the trucks to buyers.
To fix the problem, GM says its dealers “will enlarge the side shield opening, install a pusher bracket on the tensioner, and if necessary, replace the tensioner assembly.”

FCA recalls 1.1 million vehicles for confusing shift levers.

Source : http://www.worldcarfans.com/11604241...g-shift-levers

Article :

Quote:
Many drivers of mid-size SUVs and full-size cars from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles are exiting their vehicles without first selecting the Park position of the gearbox and the manufacturer will try to eliminate the confusion by voluntarily recalling around 1.1 million vehicles worldwide.

.. The automaker is issuing a recall to reduce the effect of potential driver error by enhancing warnings and transmission shift strategy.

The enhancements will combine warnings with a transmission-shift strategy to automatically prevent a vehicle from moving, under certain circumstances, even if the driver fails to select Park. The problem shifter controls a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic gearbox.

FCA says affected by the recall are certain model year 2012-2014 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 sedans, and model-year 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs. The Charger and 300 already moved to another shifter in model year 2015, while the Grand Cherokee’s shift-lever was updated in model-year 2016.

Ford recalls vehicles over suspension, transmission flaws

Ford Motor said on Wednesday (27th April 2016) that it would recall about 81,000 sport-utility vehicles to fix a suspension defect and another 201,900 pickup trucks, SUVs and cars to repair a transmission flaw.

The suspension defect, which affects certain 2014-15 Ford Explorer and Ford Police Interceptor SUVs, has been connected to at least one crash and injury. The vehicles' rear suspension toe links were poorly welded and could fracture, resulting in loss of steering.

The transmission flaw involves a speed sensor that can cause the system to downshift into first gear at the wrong time. At least three crashes and no injuries have been linked to the defect, which affects 6R80 transmission models on certain versions of the 2011-12 Ford F-150, the 2012 Ford Expedition, Ford Mustangs built in Michigan from Aug. 19, 2011, through Feb. 21, 2012, and 2012 Lincoln Navigators built in Kentucky from Aug. 19, 2011, through Dec. 17, 2011.

Ford will compensate dealers to deliver free repairs to vehicle owners.

The company also issued three minor recalls Wednesday:

• 2,600 units of the 2016 Ford F-Series Super Duty to check whether tires incurred damage from a conveyor during manufacturing.

• 199 units of the 2007 through 2012 Ford Flex, Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Mercury Sable vehicles to fix driver-side air bag modules.

• 40 units of the 2016 Ford Fusion to replace driver-side seat mountain bracket welding.

Ford said it had not identified any crashes or injuries tied to those defects.

Chevy Compacts Recalled for Warning Chime Issue

A total of 317,572 Chevy compacts are being recalled to address an issue with its warning chime.

The affected vehicles include the 2013-2016 Chevrolet Sonic and Trax, as well as the 2013-2015 Chevrolet Spark. According to the American automaker, the recalled units are equipped with a Bring Your Own Media radio, which may fail to provide an audible warning chime when the driver turns off the ignition. The issue only arises if the driver turns off the ignition and leaves the key in the cylinder for 10 minutes or longer before opening the door.

As a result, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114 “Theft Protection.”

If the warning chime fails to go off, the driver may accidentally leave the key in the ignition, increasing the risk of theft. The company will notify all affected owners and dealers will update the radio software, free of charge. A notification schedule has not yet been provided for the recall.

Subaru recalls 48,500 Legacy and Outback models, urges owners to cease driving vehicles

Attention 2016 and 2017 Subaru Legacy and Outback owners: Your car may not be safe to drive. The automaker has issued a recall of roughly 48,500 of the sedans and crossovers due to a dangerous steering-system defect.

Subaru outlines the problem on its dedicated service campaign site:

“The steering column in your vehicle may not have been manufactured to specification. An incorrect tool setting during the manufacturing process may have resulted in improper machining of one of the steering column shafts. If this condition exists, turning the steering wheel may have no effect on the direction of the wheels, increasing the risk of a crash.”

According to Subaru, this defect renders your vehicle unsafe to drive; the automaker urges you to contact your Subaru dealer immediately. Due to the risks involved, you’ll be able to have your Outback or Legacy towed to your dealership at no cost to you.

The inspection -- and replacement of the steering column, if necessary -- will be performed at no cost to you. The inspection itself takes about 10 minutes, with the replacement taking about an hour (assuming technicians can get to your car right away, of course). In the meantime, you’ll get a no-cost loaner or rental vehicle.

Subaru notes that dealerships in both the United States and Canada are capable of carrying out the recall.

Visit the automaker’s dedicated service campaign site for more information.
