Slightly OT: I had subscribed to the Star Sports Live F1 Stream for this season. The same was scrapped by Star Sports earlier this season, I have received a refund for the same.

Now the F1 streaming is free on starsports.com may be that's why.

The feed is delayed by around 5 minutes, which makes it tricky to use with other real time apps.

Yep same here - I got a random 500 rupee credit in my card statement wondering what it was. Then realized it was star sports. Mighty ethical of them.

Re: The 2016 F1 Season Thread

So guys, looks like the Red Bull drama has ended. They have secured engines for 2016. According to the grapevine:

"the base engine will still be supplied by Renault, while Red Bull will develop it independently along with their own hybrid energy harvesting systems in a new Red Bull engine division headed by experienced engine guru Mario Illien.

The base engine will be the long-awaited upgraded Renault unit, which Red Bull is expected to use from next weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix onwards, but is likely to be rebranded as an ‘Infiniti’ in deference to the luxury performance marque that is part of the Renault/Nissan automotive portfolio"

Further more:

“Further, it has been agreed between the parties that Red Bull will be able to develop the ICE further in their building 9 complex, without reference to Renault, and that intellectual property of the base unit as it stands now, is jointly owned.

“Disagreements between Renault and RBR over the intellectual property of the ‘co-developed’ PU has been the reason RBR have been desperately seeking a temporary engine partner for 2016. These matters appear to be now resolved.”

McLaren lose Tag sponsorship to Red Bull!
http://gptoday.com/full_story/view/5...p_to_Red_Bull/

After a 30 year partnership, they jump ship. Hope Ron Dennis's ego is taking note.

Wonder if my Tag-McLaren watch depreciates or appreciates in value! The last Tag-McLaren made..

With each passing day McLaren's fortune is tied up more and more with the 2016 Honda PU.
The whole town is busy making fun of Honda whenever they get half a chance, conveniently forgetting that the rules that forbid development & testing are what is keeping their hands tied.
It is "perform or perish" for McLaren and given the competence of both companies and the resources that they can muster, could come a surprise which all McLaren and Honda fans would be proud of.
Arai san has confirmed that the next year's PU design is finalized and has been approved by both parties.
Hope that Honda's testing and validation process is accurate this time around and does not spring a surprise like 2015.

Not a surprise, its an expectation now. My only worry is will this driver lineup be able to match such a development? McL, ever since I have been following F1, has been one star driver, one mediocre one. Right now, One is a known force, but aging fast, and the other used to be brilliant in flashes, but ages ago!
All I am hoping for is a picture again of the McL cockpit like 98, with a caption saying "Is this where the 2016 champion be sitting?"

McLaren has had some evenly matched driver pairings over the recent years, if you leave the Senna-Prost era. etc.

KR x JPM
LH X FA
LH x JB

They may have been, but apart from the first half of Lewis/alonso season, they have not been evenly treated within the team.
You only have to look at JB and JPM now.

Pirelli is hoping to engineer a sudden drop-off in performance back into its tyres for 2016 in order to make racing more exciting.

Since Pirelli returned to the sport in 2011, its tyres have been characterised by a quick degradation of performance during races. It has opened up potential strategy options and helped aid overtaking as fresher tyres offer a significant performance advantage over used ones.

However, Pirellis tyres over the last two years have not been as extreme and the loss of performance has been more gradual than it was in previous seasons. Pirelli is hoping to bring back the sudden drop-off in performance in next year's tyres and will test some solutions in Abu Dhabi at next week's one-day test to try to achieve that.

"We'd love to bring back a proper 'cliff', if we can engineer that in," Pirelli motorsport boss Paul Hembery said. "I don't know if we're going to have enough opportunity to get a solution that works perfectly during the Abu Dhabi test.

"We've got a couple of ideas. I'll know after Abu Dhabi whether it's worked or not. The ideal situation would be to have a 'cliff' back so we can get back to two or three stops rather than pushing the stint lengths as we've had as a tendency of the last two years."

Hembery said the key to achieving a 'cliff' in performance is down to the chemical balance of the compound.

"It would be a compounding thing, something that we're looking at," Hembery continued. "It's things maybe we can do inside the tyre to try and create a kind of 'cliff' which could be a chemically-engineered one, so that it becomes unbeneficial to stay out for longer stints.

"If there's one input we've had it's that they [the teams] really want to get back to two or three stops rather than the predominant one stop racing we've had this year."

Wonder why Red Bull are not revealing the details of their 2016 power unit.
Can only be a version of Renault.

Maybe RedBullies are about to announce a Renault supplied/ Mario Illien developed Tag Heuer badged engine in the Adrian Newey RB12.

When asked by the BBC what the engine will be called, Horner responded: “Wait and see what it is called. “It will be something quite good. I don’t think Ron Dennis will be very happy, but he hasn’t been very happy recently.”

Re: The 2016 F1 Season Thread

During the World Motor Sport Council meeting, the following decisions were taken:

Quote:
The World Motor Sport Council approved, by a near unanimous number (just one vote against), a mandate for the FIA President, Jean Todt and the Representative of the Commercial Rights Holder, Bernie Ecclestone to make recommendations and decisions regarding a number of pressing issues in Formula One such as governance, Power Units and cost reduction. Mr Todt and Mr Ecclestone expressed their intention to establish conclusions on these matters by 31 January, 2016.

The World Motor Sport Council also approved a number of changes to the F1 Technical and Sporting Regulations.

Technical

The number of power unit tokens allowed for in-season development will be allocated as follows over the coming seasons:

- 2016 – 32

- 2017 – 25

- 2018 – 20

- 2019 – 15

Any new Power Unit manufacturer will be allocated 15 tokens in their first year, and 32 in their second.

The padded areas around the driver’s head have been increased in thickness for improved safety.

Sporting

Changes have been approved by the World Motor Sport Council in regard to the way that tyres are used by teams in order to encourage differing race strategies in 2016. These include:

- The tyre supplier will now provide three dry-weather compounds instead of two

- Of the 13 sets of dry tyres available to each driver, the tyre supplier will choose two for the race (only one of which must be used in the race), and one set (the softest available) that may only be used in Q3. Each driver may then choose their remaining ten sets from the three available compounds

- Unless intermediate or wet-weather tyres have been used, a driver must use at least two different specifications of dry-weather tyres – at least one of these must be the one chosen by the tyre supplier.

In the event of a Virtual Safety Car (VSC), DRS will now be re-enabled immediately after the VSC period. Furthermore, the VSC may also be used in practice sessions to reduce the amount of time lost during a stoppage.

Power Units homologated in previous seasons may now be re-homologated. Previously no manufacturer could supply more than one specification of PU. The World Motor Sport Council was also advised that the FIA had agreed for Ferrari to supply a fourth customer team with a 2015-specification Power Unit in 2016.

The maximum number of Championship events in a season has been increased to 21 (from 20). The calendar for the 2016 FIA Formula One World Championship has been confirmed:

20 March Melbourne

3 April Bahrain

17 April Shanghai

1 May Sochi

15 May Barcelona

29 May Monte Carlo

12 June Montreal

19 June Baku
