Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Brazil Grand Prix | Interlagos | 12-14 November, 2021

Leclerc and Sainz say that they will now modify their driving style based on what stewards decide on the Max move.

They said they will drive upto the maximum of what is allowed. So if a inside driver is allowed to run the outside car wide and still keep their place, it means an end to racing from the outside.
He said when Max didn't get a penalty in Austria 2019, he immediately altered is driving style coming to Silverstone

Juan Pablo Montoyo, Mika hakinnen both say Max had no intention of making the corner. With Montoyo even saying that Max prefers to crash to keep his points lead.

Most F1 drivers are now going to seek clarity from FIA on whats allowed in todays Drivers meeting with FIA. This will have long terms implications.

Max was on the outside, legally in his lane, Lewis' was at fault. But the severity of the crash was just a consequence. But I have to disagree that just because crash 50G, the penalty should change. Not the case.
Penalty is awarded for the action. And in my opinion it was justified.

Not a blind fan of either but Max went overboard with this driving, he knew he was up in the points and if Hamilton didn’t go wide they would have come together, if both go out, it’s advantage Max. Then there was the weaving down the straight for which he got a black and white flag. Does anyone remember a black and white given to any driver for unsportsmanlike driving in Formula 1. Max seems to be coming apart at the seams and not able to handle the pressure.

With all this pressure (most drivers etc thinking Max was wrong), FIA/Masi have to set a precedent. I feel they will penalise Max to a certain extent, maybe a 5 second time penalty for that race or a grid penalty at the coming race.

Discipline has to be brought back, if no action is taken then it’s open season/anarchy on the track.

Cheers

Totally Mate!

Don't defend the position, attack the opponent and crash him into the barriers, or just push him into the pit lane entrance, may be just spin them out.
That's racing! What's this immature move of going off the track to defend your position!

News: Stewards deny Mercedes request for 'Right of Review'.

The footage was deemed to be relevant but not significant. Attached below is a screenshot of the official decision document:

No right to review, so everything stays the way it was and we will have more fun watching Max and Hamilton possibly take each other out for the remaining three races of the season and beyond.

Plus encouragement to the others to “amend their driving styles”

Cheers

To clarify, they have not judged the move to be worthy of the penalty or not per se. All they have judged is that the new evidence is not a significant addition to what they already had during the previous race.

That of course indirectly means that the move would have been allowed even if they had Verstappen's onboard that day. It is still setting a precedent for such moves and we'll have to see how others take advantage of it. I for one don't expect them to be consistent in letting such moves go without sanction in the future.

Dangerous driving should be investigated and adjudged within a race weekend. Nobody wants to see race results go into litigation and changed days or weeks after the wheels have stopped turning at an event.

The decision today was less about the infringement itself, and more about technicalities of being able to litigate racing events post facto. Open that Pandora's box, and you bet teams will take everything they disagree with to independent arbitration and we'd all be sat watching court proceedings to know who 'won' races and titles.

Frankly the Lap 48 incident was good racing. And some of the penalties given this year when people crashed into each other while racing or forced someone off the line were not justified.

I fully agree we need to keep improving safety standards. And HANS, the Halo etc are great steps in that direction. But F1 is never going to be perfectly safe. And telling people to make it safer by not racing or not aggressively defending a position is crazy and takes away from the support. Agree that should be applied consistently.
