Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Gurus, can you please advise on what's the right engine oil for a CRDi engine with VGT. I am asking for my Manza which has done about 26k km's and Tata recommends Mobil1 0W40 for this with oil change interval of 20k km's.

I did the first oil change at 15k km (early wrt 20k recommended). Now the next oil change will be at 30k km.

Though Tata recommended, is Mobil1 0W40 good for the diesel engine? If not, what's the recommendation? My car is in warranty for next 3 years so I need to see how to go about anything other than Mobil1 0W40.

The reason I am asking is because I have observed that refinement levels have reduced in my car and engine sounds a little rough at all RPM's. No drop in power or pick-up observed though. I use system D as well after every 3-4 tanks.

Thanks in advance.

We all know that it is National Engine that is under the hood of the Manza in its VGT guise.

The only synthetic that is recommended for MJD with VGT is Mobil Delvac 1. It is available in India

For details on the distributor for your region please do write to mustafa.muhammed@exxonmobil.com

Hope this help

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Can anybody list down the API CH4 rated oils (Synthetic) available in India. Most seems to be CF rated only

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Hi,

I have filled Valvoline 20W40 CF Multi Diesel engine Oil in my FIL's 96K old Omni today.

The engine seems smoother compared to 20W50 Servo. Maybe because I changed the Plugs/Airfilter as well.

If everything is OK till next oil change, I will Shift to Delvac 15W40 for my M800.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

My query is a bit odd, and I would like to take advice from you guys:
My ANHC is due for second service, and first oil change. The car is used almost exclusively for highway travel (about 90-95%), with round trips of 450 KMs every weekend to my hometown. I use another car for commuting to office.
Firstly, does this kind of driving have any bearing on what oil I should use? From what I have read and understood on team-BHP, many people are satisfied with mineral oil, and that's the direction towards which I am veering. I would like to know if I should reconsider my decision.
Secondly, since it can be safely assumed that the vehicle does negligible cold running, would it be ok if I increased the service intervals in future? (or will this too depend on the type of oil I use?)

I thought factory fill for the ANHC is semi-synth. What grade is recommended in your owner's manual and service centre?

Stick to factory recommended service intervals if you want your car to be in the pink of health.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

^I agree with Nitrous.

Also I gather from this forum is that Synthetic should be opted post breakin period. I will switch to Synthetic on my City post 10k km.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Hello Fellow T-BHPian's -

My Swift Vxi is anytime due for its 25K service, all this while it's been working fine on mineral oil, I had a few queries regarding synthetic oil, I would be thankful if the Gurus here may help me:

1) Is it worth spending 4 times the extra money on Synthetic Oil over Mineral Oil?
2) If I decide on going for it, which is the best grade for Swift Petrol?
3) I usually get my 5K service done at a local shop and the 10K at Maruti Service stations, now if I switch to Syn. Oil @ 25K, which would be done under my supervision, how may I ensure that @ 30K the service center guys would not dilute my synthetic oil, which by that time would be only 5K Kms old?
4) What is the frequency of changing the Syn. Oil, in Kms, please?
5) Does it really enhance the performance or for that matter increase the engine life, I intend to keep my car for good 10 years.

Thanks to one and all for their valuable inputs.

Happy Motoring!!

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

^^
"Is synthetic worth it?" is a topic thats been discussed a gazillion times on here.

I'd recommend you move to "semi-synth". The 10W40 grade should be best for the G13B engine. Every brand has a 10W40 grade. You can use Mobil, Shell HX7, Castrol Magnatec , Petronas, Valvoline or Total 7000

Using Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck in a Car That's Not a Diesel or a Turbo

Apparently some diesel engine oils can be used in petrol engines.

Khoj,

I guess you mentioned 5W30 grade is recommended for Cedia. Is that the grade that you used? I'm conteplating to switch to synthetic oil from next service for my Cedia. I wanted to find out which is the right grade of synthetic oil to be used. And by the way, what does these numbers 5 & 30 signify in 5W30? Not sure if it was already discussed somewhere in this thread. Pointer would help.
Thanks in advance.

Sir, Although I am not an expert, I shall like to share my experience with you. I have switched over to full synthetic oil (Castrol Edge, 5W-40) for four months now on my petrol Indigo (2005-GLX) and I am happy with the result. Not only the engine has become slightly quieter, the fuel mileage has also increased marginally. As my car runs around 1000 KM a month, I plan to continue to use this oil for a year. I think you may instruct the Maruti service people not to change your engine oil and they will not replace it. IMHO, you may safely use this oil either for 15000 KM or for a year, whichever comes earlier.
I welcome any difference of opinion.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

I have never had a problem with an A$$ not using oil supplied by me. Only the oil should meet or exceed the company specs. In the past few years I have had Maruti, Hyundai, and Honda vehicles. In the case of Maruti there are also a lot of A$$es which are not dealerships!
