Can you let me know the brand of those handguards? Your bike looks great, buddy, with all those accessories. However, in my personal opinion, if you had slightly broader handguards, it could aesthetically enhance the overall look even more.

The rear brake on my Dominar is similar; it doesn't provide much confidence. My friend also owns an older version of the Dominar, and both of us seem to experience the same issue. I suspect that the rear brake on all Dominar models might not be very powerful.

The handguards are generic Acerbis handguards available at all accessories store. Thanks for the input, I am considering adding a broader handguard

Re: Ridden: Bajaj Dominar 400

Hello fellow BHPians,

I'm facing a bit of weird issue with the rear brakes of my D400. The bike has lost lots of the braking power. I have to wait for the brakes to heat up a little bit (driving with slight pressure on brakes for about 0.5-1km) and then the brakes work normal. I have recently done 370km in a day, I didn't have this issue once, rather I have encountered the issue during quick city runs. After washing the bike, when disks are wet, it's like there's no such thing as rear brake. Now I know the water reduces the friction, but the brake should work at atleast some capacity even though it's wet, which is not happening.

Dominar has a big bike feel when fully loaded with a top box and saddle bags. A recent snap from my trip from Kerala to Bangalore.

Can you please share some details of the crash guard? Which brand is it, the price and any review of the same? Thank you and happy riding...

Thank you. The tyres on my D400 are at the end of life and I need to replace them soon. While the stock ones are good, any other models worth considering? I drive mostly in the city.

If you are using the bike mostly on city there are 2 budget friendly options
- Ceat Zoom Rad X1
- Apollo Alpha H1 [I am currently using these]

These 2 are strictly for road usage. If you also do little off-road riding you can also look at the Apollo Tramplr XR

Hello! Which windshield is that? I have checked most Indian based accessories makers for Dominar and can't find it. I am a new owner in Greece (tour version) and I am looking to buy some accessories for it (via package forwarding I guess) but I am not sure of the quality of the makers. i.e. I was seeing a video of a Hyperrider top box and saddle stays that is rated > 7k but people say color goes away or it breaks because of bad manufacturing.

Thanks

Hi, welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your new motorcycle!

The windscreen is from Carbon Racing. If you zoom into the posted image, you can see the name embossed on the side.

Can't comment on that specific topbox quality, but getting something that large shipped all the way to Greece is likely to be costly. Might be a better idea to look for a box available locally, even if it means getting an adaptor fabricated locally.

Thank you! That's the one I was looking too as it seems higher than Bajaj's one and it also has the stabilizers. I like the dark and the smoked one.

Sorry, I meant the top rack from Hyperrider, not the box but made a mistake. I have the original from Bajaj but it can't hold more than 7kg (so no top box) and I have trouble putting a Givi topcase on it unless I remove the pillion backrest and even then there is not enough clearance for the passenger as I have to push it forward. The top racks I have seen from Zana, Hyper, Sahyadri seem to be a bit further back but not sure about quality / color, I have the black matte Dominar.

It's not about the mechanical force a rack can take. Most rear racks are rated for around 7kg or lower (or at most a little higher), for the simple reason that you don't want too much weight hanging so far back off the motorcycle. It's not about the weight, but the force and leverage. Remember, the longer the lever arm, the higher the force applied.

Having a large weight hanging beyond the rear wheel will mess with the machine's dynamics, causing a light front-end effect, especially at higher speeds (where the wind resistance will make the effect worse) and while cornering (where you need more weight on the front for better control).

Zana's rear rack is rated for "7-10kg" (quite a large spread there). Hyperrider is quoting a laughable "88 kgs". Likely the amount of force needed to deform the metal or break the bolts, so not a usable metric.

Zana's rack is powder coated, so it shouldn't really have color problems. Worse case, spray paint it yourself if something happens down the line. No relevant information on the Hyperrider listing.

7-ish kg is actually quite a decent amount of luggage. Most sizable top boxes are around 3kg in weight. 4-5kg of luggage isn't too bad, as likely you will have panniers or bags to supplement.

Thanks a lot for the explanation. Actually most top boxes I found here were 5kg themselves (anything 40lt+), so was wondering if the custom racks would be able to carry them plus some weight (5-7kg). I guess I will stick with the stock and keep the topcase on it, maybe buy the original saddle racks by Bajaj too in case I ever put some soft bags there (if I can find them locally). I checked some forwarder costs and 5kg shipping or volumetric cost is crazy, 1/20th of the bike so not worth it for anything big. Will stick to smaller accessories for now - windshield, fluid caps, stand extender and handlebar riser.

There are a few Indian gear makers that make some good quality and very well priced saddle bags (amongst other items), and they ship them internationally.

Rynox and ViaTerra are two that are well regarded here.

Rynox:

ViaTerra:
https://viaterragear.com/collections/saddlebags

The prices (and quality) are very good, speaking from personal experience (other luggage and gear from these, but not saddle bags). Check how much the shipping would cost for these. It will probably still be more cost effective than certain other brands.

As an aside, I have see the Dominar's stock rear rack used to lift the bike to reposition it, so the weight of your top box will be fine . Just err on keeping the load there as low as you can, for the reasons given in my last post.
