Good review Jaggu. I know nothing to do with reliability and more to do with prevention but this is what I meant by more attention.

A Toyota will take this abuse lying down is all what I'm saying.

You'll get similar reliability but not the same robustness in a Maruti.

Whats your point dude? First it was reliability now its robustness Then you should have used the right term in the earlier thread IMHO. Isnt that what i mentioned (better for the thread starters need)???!

As far as taking abuse lying down, god help you. All these vehicles will need attention to suspension and stuff when used heavily. I wouldnt get into a comparo between Toyota and Maruti since they dont have similar line up's in India yet. Closest is Sx4 and Altis, Sx4 is one notch below in category right? OR do you want Innova Vs GV??

Yes i agree, plastics might hold better in a toyota

Jaggu, wrong thread I posted. My comparison was for other thread in which the member was deciding to downgrade to swift.

I just laid down the pros and cons of both. If the car needs attention after some abuse it means that it's not as robust. If you keep abusing it without paying attention to it, you will end up with reliability issues.

I agree no use comparing in this thread.

Isnt it applicable to all cars OR are you ok with an innova maintained like a taxi for your use? Now dont say an innova which doesnt have proper maintanence will hold up as it was on day 1? Atleast in my usage, i dont think it will. Yes it might hold better by couple of 1000kms more of abuse thrown at it.

EDIT: Which will not make both the vehicles any less reliable.

  • Change the bush kit if needed, including balance rod bush etc. Ok for a normal owner, this is not needed and whatever difference, might not be felt while driving he he
  • Usual engine flush and oil change
  • Usual air filter change, this is unscheduled change according to Maruti
  • Rattle sanity check, though this time its not the doors and more to do with my spare wheel and rear speaker plank.
  • See if the additional horn can be kept inside bumper/fix a louder bosch/roots or something for the highways
Hi Jaggu,

Is it good to flush engine before every oil change?

I did it during last service and wondering whether it is recommended to flush every time. I know it is recommended while changing from mineral to synthetic. My car is not running on synthetic oil.

So it is true! I thought that I was imagining it. Every time I get back from a nice highway run, my car feels smooth and responsive. Few weeks of Bangalore driving seem to turn it into a grumpy old man. I think it even tried to run over my foot once when I was trying to get in.
Of course my car is a Vxi, but apparently shares some characteristics with its diesel cousin.

Actually i remembered about this when driving back home today, i did a flush at 20k kms so i will not be doing it this time around.

As far as the need goes, its ok to flush at 20-30k kms even if you are not planning for a synthetic shift. On the other hand no serious problems if you dont, these are more of pamper/feel good jobs, since oil is being replaced much earlier than needed.

Thanks Jaggu. This is what I intended to do.

Still waiting for the warranty approval.
Got the car back home to keep it running instead of letting it lie in the MASS yard unused. I was still faster than the surrounding traffic in normally aspirated mode

Fingers crossed for new turbo under warranty. if not- the new one will cost Rs15,000/-. Which to me sounds dirt cheap.
Have some tech 2 readings written down. will put them up tomorrow.
Bill so far- Rs Zero. lets hope it stays that way.

It should be covered under warranty. Its not a wear and tear part, is it ?

What else could keep it out of warranty cover ?

It will be covered under warranty if the assessor make certain that Turbo didn't fail due to faulty use. You can spoil a turbo if you start an engine and zoom off within 30 sec and use the turbo right away or turn off an engine just after a heavy turbo use (Within 2 min of heavy turbo use).

My Safari (between 1999 and 2005) and Marina TDi (2005 to present) has survived in spite of following the mandatory idle before start and before stop for 76000kms and 55000 kms.

It is sad to hear that trrk. Turbo is a new concept in Indian Auto industry and they speeds they run is close to 100000 rpm. high speed needs precision manufacturing and good QC. Both are a suspect with Tatas or their vendors.

But does maruti mention that such a precaution be taken with the engine? I dont think so. I havent seen it in the Swift DDiS manual, nor on the car , nor was the info conveyed while taking delivery, nor were the mechs aware of such a procedure - at least that was what a friend with two Swift D's told me when I asked him about the wait period for turbo spin up and down.

My indica turbo has a big yellow warning label which says the same. Strange maruti didnt add aything similar. And you cant fault a person for not doing something he was never asked to do in the first place.
