Thanks for the reply. I've asked them not to put in "company" oil.
So the only question is whether the cost justifies the performance, at 3300bucks for 10k kms vs 1400bucks for 10k kms. But if the engine is smooth that means longer engine life na? Then I'll take the M1.
Now have to find a genuine dealer in tvm. I found it in some shops but they kind-of felt fake.

There is a decent oil shop at Pongummoodu(ullor), when you go to sreekaryam from pongummoodu junction the shop comes up on the right side after the petrol bunk and car shoppy. Forgot its name but iirc it starts with k.

Other option is to go to thampi's garage on chaka byepass. When you go towards venpalavattom from chaka jn, and after you come down the bridge you will see a truck stop to the left. opposite to this truckstop is a lane going down, its a bit difficult to spot it, the garage is in that lane.

@knob: quite frankly the best VFM is a good Semi. I am quite sure that barring unusual circumstances you can expect 150,000+ km from any modern engine irrespective of whether it is a good mineral, semi- or full synth. So you pay your money and take your choice. Every single car of mine once out of warranty has gone to the once a year routine. The Civic will also follow the same line.

+1 to ^^. For normal (read: non-performance) usage petrol cars, semi synthetic makes a good case for itself. And almost all oil co's have their brand of semi syn like Total 7000, Castrol Megnatec, Mobil XHP. Usually grade is 10W40 and API is either SL or SM. Price is 1/3 of fully synthetic (~300/L).

Anybody have a clue on what synthetic oil can be used in a Ford Fiesta TDCI?? Ford recomends 10W30 oils across its range of Petrol and Diesel engines. The car has run 40k KMs on mineral oil and now i plan to shift to Synthetic oil.

Mobil 1 5W50 should be perfect.

Mobil1 comes in 5W30 grade and i'm not sure if its sold here, ask your Mobil distributor if he can get that for you. That would be perfect. I wouldn't advise going higher in viscosity above recommended, at 40k Kms your engine doesn't warrant a thicker oil.

Nitrous Wouldnt that be too thick a oil for the grades used in the fiesta?

I did speak to him but he has only petrol engine oils in that grade he has delvac in synthetic but thats 5W40 hence the confusion.

What spec oil does your Fiesta need, API CF, ACEA B1? M1 meets some specs.
The bottle of M1 0W40 i bought has the followong printed on the bottle API SM/CF, ACEA A3/B3 and A3/B4 and some more.

The thing with ford is that they arent too Enthusiastic about customers using their Grey cells and purchasing stuff from the open market!

All that my Manual says about Recommended Oil for the Duratorq Diesel engine is - Ford Or motorcraft Formula E SAE 5W-30 Engine oil Specification WSS-M2c913-B, Thats all that the Manual says. Hence my confusion.

hi Born 2 Be Wild,
I have used Shell Helix Diesel Plus VA (5W30) for my dad's laura. It confirms to ford engines requiring oil specs M2C917-A.
I don't know whether it exceeds your required grade of M2c913-B. Try inquiring from ford service adviser.

ACEA A5B5-08

From that link it looks like the the ford spec oil matches ACEA A5/B5.
Mobil1 5W30 also meet the ACEA B5 specifications.

I have been using Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 in my swift petrol for the past one year. It is time to chnage the oil now. Should I stick to Shell or change to Mobil1 0W40? Are they both priced similarly? The car has clocked 28k km and is into its 6th year now.

Prices are more or less similar. Advantage with Mobil is, it is available in the MASS itself, though price may be higher than outside.
