Excellent pricing and good that Hero will handle sales & service. Although some of the design is a bit out of place, like the splendor like indicator plastic. Not sure if the ergonomics are quite right, which may cause the rider to slouch a bit.

Truimph 400's design, quality and power:weight feels like a more global product, like a VW Polo, while X440 feels like a Figo.

Power to weight ratio is better than CB350. Should force Honda to launch the CL300 hopefully, and that's when things would get real interesting.

Is it a design or a undersized tank? There seems to be a visible gap between the tank and the handle bar stem!
And the silencer looks a bit sticking out type too.
Apart from that it's surprisingly better than imagined. Still wouldn't go for it because the DNA seems too confusing!

Seems like a revisit to Harley AMF days, small capacity motorcycles introduced to compete with Japan brands back in the day, guess the Hero Harley combo is going the same route that Harley tried in the late 70’s when they were bought by AMF and failed miserably also making a dent on Harley’s brand image.
Here’s a picture of a 1976 AMF Harley-Davidson SX125 which reminds me of the retro modern H’ness CB 350 in some ways.

Where will it get serviced? I asked for average service cost in Harley showroom for their big bike, and it was an eye watering 5 figure amount per year.

How ever the bike may be but we have to appreciate that Harley is trying too hard for Indian market. First they came directly & failed miserably and now through partnership taking heed from BMW, KTM etc. Looks like these companies are really making money and inspiring other brands to follow.

Probably other markets are damn saturated and India/China are the only growing markets to make money through number game. OR does Harley believes that Indians are still their hardcore fans and price was the only lagging factor earlier? Time will tell.

Personally I feel it is one brand which can pull crowds without much efforts just that the product should click. And they should be ready with more arsenal.

Product and service quality is what can save this bike. If the showrooms behave in the same manner as old Harley ones, chapter closed. They need to understand and keep in mind that this is just another bike with intense competition and customer is the king who needs to be respected and treated well.

Hope Hero service centers are well equipped to handle the spares and expertise at reasonable cost to justify the competition.

After looking at more and more pictures of this bike - I'm starting to admire the TVS Ronin!

From proportions to ungainly elements - this bike just looks so wrong to my eyes. Not to mention the complete lack of a Harley identity.

Will be sad for our market if it succeeds on the price factor alone.

Agree. From a pure design and aesthetic perspective, this is just - nowhere. Even the 750 had its share of audience because all said and done it looked every part a Harley and had an excellent engine - all at an accessible price point. This one lacks any identity whatsoever and even if it had to have an independent identity, its nothing to write home about. The design is confused and the aesthetic elements completely all over the place.

This segment is getting more and more options. My sense is this will end up somewhat in no man’s land. The J type engine is extremely competent and off hand from what I’ve seen, I’d sooner buy RE’s J type based offerings than this.

Go up the ladder a bit and there are some exquisitely designed Triumphs to be had. I’ll be surprised (and like you, disappointed) if people buy this for the price factor alone. At similar price, my money’s still on the RE and for a little more, on the entry Triumphs. The 450 REs will only put further pressure with their onslaught of offerings based on the new Himalayan engine.

Let’s wait for the ride report. Unless the overall engine and performance is mind blowingly great for people to overlook all else, its definitely got its work cut out.

Exhaust reminds of UM Renegade whereas Chassis of Honda Rebel series. Tank should have been at angle like other Harleys or even Honda Rebel.

Pricing is good, although Hero shouldn't think of changing it for next one year.

In variants, connected features should have been made available in mid-variant Vivid as well. Matte Black is generally reserved as special edition in Indian market, not as top end variant.
In colourful India and more particularly Rajasthan where Hero R&D operates, bright colours should be default choice for top variant. Hero/HD should either offer connected features in mid-variant or offer mid-variant colours in top variant.

This model is a collaborative version, there shouldn't be any Hero version.
