Quick report ...installed boash wipers last week and so far they appear to clean windshield much better without leaving "white" ruber scruff that clouded the windscreen earlier.
Small problem was that the size is about half inch smaller and can be a problem for a tall guy behind the wheel.

Today I reset the average meter and had a sedate highway run for 30Kms on NH-17, which is a 2-lane highway. Then I shot this at the end of the run, using my crappy mobile camera.

yeaaaa...that is what I have been saying that new GV is not a petrol hog it is made out to be. When you get a chance drive on the same highway keeping your speed between 75~80 in fifth and easy right foot....that is best average zone.

Today I turned in the GV for the 10,000Kms or 3rd service.

Since yesterday I have been thinking how to answer one question. I have been thinking very hard, practically raking my mind, pulling my hair to come up with a substantial answer. I have been pouring over all my experience with the GV in the last few months. In fact I could think nothing but this even while driving to the service center.

And then the service advisor asked the inevitable question...

He: Ok, we'll do the 3rd free service. What other problems do you have with the vehicle?

Me: Umm... er... Nothing!

That's it folks, I couldn't think of one problem to report after all that thinking, several months of bad road conquering and moderate off-roading.

@Samurai: Bad, V.bad not one problem? How can you be the all conquering avtar if after all the abuse heaped upon the GV you could not find ONE problem....

That is why I love this car. I am heading to Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Rann of Kutch starting tomorrow and have not even thought of any special checkup. Hope to just be up and away early.

Looking forward to pics and report.
anyways, tell me if you want GPS trails of sand dune tracks near Jaisalmer.

Now only if GV had a diesel heart for the same price, it would be the ideal mile muncher!

Thanks but no.

The holiday+work plan is to finalize road books for Desert Storm 2009. That part of track is already finalized and I am only doing a cross check on final road book. No deviation there now.

The work that needs to be done now is to discover a new section1 of day 1 (between Delhi and Bikaner) and full day 4&5 (Rann onwards). Day 6 is almost all done.

If wishes were horses.

But the way I see it with average of 10kmpl on GV (and assuming similar on Safari) for same kilometers you are paying about 1.5 times. If you do 30000kms in a year then you are looking at 3000*15=45000 (<Rs4000/month) extra on fuel.

For peace of mind and much superior build quality and network to me it is worth. Each has its plus and minus but small niggles that are expressed by Safari owners all over to me will be an irritant.

If I have to go for a 2000kms drive and first I have to log in to a workshop - reminds me too much of Amby days when a trip to hills would invariably mean two days at workshop before and after PLUS some breakdown in middle of nowhere.

Sudev, I did not mean for the Storm, but for your own personal enjoyment. Its a hour long detour where you can do some sand blasting
Anyways happy tripping.
Over 8000kms safari is giving me 10.93kmpl(all combined). I guess if I drove at a sedate 90-100 on highways I will actually get more.

BTW, the third free service bill came to 1854/- only. Most of it was wheel balancing (&weights), wheel alignment, wheel rotation, filter and oil. The only out of ordinary item was superglue, not sure where they used it.

good show. this is absolutely true for most vehicles. speeds constant 80-100 in 5th cruising along will invariably return the best FE. Higher speeds than this means constant braking, changing down, re-accelerating and so on which will certainly impact the overall FE. trouble is that most of us are trapped inside the horrible city traffic most times so when we do pop out onto the highways we tend to floor it a bit -possibly just the sudden sense of freedom that we experience.
but your statement is absolutely correct.
all the best and have loads of fun with your GV!
cheers
