Re: Bookings open in Malaysia

Quote:
An advertisement for the BMW G310R, purportedly taking bookings for the upcoming small-displacement BMW, has appeared on local classifieds website Mudah.
Quote:
The advertiser is inviting potential buyers of BMW’s joint-venture motorcycle with Indian company TVS to place refundable deposits of RM300, with the expected sales price to be between RM25,000 to RM30,000.
Quote:
This naked roadster, with a single-cylinder engine displacing 313 cc produces 34 hp at 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm and weighs 158 kg. Designed in conjunction with TVS of India, the impending release of the BMW G310R is one of the most widely anticipated motorcycle launches in 2016. The 2016 BMW G310R is rumoured to be launched in March, but BMW Motorrad has not made any confirmation.

Considering that 25000 RM equates to 4 Lakh, The price point is steep (Compared to the dukes), but the bike is manufactured in India and exported, hence taxes might have bumped the price up .

Wistful thinking

Not really. You may be right. The KTM 390 is sold slightly around 5K USD which is close to 3 plus L INR.

So we can expect around 3.15 L ?

Video: BMW G 310 R spied in Chennai

BMW Motorrad's entry level motorcycle - the BMW G 310 R was displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo, earlier this year . Now, a test mule of the bike has been spotted in Chennai without camouflage.

The G 310 R is an entry level performance motorcycle with a 313cc, single-cylinder, liquid cooled engine that makes 34 BHP @ 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm of torque @ 7,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

The G 310 R will be placed in a highly competitive segment, and will be up against the likes of the KTM RC 390 and 390 Duke, Yamaha R3, and Kawasaki Ninja 300R. The bike has been designed in Germany and will be produced in India.

Re: Video: BMW G 310 R spied in Chennai

I'm curious to know who will sell this? TVS or bimmer? Hoping it's the former.
Btw, the BMW expo link is for cars, not motorrad.

Re: Video: BMW G 310 R spied in Chennai

Did anyone listen to the video? Fell down laughing!

"BMW 310ra. Dey loose poda. Pokamaatingada vandi. Gear maatti irakku" translates something to "Its a BMW 310, go go. You loose fellow, go fast. And the driver says I'm trying, but the car is not going. And co-passenger says you shift down and try"

I'm surprised they are testing without any camouflage though. Probably the launch is confirmed. I hope it retails through BMW outlets rather than TVS. Eagerly looking forward to this launch. Its a shortcut to owning a vehicle from the legendary brand and should be worth the hype too.

The commentary for sure was hilarious. DDis below 1500 rpm i guess. Looks like Chennai bypass from the video.

I was also thinking in the same lines as you about the shortcut to BMW brand. BMW would be thinking how to handle its brand image if they ever sell it as a BMW here. They have the most impressive two wheeler lineup be it supersport or off-roaders. Selling an inexpensive bike could affect its brand image right? Even if they plan to sell, they could spruce up some TVS showrooms in tier 1 cities in the same lines as NEXA and sell these. Selling just one model of bike from these showrooms does not look a commercially attractive proposition though.

Re: Video: BMW G 310 R spied in Chennai

Hahaha loved the commentary by the boys more than the glimpse of the 310. "310 da maaka podala!" Which sort of translates to "it's 310 u duffer, just go!". Tamil guys can relate to these conversations, especially when going out with a bunch of friends.
Bike looks cool in blue. TVS can demarcate their showroom and set aside some space for BMW; theme it in BMW style-logo, wallpaper et al.

The launch is very near!
I have heard that the bike would be launched at the end of august. No camouflage because the bike is launched in the international markets already and showcased at the auto expo here. Happy to see that a twin channel abs would be standard.

Hope they price it right!

Which international market? I thought it's yet to launch anywhere as I just couldn't find a single review online!

This is cool stuff!

Just cant wait for the launch. Surprised to see the bike without camouflage!

I am sure the price will be close to 4.0 L on road.

What will be more interesting is the After sales service part. This is where TVS would be most useful or useless!

Definitely a gateway product for BMW to the mass market

Agreed BMW is a Premium brand.. but the product per se doesn't appear to be worth TWICE that of the more powerful KTM 390's

Have seen it in flesh at AutoExpo. It isn't too different to look at vis-a-vis the KTM 200/390 Duke

4 lakh would be bad pricing

Why should a locally manufactured single cylinder 300cc motorcycle cost THAT much?

Why not?

It is a BMW!

Pricing will be dependent on market placement and perceived brand value. 4L may be streaching it a bit, but I feel that will be the strategy employed.

Or I could be wrong!
