re: Cellphone Holder

I badly needed Google Maps on a screen for navigation and traffic updates in my Crysta. Unfortunately the stock head unit does not support Apple Car Play / Android Auto. After a lot of deliberation and deciding not to replace the stock head unit decided to go for this Mpow Car Phone Holder and I have my iPhone XR with a 6.1 inch screen mounted on it. It supports landscape and portrait mode and for google maps and I find that the app in landscape mode is brilliant while driving.

The phone holder is installed in the CD player slot and has clamps that you can tighten. The positive side is that once clamps are tightened it is quite firm. The only downside of having this phone holder installed is that it makes the ability to play CDs redundant.

I am looking for a mobile holder that doesn't permanently attach onto the dashboard/windshield using adhesive, gel, etc, something which can be easily unmounted whenever it is not required, so as to not cause clutter. Also not keen on the AC vent mounts since they seem to mess with the air flow.

The IRVM mounting solution might just be the one that I'm looking for, but I am worried whether it'll prove to be a hazard since the phone sits bang in the middle of the driver's peripheral vision. Is this concern valid or am I thinking too much?
Any advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Hi Ram,

I used to use these all the time in my Fluidic and I can assure you that I have never faced any issue with vision. In fact once I was used to it, I could not go back to the standard dash level holders.

For some reason they don't have longevity, and I had to usually replace them once every year or so.

re: Cellphone Holder

I've been using the Bergmann mobile holder on my Ecosport for almost 4 years now and I am very happy with it.

It is a suction type holder. I've added it to the bottom right side of my windscreen.

It holds my phone securely and has never ever lost its grip even when driving over non-existent village roads.

In fact, the suction is so strong that I have used it to fix a fairly large dent on the hood of my Eco (a cornflakes bowl sized dent). I cleaned the dented area, stuck the suction cup and pulled. Repeated this twice and the dent is all but gone.

It is made of plastic, but doesn't feel cheap and the mobile is held in place securely.

Please excuse the poor quality photo. I'm away from my car at the moment and this is the only one I have:

re: Cellphone Holder

Got this amazing phone holder with wireless charging from AliExpress for just ₹550 a year ago.
https://a.aliexpress.com/_dZzIpzO
Although it's very light weight, but has been holding strong on my Vento dashboard on Mumbai roads with my iPhone X. It charges the phone real quick and I don't have to worry about an extra lightning cable as the cable provided with the product is of the perfect size and isn't an eyesore.
Although it comes with an attachment for AC vents, I cannot afford to block the vent due to sweaty palms.

One problem which I'm facing is that the original glue pad has worn off and I'm using a 3M double sided tape but I'm not able to find a proper flat surface on my dash. The holder comes off every 15 days and I need to stick it again.
Here are the two positions which I have tried.

Please do recommend me as to where can I place this holder without covering AC vent

Thanks Joe, im having Ecosport 2019 model and the dashboard seems to be too soft and matte finish with pores and my worry is will it stick like yours and will it withstand the weight of heavier Smartphones. Ive been searching for a reliable mobile holder and just happened to see your post. Can you post a few pics, if possible. Many of my ES friends are looking for a solution. TIA

So sorry, I'm away from my car at the moment. I will be back in Hyderabad next week, will add more photos then. :-)

I have attached the cellphone holder on the lower part of the windshield. This way the bottom of the holder just touches the dashboard and acts like a support. I'm pretty sure this way it should be able to handle all heavy phones.

I've used the holder with a Nokia 7 Plus over absolutely horrible roads and it has never given me any trouble.

