re: Petrol Hatch to Diesel Sedan - Fiat Linea - Now Wolfed

Another milestone. Reached 16000 kms on the way back home from office.

A customary pic.

re: Petrol Hatch to Diesel Sedan - Fiat Linea - Now Wolfed

Mileage Update:

43rd Refill: 162.7 kms - 11.95 liters - 13.62 KMPL (MID 13.8 kmpl) - Average Speed 17 kmph - Rs. 57.50/- per litre from Shell.

A remarkable difference in the engine smoothness even with only 12 litres of shell diesel as compared to the last refill from BPCL.

Rs 57.50 from shell? That's it?

I think it was 62 last week when I visited. If its 3-4 rupees difference, I don't mind getting their diesel everytime. Feels better with our multijet engines.

After reading nkrishnap's post, I am heading to shell on the way back from office today for the tankup. Definitely makes sense if the difference is just 3-4 Rs. The refinement with shell is leagues ahead of PSU bunk fuel. Another thing I've noticed with Shell - there is almost no puff of black smoke when accelerating hard; something which comes often when using HP/IOC/BP diesel.

Is there a Shell outlet at Madiwala, near St John's junction or is that a BP/HP outlet? I'm planning to topup when I drive back to Cochin next weekend. Last time, I topped at a shell outlet in Lingarajapuram. I immediately noticed the difference so planning to this time also. Kindly suggest an outlet, preferably between Hennur - Hosur since I dont want to deviate from my return route to Cochin.

You will find one on Hosur road to your left, immediately after Silk board and after the toll-road-expressway begins. You'll have to stay on the service road to your left for approximately 1-1.5 km from Silk board signal.

If you plan to take the expressway, you'll have to tank up, come back all the way and climb up the ramp again near Silk board.

Yes, with the recent drop in crude prices the diesel price in Shell has dropped too. If this trend continues expect the price to be within 1-2 bucks of the PSU bunks.

I can vouch for the refinement and the lack puff of black smoke in the event of sudden acceleration.

But my other concern, once the car gets used to Shell Diesel, it will sound very coarse with the diesel from PSU bunks more so when doing the highway trip where Shell bunks are not available.

Another mileage upate:

45th Refill: 196.2 kms - 13.18 liters - 14.89 KMPL (MID 15.2 kmpl) - Average Speed 23 kmph - Rs. 57.50/- per litre from Shell.

I had visited the Vecto service center to pick up the 2 steel wheels for my palio. Got the Windshield spray adjusted and the AC Filter cleaned up since I felt AC not being that effective. The new type (paper filter) does good job of keeping the dust away, but gets clogged easily and would require cleaning quite frequently depending on how dusty the conditions are.

Finally got rid of the right door rattle due the tweeter becoming loose. The Vecto guys fixed it quickly.

Another weird issue has cropped up. The subwoofer box is creating a clank sort of sound when going over humps. Initially thought it was the rear struts, but it was not the case. Wondering how do I fix it.

May be padding up the box edges a bit will help, may be with foam.

May be even thermocol under the box should help. But how worthwhile the effort would be is anybody's guess.

re: Petrol Hatch to Diesel Sedan - Fiat Linea - Now Wolfed

An update after a long gap. Linea is doing its job without much fuss. One thing I certainly don't like is the strength of the alloys though they look great. It can get bent quite easily and the lower profile tyres are not helping either.

A couple of milestones.

18000 mark

Mileage Update:

48th Refill: 327.5 kms - 21.35 liters - 15.34 KMPL (MID 15.8 kmpl) - Average Speed 19 kmph - Rs. 54.82/- per litre from IOCL - Opposite to Woodlands hotel.

49th Refill: 310.1 kms - 21.47 liters - 14.44 KMPL (MID 15.1 kmpl) - Average Speed 17 kmph - Rs. 54.82/- per litre from IOCL - Opposite to Woodlands hotel.

50th Refill: 507.4 kms - 25.03 liters - 20.27 KMPL (MID 20.6 kmpl) - Average Speed 51 kmph - Rs. 54.50/- per litre from BPCL - Hassan.

51st Refill: 317.2 kms - 17.78 liters - 17.84 KMPL (MID 18.3 kmpl) - Average Speed 29 kmph - Rs. 55.39/- per litre from IOCL - Opposite to Woodlands hotel.

52nd Refill: 303.6 kms - 20.58 liters - 14.75 KMPL (MID 15.2 kmpl) - Average Speed 21 kmph - Rs. 55.39/- per litre from IOCL - Opposite to Woodlands hotel.

Now, the other update is changing the tyres. I have shortlisted the Hankook Ventus V12 K110 205/55 R16 tyres. The pics are attached. Any views on the tyre is welcome.
