Re: Harley-Davidson X440 bookings open in India ahead of July 3 launch

Launch in progress:

3 Variants: Denim, Vivid and S.

Price starting at: INR 229,000. Seems a fantastic launch price

Edit:
  • Denim: INR 229,000
  • Vivid: INR 249,000
  • S: INR 269,000
  • Power: 27Bhp@3000RPM and Torque: 37Nm@4000rpm
  • TFT Console with Smart Connect was highlighted.

The power figures seemed low at first. I am no expert on bikes, but peak power as low as 3000RPM along with peak torque at 4000rpm I assume is very good. I was looking at the power curve of the Triumph 400 and although the peak power is 40bhp, it is at 8000RPM and even power of 30bhp is at 6000rpm. Very interested to hear what the experts have to say about this.

Starting price of Rs.229000 seems to be fantastic.

The Triumph makes the peak power at 8000rpm and peak torque at 6500rpm. So, the engine characteristics are pretty different. Lot of talk on the engine sound. I think pricing will be key

Starting at 2,29,000/-, next variant at 2,49,000/- and top at 2,69,000/-
Hearing the exhaust note, this seems to a low revving thumper similar with RE engines. RE500 also has similar power/torque numbers. So 27bhp and 38Nm seems plausible, more so looking at the price.

We have got used to some slick launches from RE, but this launch sets a new low for production quality. Hopefully the motorcycle makes up for it!

Thats a fantastic price. Will defintely lure the RE and Honda Highness crowd. Even I am tempted though I am not in the market for a motorcycle :-)

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 bookings open in India ahead of July 3 launch

This is great pricing!

However, I would have differentiated this as the Harley Davidson X series of motorcycles, to keep it away from the bigger, more expensive and far better finished Harleys.

Also goes to show Honda was lazy with the CB 350 and lost an opportunity to either be a close 2nd to Royal Enfield or carve a new niche and make it difficult for new entrants.

The X440 is obviously built to a price and I would stay away from the bike for the first year of its launch.

A couple of more models on the same platform and ability to customise as Harley is famous for, will be good for dealers and customers alike.

For most weekend short ride riders (150-200 km) , a single cylinder offering in the 2.5L to 3.5L bracket makes absolute sense.

Kudos to the Hero/Harley combine !

Harley-Davidson X440: Price

The base-spec Denim variant is priced at Rs 2.29 lakh, ex-showroom while Vivid is priced at Rs 2.49 lakh, ex-showroom. The top-spec Pinnacle comes with a price tag of Rs 2.69 lakh, ex-showroom.

Pretty good pricing IMHO, should do some good numbers. The quality is a question though, let’s see some real life reviews.

Based on the pricing and specs, squarely aimed at Honda highness and maybe, to a lesser extent at RE. Hope this doesn't give triumph reason to overprice their bikes.

@Senotrius, definitely seems like it...it's got the Meteor and the Highness firmly in its sights. Triumph must have breathed easy right now.

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 bookings open in India ahead of July 3 launch

Just watched the launch event:

1. Simple 2 valve oil cooled engine producing 27 bhp @ 6000 rpm and 38 nm @ 4000 rpm. Not a high revving engine.
2. Trellis Frame claimed to be a robust one according to Indian conditions
3. 320mm front disc, rear disc size not disclosed. Dual Channel ABS
4. 43 mm USD with dual cartridge front forks. Rear pre-load adjustable dual gas charged suspension.
5. TFT round console with, call, messages, music, navigation RTMI, DTE, battery voltage indicator. Ambient Light sensor so display has day and night modes.
6. Three variants:
Denim - Solid Colour - Yellow, spoke wheels.
Vivid - Dual Tone Colours - Red and Dark Silver with Black, Alloy Wheels
S - Diamond Cut Alloys, Machined Engine Fins, 3D Emblems, Advanced Connectivity in TFT Console, Mattle Black Colour
7. Booking link opens tomorrow - https://www.harley-davidsonx440.com/order-booking.html

I feel the first two versions (Denim and Vivid) are going to get good sales.
Pricing is sensible, hope they don't increase it.

Harley-Davidson X440 launched in India at Rs 2.29 lakh

Harley-Davidson has launched its most affordable model in the Indian market. The X440 is available in three variants priced at Rs 2.29 lakh, Rs 2.49 lakh and Rs 2.69 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively.

The Harley-Davidson X440 is a mid-capacity roadster. It features a circular LED headlamp, a single-pod instrument console, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank and a single-piece seat. The bike is equipped with a flat handlebar, forward-set footpegs and a single side-mounted exhaust.

The base variant is available in single-tone colours and wire-spoke wheels, while the mid-spec comes in dual-tone shades and is equipped with alloy wheels. The top variant of the X440 comes with diamond-cut alloys and Bluetooth connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation.

The X440 is powered by a 440cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine that produces 27 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 38 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. It uses a chain final drive similar to the Pan America.

The X440 is based on a tubular chassis and is equipped with upside-down forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. The bike rides on alloy wheels with 18-inch rims at the front and 17-inch at the rear. Braking is handled by discs supported by dual-channel ABS.

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 bookings open in India ahead of July 3 launch

Not at all the figures I expected but superb challenger to the RE 350s not to mention baller pricing! This thing looks like it’ll chugs away the miles all day. Given that Hero has a very decent travel record for reliability I can totally see people who don’t want to go the RE way flocking towards it, not even factoring in the the brand. Its a really good thing for buyers when one has proper viable options. Real cat among the pigeons. I think I’ll buy up some Hero stock!

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 launched in India at Rs 2.29 lakh

The torque figures looks really nice at those rpm range. It would be nice to see how it actually feels in real world.
Looking at the base price, it maybe near ~2.8-3L on road which is pretty nice I would say.
Its priced very cut-throat to Dominar 400. If the Triump 400 gets priced under ~3L, the category would be pretty hot!!!!!

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 launched in India at Rs 2.29 lakh

Great days ahead for the motorcyclists in India. Whats funny is that I had booked the RE hunter 350 two weeks back and am expecting delivery this week.

I would be most likely cancelling that and picking up either a Triumph 400 or the Harley Davidson X440. Getting into motorcycling after a gap of 7 years, my previous bike being a Yamaha FZS.

Royal Enfield was a childhood dream but I am floored by the exhaust note of this X440. What a thump. Looking forward to the ride reviews of both the Triumph and the Harley on team BHP to make my final decision.

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 launched in India at Rs 2.29 lakh

It appears Harley has been keeping a close eye on the RE in Indian context. The power and torque figures of the engine in X440 are just above the RE 350cc J series engine while retaining their engine characteristics of having more torque than power. May be Harley did what Jawa and Yezdi were supposed to do to have a chunk of RE sales. Also it is what Honda missed with their 350s by directly copying the REs.

Re: Harley-Davidson X440 launched in India at Rs 2.29 lakh

Reasonably prized I would say considering that Honda H'ness CB350 and CB350RS are about 2.1 lacs ex-showroom. X440 appears to be better specced with upside down forks, a better display console etc. Looks are a bit polarizing however. It will be interesting to see how this rides.
