Wow! 75Lakhs! This definitely seems improbable. It does, doesn't it?! Or is it just me?
I'm wondering if I should doubt the theory or doubt myself for doubting the Indian consumer power!

You mean 75 Lakhs

Re: Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled

I had booked Honda H'ness two months back, after much contemplation between RE 350s and H'ness. I had pretty much kept the Triumph 400 and even the HD 440x as I felt it will be way out of my budget.
I am getting back into biking after a break of close to 5 years. Have clocked lot of miles with my trust worthy Honda Unicorn and was always biased towards H'ness from the time they launched.

However I was surprised (just like everyone else) with the pricing. Though the looks of 440x was not to my liking, after hearing lot of positive reviews about engine, ride quality and stability, I went ahead and booked it.
With Triumph, again checked this thread late in the night of launch and was lucky to get the booking of just below 10k (9880).

I was hoping that Honda will delay the delivery, but today I got the message from dealership that bike is ready. I am very confused now.
Though I like the H'ness, these two bikes are making it feel overpriced. Should I evade Honda for sometime till I get to test ride these bikes?

Correct, we regularly use this type in number series.

2023-07-05- 006400

So anyone who has booked today should see as

2023 07-07-00....

Yes thats correct. Mine is in the top 70 for Speed and under 1800 for Scrambler. it hit me late that for my height (6 ft) the Scrambler would be a better fit. Now it is a wait till we get test rides

Yes I too deciphered it the same way. But then I thought the total bookings were in the range of 6400. Now what if days before 5th July already had above 10k bookings
And how come the 756305 number for today! Will have to wait for more details I guess.
I had contacted the dealer, since I have booked online they are yet to get the details and priority list from Triumph is what the SA shared. They are expecting the display and test drive vehicles by the month end.

The lower end torque of the Speed 400 should be much better than H'ness and should be ages ahead in terms of riding in the city. Atleast for this reason Speed 400 would be better.

Maybe they have a different series for 400X. I booked the Speed and my series was similar to the one below. 00 after the date.

Being CB 350 (blue SMURFY) owner, I feel you should evade. The smooth clutch is the best part of the CB, see if this can beat it. Also the top comfortable cruising speed is 100 on the Honda. Not aware of the top cruising speed on the Triumph

Absolutely! Honda H'ness next to these two, definitely seems overpriced. You should at least check these two from Triumph and then make an informed decision (as long as you have no hurry and I am presuming you don't).

As you say, you are getting back to riding after a long gap. What is another couple of months (to see them all in person and make an informed decision)?

This doesn't seem right, because by that logic, @Mrbaddy's booking number states '202307077563051' indicating 75 Lakhs on just this day?! I am having a hard time digesting the fact that there have been 75 lakhs booking in 3 days, let along one day.

I am also confused among these 3. Tried to make points table based on features (below):
Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X unveiled-point-table.jpg

It is still a close call.

What a predicament to be in. Ok, with so much said about the pros of the Triumph that has caused FOMO, here's some favourable light on the merits of your current booking, the H'ness. As an ex-CB350 owner and currently holding booking of both these indo-western collaborative launches, let me warrant some other values of the Honda that could matter more than the numeric values such as cc, bhp or price.

The Honda Highness has a heel and toe shifter that I found invaluable in convenience and footwear maintenance.

The size and slope of the rear seat of a Highness may suit those with elderly, awkwardly balanced pillions better than the Triumph if that's ur situation often.

The Honda tank capacity is a valuable 2 litres larger and maybe some kms more economical per litre, if touring non-stop or in remote areas is your ability/priority.

The Honda is already selling as is, to the exacting quality standards of a country like Japan, these other two have zero credential as of now, just promise/potential and hype. And they are Bajaj built and Hero built unlike Honda which is Honda built. Some solace there?

The Highness has a louder and dare I say - more addictive during rides exhaust note compared to this Triumph, if that's a factor for you.

The Highness comes in matt finish and some pretty nice subdued mature shades. The Triumph speed is just glossy black, bright blue or bright crimson. If colour matters and Honda has a shade Triumph doesn't, or vice-versa then you know which your heart will want and your head will turn for.

The Honda has a lot more chrome on mud-guards etc. and there's no denying the allure that holds for those seeking a proper retro gleam to the ride.

And this one matters to me, which is why my choice may be the HD over the Triumph when it comes to converting booking to purchase. If I had a lifestyle shuttling between apartment parking and office parking, with most visits to covered mall parking, then my OCD to keep my bikes like new would need less effort and I would consider the shiny, gleaming Speed 400. What also makes the Triumph look so nice is the way the paint gleams... With a life between farm and forest, there is frankly too much dust in MY lifestyle to pick up something that deliciously shiny (gold forks, shiny tank etc.) and have it take up all my time slaving over keeping it mint. How dusty is yours?

That's why my Hness had to go, the sparkly bits...and the HD, which someone here perfectly described as with a face it's own mother wouldn't love, probably suits me just fine to drive in Bangalore and around where most roads are also what its own mother(nature) wouldn't love!

There are other small things unique to the Hness that I know from ownership. Such as a lovely loud dual horn (really loud and pleasant too), Bluetooth connectivity if it matters to you, lower foot pegs for pillion making for longer distance knee comfort for a co-rider...these are all things to consider only if your usage needs it. Use-case, your age and location all play their own part in creating value for the motorcycle. For example - if you travel or live in coastal locations, the Honda has slightly worrisome metal quality in some tucked away areas that invite rust, making the chrome bits look terrible. But Honda has more service centres than Triumph currently, which may hold true for a year more atleast. Again what's close to you matters more than which has how many centres. Finally, at its price the Triumph may set the rep of being a younger dude motorcycle. Many college rippers will own one and since below the helmet there's no telling age, this may be frequently subject to a prejudiced cop stop. With the Highness on the other hand, it's firmly uncle bike looks (okay, let's call it mature rider) and bullet like beat may result in less flagging down. Again, where you ride matters...really micro-mongering differences now so IL stop.

This is a note to just tell you - take the Hness or the Triumph after considering it's value to your lifestyle and not the hype of numeric values that have created such a tizzy! I hope pointing out these Hness merits helped.

Is it available on the Triumph site?
Couldn't find the details. Request if someone could please share link if any.

There is no single cyl bike in India that can "cruise" at 150 kmph.
Looking at the weight and power, surely it can reach a top speed of 150 kmph or more too but cruising comfortably (comfortable for the rider+engine) will always be 120 kmph max for any good refined single cyl bike. Don't think triumph 400 would be any exception to that.

Having said that, let's wait for 14th July when it will be raining reviews of this bike.
