Re: The 2014 F1 Season

Jenson Button has called on the FIA to increase the minimum weight limit for next year’s cars after claiming that taller, heavier drivers are being unfairly discriminated against.

It was rumoured in Germany this week that Hülkenberg may have missed out on a race seat at McLaren because of his weight. He has also been overlooked by Ferrari and is vying with the much lighter Felipe Massa for a race seat at Lotus, because the tall Hulk weighs 74kg.

Lewis:
Quote:
"I actually want to put on another kilo of muscle! I think Michael [Schumacher] was 78kg with all his kit and Adrian Sutil was 82kg. I am not going to be 65kg unless I cut my nuts off.”
Driver weight limit in Formula One is unfair, says Jenson Button

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

That awkward moment when driver's competence and skills aren't a priority but his slightly extra kilos of weight is. WOW!
NOT sure if this news is true or not, but if it is that'd be hilarious. :o

Now Sauber are singing a different tune,

Sauber put an end to Barrichello rumours, Rubens Barrichello will not be returning to F1 with Sauber next season after Monisha Kaltenborn revealed that they have "never discussed a seat."

Cannot be possible, he has already started developing Mercedes's 2014 car very early, I think at the start of this season. I'm sure that rumor isn't true.

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

Why not Brawn just come back home? The dream team is slowly getting back together and Brawn would perfectly fit in at a bigger role at Ferrari.

I hope that Ferrari can have Brawn in place of useless Stephano.

I think Hatari meant to say 2015.
Honda doesn't get back into F1 until 2015. Next year it is going to be Mclaren(with Mercedes engines), 2015 its going to be Mclaren Honda.

I don't know if the rumour is true though.

Re: The 2014 F1 Season

Isn't Honda scheduled to return in 2015? If Ross Brawn does move to McLaren, I don't think it will be for another year atleast. Besides, Mercedes seems to be a much better team to be in at the moment and even in the near future.

Of course its true. It will be very sensitive next year as the power to weight ratio of the F1 single seater will nose dive due to reduced capacity, rev limit, demand on fuel efficiency, increased life of the engine etc. Besides, the new KERS system will be heavy. And in the quest for gaining a weight advantage, the driver is the easiest target.

McLaren will in all probability have two separate teams working on the 2014 and 2015 cars. The work may not be simultaneous but this could provide an opportunity for Brawn to start contributing on the 2015 car without causing too much heart burn at Merc if he leaves them for McLaren during the course of 2014.

McLaren has hinted that they will be signing on BIG names in 2014 to bolster their technical department.

Cheers,

Parik

Top engineers are put on a few months gardening leave if they are changing teams, but a move cannot be stopped.

True, he does have far more technical knowhow than Stephano and will be the ideal sounding board for Fry and Allison.

I mean join the team in 2014 overseeing Mercedes to Honda transition.

I didn't think of gardening leave. That's a good point.

The above article confirms that rumour exists while also mentioning that high level sources at Mclaren denied any such move in the works.
