Will really appreciate those pics. And to me captian seats really make a lot of sense as they will make the middle row passengers feel more snug and lessen the effects of roll n pitch to some extent.

Attached is the Image of the Captain seat, have a look, you can see there is lot of leg room for at least 1 passenger in back seat!!
3 months 10K kms Mahindra Scorpio VLX mHawk-20090518-09.04.21.jpg

Hope this helps you in making your mind to go for Captain seat arrangement

Third Servicing done:

Total Cost : Nill
Job Done: No Oil change required, this will only happen at 20K servicing.
15K Check list, all the nut bolts checked, clutch checked, vibration of mirrors and other will checked and tightened, rubber bushing that comes in new Scorpio have been put into my vehicle to avoid the metal to metal contact, and these bush does wonder the door and rattling and completely gone at least for now, they have tightened the captain seat and internal mirror too, all is good as of now.

The worst part they didn't vacuumed the interior and it still dusty, need to get a good vacuum cleaner myself with better attachment to reach each and ever nook and corner and clean the interior.

Thanks, they are original Mahindra accessories, as Captain seat cover are not very generic, you find it hard to get it outside, the seat cover are good and too love them, then match with the interior of my VLX[Black], but the heat in Nagpur make the thing worse at least for now!!

10000km and only a few problems!

I have just completed 10000km in my Scorpio mHawk Vlx and it has been a pretty good experience so far.

The vehicle is comfortable, rugged and reasonably economical. It is a pleasure to drive, and, even as a passenger it is a comfortable ride.

I have attached some photos of the vehicle - I removed the body stickers (see my earlier post for details) and now it looks a lot better!

Turbo Problem

The air hose for the turbo blew off as I was climbing up the Kalatty ghat road to Ooty (there are 36 hair pin bends and the road is very steep) - there was a loud bang, black smoke poured form the exhaust and there was no power at all. I managed to get my friends to the railway station in time to catch their train but only just! It was fixed within the hour.

Alloy Dust Caps

The vehicle was supplied with alloy dust caps on the tyre valves. Two of them were stolen when I was parked at Coimbatore airport for a few days, so I ordered some more from CAI Industries BEFORE CHRISTMAS 2008. They have still not got them for me, and suggested I look in local shops to see if I can buy them myself.

Alarm

When I purchased the vehicle I was told that there was an immobiliser but there IS NO ALARM. When the alarm sounded at 4:30 am in an army cantonment in Bangalore the whole area was woken. I ignored the noise because I knew that my vehicle did NOT have an alarm! It was very embarrassing when I discovered that it was MY alarm waking the neighbourhood!

CAI Industries had not given me the supplementary manual that covers the operation of the alarm system. They told me that I could not have a copy because I had not been given one when I took delivery of the vehicle. They offered me a Xerox copy. Very poor attitude!

No Computer for Diagnosis

On the first service CAI Industries did not have the correct computer to diagnose the vehicle's systems. The ABS was not working, but they couldn't reset it without the correct computer. They sent a man from Coimbatore with the correct computer and reset the ABS.

Rattling Parts

The vehicle has developed a couple of annoying rattles - in the rear view mirror and in the plastic trim. I have put elastic bands on the rear view mirror to try to stop it from rattling, and hope that this will be fixed at the next service.

I will be taking it to India Garage in Mysore for the next service - maybe they have a more professional attitude than the other company.

Thanks Pramods. It looks a bit dirty because I was driving it on the beach yesterday! It did rain when i got home, so it's not looking too sandy.

The seats are pure leather and very comfortable - even in the high temperatures.

I saw a black mHawk the other day that still had its gold body stickers on it - the car looked like it was wearing cheap jewellery!

I'm glad I removed my car's body stickers - it adds class to the car.

Let's face it - you wouldn't find plastic body stickers on a Mercedes Benz or a Bentley!

You are no alone in this, heard about similar turbo hose coming off problem in various vehicles. Why can't they tighten the clamps properly for such a critical hose before delivery.

This looks serious , How do they test ABS and how you know it is working properly now.

Hi John,

Nice to see another member from Ooty. I don't live there but come there often. I am building a house there and doing some property development there.

I was always curious how the turbo engines feels when going up the ghats especially the Kalatti stretch where some times the distance between hairpin bends are so little that you don't even get a chance to rev up the engine. Do you feel a lag on the mhawk?

My mm430 used to be a pain when I had the original 2.1 liter peugot engine, but with the Turbo DI upgrade, I am able to suprise some sedan owners when I pass them on the hill. The turbo DI has good low end grunt and he 540 is a fairly light vehicle.

amitk26 - They did bring the correct computer from Coimbatore, but I doubt if they know how to use it! Ten of the "mechanics" were staring at the screen and wondering what to do!

I have had ABS on my vehicles for well over 20 years and there is a simple way to test it yourself. All you have to do is put on your seatbelt, find a quiet road with no traffic, drive along swiftly and JAM ON THE BRAKES!

If the wheels lock, the ABS (Antilock Braking System) isn't working. If it IS working you'll feel a rapid tapping as the ABS cuts in and puts the brakes on/of in rapid succession to prevent the wheels from locking and prevent a skid.

4x4addict - My mHawk vlx laughs in the face of the Kalatti road - as if it's a flat stretch! I never rush on the road from Masinagudi or I become dizzy and feel sick when I reach Thalai Kundah!

I reckon that the steady drive normally takes me around 50 minutes, and all the hair pin bends are taken in second gear. There is plenty of power, even for overtaking. I don't feel any lag at all.

I need to test my ABS , today I did feel that breaks where locking up when I pressed it hard, not sure if it was just the "sound" or it was really locked, but even then the vehicle was inline..

This is good to know. Haven't finalized on the Mhawk yet as I need 4WD since I need to access many building sites in the rains. Contacted a senior manager from Mahindra and he told me that it should be a available by june/july time frame. If there are further delays, I may need to go for Safari or one of the CKD imports.