Please note that this comes in a few different sizes (to cater to different widths of mobile phones).

re: Cellphone Holder

This issue might be a bit weird to some or most of you. I mounted my iPhone to my bike's (Thunderbird 350x) handlebar for navigation on a long trip and later found out that the camera is not functioning properly. The camera isn't able to focus and a vibrating sound comes out of the phone speaker. I have mounted the same phone earlier as well on long trips but it worked fine previously. Not this time though. I read a lot of posts on Apple threads where people have faced similar issues which is caused by the bike vibrations. Has anyone on this forum encountered a similar issue? How did you address it? Will putting the phone inside a tank bag address the problem? Keen to know.

re: Cellphone Holder

After searching many products on Amazon and Flipkart, I recently bought a magnetic mobile holder from skyvik on Amazon for Rs. 520. It looks sturdy and comes with multiple magnetic plates to attach on the mobile phone. Magnetic plates comes with 3m adhesive on the back. There are different types of models available, I bought the air vent type model. It comes with N45 magnets. I will update on durability after some days of usage.

Thanks Joe. I had a Capdase mobile holder but that was a pain to fit the phone requiring two hands and having to lean forward to lock it in place - the lock being at the back. And also the "arms" holding the phone would let the phone slip on rough roads. Unlocking was also a pain requiring two hands. One to press the unlock button at the back and the other to hold the cellphone.

Yours sounds interesting and while you speak highly of the suction. Could you throw some light on the operation to lock/ unlock the phone in place and the strength of the arms to hold the mobile in place.

Magnetic seems to be easiest to operate. But a little concerned on the magnets being close to the phone for extended periods of time (just a perception and don't know if there is any science behind it.)

Having used this mobile holder for a long time over a mix of awesome and awful roads I can assure you that this won't disappoint.
1. You will not have to use 2 hands to lock/unlock your mobile phone.
2. It will not let go of your phone easily.

If you have a heavy phone and drive over poor roads the phone will vibrate. It looks as if the phone is headbanging to the music but the phone won't fall off.

I have attached some photos below. Here's how you lock the phone in place:

1. The 2 rectangular pieces (marked OPEN) need to be pressed in order to open the holder's arms.
2. Press them fully and the arms lock into the open position.
3. As you place your phone in the holder, the small round button is pressed by your phone's back and that closes the holder's arms - snapping them securely against your phone.

To remove the phone, just press the 2 rectangular pieces once again as you hold your phone.

The bar at the bottom can be adjusted if you have a tall phone - it also ensures your phone doesn't slip down.

I earlier used a Nokia 7 Plus (with the company provided plastic cover) and now use a Samsung Note 10 (with a Ringke Fusion-X case). In both cases, I've never had to use 2 hands to place the phone in the holder (or take it out).

Please let me know if you need more pics or videos - I'll be happy to share.

Using the same for the past three years. Can vouch for its durability. Being smaller in size, it doesn't hamper the visibility.

re: Cellphone Holder

Any suggestions for a good cell phone holder for Seltos, considering the huge 10.25" screen and limited place to keep the phone near the hand break area.

re: Cellphone Holder

RAM Mount of USA has launched this amazing phone mount for cars. And is one of the best I've used. The Quick Grip holder is very sturdy, and feels glued in. It comes with lifetime replacement warranty. The claws prevent the phone from being snatched away. Happy with this one My Spigen gator grip was doing duty for 4 years and no issues there, but this windshield mount brings the phone closer to me. (Pardon the bad pic as this was taken by the shop keeper)

Am looking for a non shaking/ strudy phone holder which I can fix both in windscreen and dashboard (with sticker) but not in air vent.

In long drive phone gets heated up in wind screen

How are the magnetic holders? Are they safe for phone?

And lastly I don't wanna spend much like RAM mount

re: Cellphone Holder

Not exactly a very nice question but I'm using 2 mobile holders in every car of ours on the windshield only, one for the driver, the other one for dad on the co passenger seat whose spare phone is continuously monitoring the stock market 9 to 5.

Though immensely convenient, but these holders' adhesion doesn't last very long. As a result I'm frequently buying them for some car or the other.

Guys, is there any adhesive glue which I can use for these holders when they pop out?

I have been hearing about Loctite Glass Glue. How's it? I need something that can last long and doesn't leave mark on the windshield or ATLEAST doesn't look greasy when the windshield is looked at from the front.

Thanks in advance.
Aviansh.
