Re: Harley-Davidson X440 launched in India at Rs 2.29 lakh

TVS spent a fortune and every marketing penny on a glitzy launch. PR was in overdrive then, but the result was a dampener, sales wise

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 launched in India at Rs 2.29 lakh

This Harley as per initial reviews appears to be built to a cost. And the Triumph 400 as per initial reviews seems well built. Speed 400's pricing and engine specs make it even more difficult for this baby Harley. Hope it survives!

I think the Triumph launch will hit this hard. It was never a true Harley. It is more in the Dominar, Hunter and KTM 390 territory. Neither is it a 'true retro' like the Classic 350, which is easy going and much more comfortable. It is neither here nor there but it would still have sold, barring now the T400 launch.

Cheers...

Somehow I liked the looks of Harley X440 than Triumph Speed 400. Yes, this Harley doesn't look like a Harley but the Speed looks like a Triumph. But taking that image out, X440 felt much more well-defined than the latter. Not sure which one rides better though. Brand value, its Harley any day for me.

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 launched in India at Rs 2.29 lakh

Having a D390 and a Himalayan in the garage; I would ideally not buy either of these as it would not make any sense.

But if I had to buy one (just to satisfy my itch), it would be the Harley. That motorcycle has butch presence which the Triumph's do not. That watered down Scrambler looks poor. The handguards / knuckleguards look downright shoddy. They could definitely have made it more alike to the real Scrambler's in their line up which you can spot from a million miles away. The Speed 400 is a good replica of the Speed Twin / Steet Twin but for some reason the Triumph Scrambler is not.

In my books - the X440 Harley looks closer to a a real Harley than the Triumph 400 Scrambler looks closer to the real 900cc - 1200 cc Scramblers.

I also feel the same, X440 looks more mature except for the exhaust which can be taken care of easily.

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 launched in India at Rs 2.29 lakh

The Hero/ HD X440 looks decent. Attempts have been made for it to resemble bigger capacity HDs and it shows. It's a nice looking Roadster design, clearly not a sports bike. And the top variant X440 S looks really nice too.

The initial ride (one of ridding opportunity at Hero CIT) impressions are out and the feedback shared are positive, encouraging. Except for the finishing of the builds, no major flaws or issues reported. This is very good considering it's largely developed and built by Hero motors, with HD team and ethos.

Many enthusiasts are missing the point of ride ability of the engine and the handling of the bike, which every tester has lauded. Triumph 400 has grabbed everyone's attention because of the 40hp figure and the overall finish quality. X440 has more metal body parts and Speed 400 has some/ more plastic panels. However both bikes have their pros and cons.

Once the longer/ proper test rides are done, the verdicts will be clear and point out to which could be a better overall bike for long distance/ enthusiasts riding. One can only hope personal bias doesn't creep into those feedbacks.

(Disclaimer: I own a HD Street Rod 750. And if Triumph comes out with a proper Tiger ADV tuned variant of the 400 and priced right too, I am a potential customer).

Hero should immediately offer free upgrade to X440's middle variant for first 20000 customers. Else it is going to be dead on arrival.

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 launched in India at Rs 2.29 lakh

Any idea when the X440 will be available for test drive and delivery? I remember reading that it would be in October, but now that test drive videos are out, I think the timeline can be bit earlier.

Mod Note: Our Harley-Davidson 440X review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!
