Ok, let me try the tyres bit.

185/70 is ok for city driving, with the occasional highway jaunt. No problems really. I have them on the stock steel rims, and I've hit 165, and thrown the car about quite a bit. The ride quality is simply amazing.

If you want 14s, I suggest you buy alloys as well. Purely for looks. Also, the right upsize would be 195/60 R 14. This would decrement FE by about 0.5kmpl, or maybe not even that. But if you're a cornering enthusiast, who lives on the edge of grip, it's a wise investment. Otherwise, it's basically looks. And it does look much, much better.

Phew! Hope that clears somethings up!

@islandman, what's the final decision? child seat or driving pleasure?!

Hi Observer,

1. 185/70 R 13 : Best Ride, good Braking, Average cornering grip, higher body roll (v1p3r's Baleno..good option if you want to keep the rims and dont compromise safety)
2. 185/65 R 14 : Slightly firm ride, Good Braking, Good cornering grip, little body roll (My Baleno...at least increase the Rim Size if Alloys are to be put)
3. 195/60 R 14 : Firm ride, Best braking, Best cornering grip, little body Roll.
...if you want perfect ALLOY looks try 15" rims...stop worrying about ride comfort though...the tyre options here will be
185/60 R15, 195/55 R15, 205/50 R15

Hey, I've noticed the body roll in tight corners. Can you explain how the larger wheels with same overall diameter will cut down body roll?

there will be less tyre flex on teh sidewall and hence less of unsettlement on the body of car.....note that a soft suspension increases body roll and same will be the case with soft sidewall in the tyre...

15 inchers????

hey guys saw the tyre talk goin on....well im needin some help too.
now wht im doin at the moment is upgrading my stock rims and tyres...but there's a catch cant afford both alloys and tyres together now:(.so wht the tyrewala told me was upgrade to 195/r14 brgstons/eaglef1/falken any one of em.for the rim he's gonna provide me with 14 inch rims of a different car take a deposit for them and gimme the money back when i put the alloys from him....now should i go ahead with this or not?????

the second part-- i heard from a lot of guys that if i go in for 15 inchers the suspension neeeds some extra mods and also the cars gonna crash over potholes because of the lesser suspension travel.....now thts got me even more confused about teh 15 inchers....wht do i do???

body roll is when the car tends to flex a bit...due to bad tires or suspension..in corners

Body roll- very simply put, when you turn into a corner, esp very hard (read fast)
the body of the car tends to sway, one end rolls(dives) towards the ground and one end away,
Now this is obviously not fun for the occupants as it gives a feeling of instabilty

actually it is a sign of instability, as after a point, at the limit of the body roll, the wheels on that side will tend to lift off.

So the stiffer the car is, the less body roll you will have, the better your cornering and handling will be and the lesser the chanceof turning over!

Hope thats good enough!

Hi Guys. I was quoted the following price for the accessories for Baleno LXI by a local dealer in Noida. Do you mind advising whether he is overcharging on something ?

1. Power Antenna - 750/- No warranty
2. RearSpoiler - 1500/- (Including painting and fitting) - No warranty
3. Keyless System with alarm - Autocop for Rs.3200/- (includes ignition block) - 3 yr warranty
4. Music System - I want one which can play CD and Cassette and FM/AM (Double Dean). He suggested several ones as follows. All prices are exclusive of speakers.

a. Sony - Rs 15,000
b. Pioneer - Rs 12,000
c. JVC - Rs 8,000

I want to know which is the best music system I should go for. My limit is 12,000 without speakers. Also please suggest me which speakers should I buy ? I do not need very high wattage. Just average ones. But the quality and clarity should be good.

I think you can bargain on the Pioneer price. Not quite sure about the rest. You get a Pioneer 6750 (single cd mp3 player with am/fm) for 7.8k, just to give you a perspective.

I just got Sound Stream speakers E series, 2 rear speakers 6" x 9" 150 W RMS for 6k and 2 front speakers 5.25" 75 W RMS for 3.1k and they are pretty awesome. JBL ones are cheaper, 4k for the rear and 2k for the front.
