re: Royal Enfield unveils Interceptor & Continental 650 with new twin-cylinder engine. EDIT : Launched

I feel that if the often suggested price points of 3.5-4L Ex-showroom are indeed correct then the two twins risk very low sales.

Right now the highest selling model for RE is Classic 350, The Classic 500 is not in favour (so it is not just the shape but the FE and price point of the 350 which also matters to customers). The Thunderbird 350 too is not in favour let alone the 500 so it is again price and shape that seems to matter. The 350X, 500X and Himalayan are all niche segments as will be the 650 twins but with a price point of 4L Ex-Showroom they get too close to HD Street 750 in price terms and RE650 twins just won't be appreciated even if they look better and have better ergonomics and the price quality, brand value and reliability won't matchup. They need to be very close to 3L Ex-Showroom verses what is being reported. It may happen if they plan well at least as introductory pricing.

My bad. Thanks for correcting.

I didn't realize the black was GT 650 as the seat was different. Apologies for the dumb post.

Boy it sounds sweet. The Interceptor will surely give company to my Himalayan once RE finishes the unofficial Beta testing, targeting H2 2020.

No surprises - not even in the form of new colour options that we haven't seen before. But since we still do have quite a wide range of options to choose from, I shouldn't be complaining.

Few more details that I gathered from the tidbits available online -

- Service interval is 10k km
- 3 year warranty being offered
- A range of 40 accessories on offer for both the Interceptor and the Continental GT
- About 28-30 of them are common to both the twins, and the rest are unique
- S&S exhaust is still under development, and will not be available at launch
- S&S exhaust not confirmed for India
- Today and tomorrow are ride days (Sep 24 & 25)
- Formal launch is planned on Sep 26th morning 7:30 AM India time (Sep 25th 7:00 PM at California)

Sounds good IMO, specially the stock one.

Also - Unlike other RE machines - the speedometer console is NOT dancing when the throttle is opened up! Thats a good sign!

Cruising ability between 100 to 120 would make this the most desirable Royal Enfield in my books without doubt.

That cruising ability is what made me skip the purchase of the Classic 500 and wait for this twin cylinder for over 3 years !

I highly respect Shumi's reviews and opinions too, so quite thrilled to hear it.

Even 150cc bikes can wheelie right? What is so special about the Continental GT's wheelie?

But honestly, I haven't come across any image or video of the Continental GT 535 doing a wheelie ever, so maybe its special.

It takes a special skill to do that on their existing models, not sure about the Himalayan. The new 650 cc seems to be different, will have to wait to find out though.

And boy, that rumble!! I'm super kicked after hearing that exhaust note. Never imagined an RE to sound like this.

Even when the first promotional video came out where Sid was seen riding the twins, the exhaust note was audible but it felt more like a staged one to create the hype.

Being a multi-cylinder engine, the best part is the exhaust note. I don't think there is any way to make it sound bad. Even with a complete muffled exhaust system, in high rpms, it will still sound good.

Only worry from the looks of it is that those pipes are sticking out which will lead to some dents and scratches on it.

Wonder when the India prices will be revealed since now we have some progress in the launch department.
