It reminds me of my gen 1 - Discover 125. On speed, will this bike be able to hold 150KMPH cruising?

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

Are the dealers and service centers now suddenly accountable to Bajaj Auto management (instead of, to Triumph India)?

Outside of Chennai and nearby, why's there so much optimism? The service centers are well-documented by BHPians as utterly untrained, incapable and dispassionate. No hint of empathy too when escalated to Triumph India management e.g.

Keerthi Triumph (Bengaluru) ruins an engine (2021 Triumph Trident 660 unveiled. Edit: Now launched at 6.95 lakhs)

Attitudes and capabilities cannot be corrected overnight.

Who will want to buy (and maintain) these bikes after the extended warranties are over? - Only a few who are technical or those who are connected to experts.

RE, on the other hand has arrived in the villages. Arrived well before RTE (Right to Education). Elderly farmers have no fear going to the service center.

Sorry, but I cannot see how a Triumph makes better sense than the Royal Enfield machines unless they offer a 10 year total warranty+protection on the powertrain. I would willingly pay 50k more if they do.

And I hope they do. Because competitors aren't still in shock two nights after, they are working hard already.

Disclaimer: Never invested in RE shares nor have ever owned any RE bike.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

How motorcycling scene is changed in India in the last 15 years and for good.

Around 2008, when I got into motorcycling for pleasure, there were hardly any affordable options in mid-size segment. For as recent as 2009, Machismo 500 boasted of maximum power for an Indian production bike until 2010 when the Classic 500 took the lead with 27 bhp. We as riders, use to look towards foreign brands like Triumphs and Harleys and dream of 40-50bhp bikes under 5L. Majority of our discussions during a ride used to hover around why can't Enfield make a Bonny-like but affordable bike and so on and so forth.

And today, the world is taking note of our manufacturing potential, especially in the automotive segment, and the growing market potential for two-wheelers which India at present is. Most of those big brands have tied with Indian counterparts to offer cost-effective products for India and also export to the world.

The result of the Bajaj-Triumph venture, the SPEED 400 & SCRAMBLER 400 X and especially their pricing swept us off our feet. The number of impulse bookings by Team-BHPians itself speaks a lot, not taking away the fact that the strategy of 10k discount for the first 10k bookings and keeping the booking amount as low as 2k is helped the cause tremendously.

The bikes themselves look yummy, following the Triumph pedigree and lineage to the T, and seem to have a good build with a great finish and attention to detail. Great power and torque figures, great equipment, unfathomable service interval, and weight in check.

Personally, I have been waiting for the Himalayan 450 to replace my ageing 310Gs, But this Scrambler 400 caught my fancy. Bitten a few times with new product launches, I have not booked this on impulse and am not in any hurry. Will wait for the initial buzz and euphoria to settle down, have some longish test rides, assess the suitability for my requirements and take a call.

Big applause to Bajaj and Triumph for making this happen in India. What we as riders use to dream of 15 years back is a reality with these products in the market. Good times.

Folks,

I have booked the Speed 400 and received the receipt . I had made the payment by credit card but the same has not been deducted. I just wanted to know if the same is the case with you all as well. Maybe, Bajaj Auto has just taken a credit card authorization as is done by hotels when you check in.

It's a street bike like we both know without any wind protection. So obviously, imho, it'll be able to reach 150(yes) but maintaining it is different. I believe to comfortably(engine stress free) cruise we need more power.

The waiting period quoted by my local triumph dealer was 3 months.
The ground clearance quoted by power drift is 158mm. Someone here already deduced it with grids on picture.

However if they do the entire delivery charge/compulsory accessories/insurance thing, expect to see a lot of cancelations.
Reason for that being:
1. Kochi Triumph ASC is mediocre
2. What's the point of low price if it's marked up by dealer like this(if true).
3. Still no idea regarding other ASC opening in Kerala so far. This will give the current, single, all kerala dealer too much power and will equate to harassment of customer.
I'd rather put up with the known ktm niggles over that.

More info on this -

I'm hoping that Keerthi Triumph and all the old school Triumph dealers will soon learn that Bajaj Probiking is a different ball game compared to the old India Triumph.

The new Triumph twins sure do look gorgeous. But this the reason I'm staying away from Triumph. I have a CB350 and plan on keeping it atleast for the next 10 years. But keeping in mind our road conditions, I'm waiting for Honda to bring a CL300 or any scrambler/adv under 400cc which would have a good balance between running costs and practicality for everyday use.

What is the role of Bajaj in this Bajaj-Triumph partnership? Will they only manufacture the bikes or will be able to use the same platform, engine for their future bikes? Is there any launch in planning with same engine/platform by bajaj?

One of the biggest selling points for most who spend such huge amount of money is always exclusivity. Would this hit Triumph badly at the upper end of the market?!

Would love to hear from any existing Triumph owners on this forum.
I own a ST 900. I am happy that this launch will increase dealer and service center footprint (and will hopefully reduce service cost & quality for me as well). I don't think I care too much about too many cheaper Triumph bikes being on the road. I bought my bike for what it offered in terms of power, torque, acceleration, ease of riding and fit/finish.

Rajiv Bajaj has already made it clear during Q&A at launch presentation that no plans to build a Bajaj bike based on this engine/platform. Bajaj will only manufacture & sell these bikes in India. Triumph manufacturing plants in Brazil & Thailand will receive components from Bajaj plant in India.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

I think this hoopla will settle soon, product being a sportster/scram. If they had launched the Tiger 400, everyone would be worried for sure. Being ubiquitous will not worry existing customers as Triumph products still retain the benefits they paid for. Strictly my thinking! (Just read what SRH had to say above (after posting), and it validates my point)

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

Bit the bullet after 2+ years of dilly dallying on a bike purchase. Booked scrambler 400x in khaki green today. Still skeptical on going ahead as I last owned a commuter 100cc bike more than 11 years ago (scooter doing the duty in between for grocery runs). Also worried that my boys (21 and almost 18) are going to use it more than me.

Going by earlier posts on booking numbers mine was 202307077563051 which effectively means lakhs of bookings done. Does the booking number theory still make sense?

I doubt that now. Mine was 20230705006400. So does that mean they have 75k bookings?

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

@Sebring and @SRH - Thanks both for your timely inputs. I'm glad to see this perspective from others. Often, as a KTM RC 390 rider myself, I hate it when people look down upon "KTM riders" and generalize certain unsavory things. Good to see this point of view.

Also, on a completely different note - I had been wondering how they could price these bikes so well when others have all been 'overpricing' their offerings. So, I wondered if they were going to go with cheaper parts, say, the set of tyres (they did in a way, compared to the away-market, but that is a discussion for another day). So, Autocar explains that in this article and concludes it to be due to the higher volumes they intend to sell.

Also, in this same article, Rishab claims Rajeev Bajaj confirming KTMs would be regarded as niche compared to these two bikes and they are expecting to sell more than what KTM counterparts do in a month. So, the 5000-a-month, may after all really be achieved.
