Nice report, Vinay. I was just thinking that when a prospective customer has a Xylo, why would he pay more for a Scorpio? From what I've read, the Xylo has better road manners, and can seat more persons. It also has frills that the Scorpio woefully lacks.

Would he pay a couple of lacs more for the Scorpio, merely for better looks?

Probably for the design sake or may be, they might provide a nine seater option as in Sumo Grande (side facing benchs on either sides) in near future when the car becomes popular among taxi walas.

A very nice, detailed and honest opinion, initially reading through you sound like an M&M marketing guy disguised as BHPian

I am feeling that the following are going to happen due to this thread:
M&M asking customers to read this thread instead of TDrives to avoide questions from customers , possible huh?
More and More happy customers for Xylo and M&M
Help a lot of confused people to decide whether to go for Xylo just by reading review
Perspective for Xylo changing (I am one and I see many more in this thread)
Vinay getting a new job and we see you in writing reviews or may be in Zigwheels or overdrive? possible huh?
New members in TBHP coming to read this review and understand

Overall you shoudl be a marketing guy - well done and you deserve an appreciation!
Is it an appreciation or...

BTW did'nt get this "Perspective for Xylo changing (I am one and I see many more in this thread)" kindly elaborate.

All in all, Why i sound like a Marketing guy is answered in the below question by vnabhi. A VFM package that provides more then the scorpio. And thats what I have wrote.

Yes vnabhi, I agree, the only thing the Scorpio scores over the Xylo are the looks and a true blue SUV stance. And surging Scorpio sales prove that looks do matter. Right?

Vinay,
Hope things are back on track and you continue to be happy with the Xylo.

Had a question for you please - any tips on daily cleaning of the vehicle, especially the top. I'm finding it quite a task on my Xylo.

It is useful while (1) wiping the top of the vehicle (2) putting a cover over the vehicle. Without the step, manoeuvering the cover becomes very difficult owing to the height of the vehicle.

This step is intended to serve three functions:
1) Help you to clean the car's roof until ...
2) You fix a roof rack, when it will be very handy to load/unload baggage
and 3) When you reach Shimla, there will be a half dozen touts shouting "hotel hotel hotel" who will need a foothold to hang on to your moving vehicle. Hotel hotel hotel....
The side steps are a great help too!

Hey Manij!

Congrates for the Xylo man! Its probably the second Xylo in the forum! Which model/Color? Do start a initial ownership review please!

As for the question, wiping the top of the vehicle is definitely a very tough task. My Gadi safai wala has refused to do this vehicle and resultantly, I have to spare 15 mins every morning before I take it out. The roof is always left out as am in a hurry and it looks bad. Searching for an option but none found in last one month.

Waiting for your thread.

My wagon R is not as tall as your Xylo.
But I have a small wall about 1 feet tall that separates parking spots in my apartment complex.
I stand on that and hold the roof rails while cleaning the roof.

Since you don't have roof rails, maybe lowering the windows and holding the roof, then standing on a stool/ wall/ big rock would work.

Vinay,
My Xylo is E8 / Gold Shimmer color. I also LOVE the Xylo and am completely blown over by its features and value.
I admire the way you have started and building on this thread with all this drive and passion. I was hoping to get enriched with some of this and hence have hitched on to your thread.

Had a few questions I wanted to bounce of you, if I may:
1) Saw that a new rear spoiler is now available - costing Rs. 6000. The showroom folks think it is a big deal and looks good. I am having mixed feelings. What is your opinion on the spoiler...
2) Any opinion on the Ride-On tyre protection gel. It was also available in the Mahindra showroom and costs Rs. 5600 for 4 tyres of Xylo. The reviews seem good. We can probably remove the 5th tyre and save space and weight if we use this, I guess. The marketing material also indicates it helps to balance tyres....I wonder how though.
3) Would love to get a handsome Chrome/Steel bullbar/front guard - havent been able to find one handsome enough or fitting the Xylo's looks. The stock Mahindra Accessory bullbar does not look good enough...and also looked at the Classique and Carryboy ones too. Would appreciate any suggestions please.
Thank you.

I wish I was so lucky. Currently leveraging an unusual accessory to clean the roof - a household mop with a long handle (in addition to the stool, of course).

Hi guys. Remember me? Still not got my Xylo. they have promised delivery on 15th of April (it never seems to arrive, theory of relativity being proved in my case)

Got a 1.6 100 bhp Siena for the time being. A cool simple car capable of doing 170+ kmph.

Anyway, Was suprised to get a parcel from mahindra and mahindra. Arrived my courier. Had a mahindra auto newsletter with information of mahindra's latest development on their automobile frontier. And a Cadburies celebration gift box with assorment of cholocates. Also carried a letter saying the this was a token of their appreciation for booking Xylo. And also informed that there are 10,000 bookings made in the first 90 days. I have saved the chocolates to enjoy when my car is delivered.

PS: Dont think that i m crazy. I am so impressed with this Siena that for couple of days now i m thinking about getting the Xylo have 6 months or 1 yr.

Dear Manij,

Thanks for your appreciation! However, we in this forum would like a similar thread from you as it will help us compare the experience and judge if it is same with all the Xylo customers or its different. Overall, it will show how Mahindra fairs in terms of buying experience and the Vehicle itself.

As for the questions,

1. Yes, I was waiting for the spoiler as I think It would enhance the look a lot. Although I would first like to see how it looks before going for it. Also if there is a HMSL integrated in it, It would definitely spoil the party as having two of them might not look good. Also 6k is a pretty high price I think. Will check it out this weekend.

2. No idea about this gel. Can you provide more info? Will also check out and let you know whats available here in Delhi.

3. I personally don't like chrome so am searching for a body colored bull bar just for the front. Something like what Tanveer has on his Safari.

Also I would like to add is since I mostly travel in Rajasthan, I wanted to put leather or leatherite seat covers due to the region being dust prone. Mahindra OEM does not look good to me as they are in silver and black finish. I want full black ones and not able to find them outside. Amritsar Car Accessories say they can get them made and want the vehicle for 2 days to fit them. Any insights on seat covers? Are full black ones available there in Bangalore?

Is 6k that high? My pal paid 9k for a spoiler on his Swift. However, please see how the Xylo looks after it is fitted, and go for it if it is good.
I've paid 2.5 k for my WagonR's spoiler after I felt that it greatly improves the side profile---btw, mine is a 2001 model that does not have roof rails.

Hi guys,

Remember me? My Xylo is still not delivered still waiting. The DoD given is 15th of April (it never seems to arrive. Theory of relativity is playing its game on me)

I have gotten a used 2003 Siena 1.6 100 Bhp for the time being. I thought that i would use it till i get Xylo and sell it off as soon as Xylo settles. But i have to tell u, I m impressed with this Siena.

Anyways, Yesterday a parcel arrived from M&M. I was suprised. The cover just had a Xylo logo on the bottom. Came in by courier. Opened it and found a Mahindra newsletter with all the latest development of Mahindra in automobile frontier. A cudbury celebrations gift box with assortment of about 10 chololate. And a letter from VC sales Bharatendu Kapoor stating that this gift was their token of appereciation for booking Xylo. And also informed that there are 10,000 bookings in the first 90 days.Saving the chocos to have it when my car is delivered.

PS: Call me crazy. I m so impressed with this Siena that for couple of days i have thinking of postponing my Xylo for 6 months to 1 yr. Man !!!

A very detailed ownership report, really like going through the entire log. I must say i'm pretty impressed with the Xylo after reading through this thread. Something which can be considered as the next buy !!

Thanks a lot,
DJ
