Re: 2024 Honda NX500 unveiled

Booked my NX500 today at Big Wing Mahadevpura (Bangalore). There were 3 bookings before me so I could be in for a wait. But am sure it will be worth it,

Book safely.
BigWing Bengaluru made it official.
No white colour for India, though (Best colour, as per me). Only RED/BLACK.

Almost can get a Himalayan + Aprilia RS 457 for a similar price - both offering similar performance and fun in two different dimensions as compared to the Honda

I hope my birdies are right on Honda targeting the old discounted CB500X price for the NX as well.

I agree. An 'exotic' European brand makes and sells a twin in India at an 'affordable' price. Exotic wrt pricing. Even the old discounted pricing sounds exhorbitant for a Honda now. This will get it's niche buyers again and be sold out. But now it doesn't make as much sense. Competition is good.

Also- Aprilia can easily make Tuono/Toureg derivatives based on the new twin in a few years time. Even then it would be cheaper. Something RE will also eventually do. The Himalayan 650. Would undercut the NX 500 massively.

That is still 5.8 lacs Ex-Showroom, good luck honda selling it at that price also. Market has moved on, and except Kawasaki both the japanese are still in there own lala land when it comes to pricing.

Re: 2024 Honda NX500 unveiled

I don't get why people are comparing a manufactured in India product with an imported to India product. The price is what it is because of the exorbitant duties that are tacked on, otherwise wouldn't the two products be selling at similar prices like they do in other countries?

This is obviously a very fine product, those who have ridden it have had nothing but good things to say about it. And there will be some people for whom, the extra 1-2 lakh is not a deterrent. Honda is obviously targeting those people.

This could be true but the difference in on road pricing between it's international rivals in India comes to around 3-4L, not 1-2L, assuming the pricing is going to be closer to the discounted price of old CB500X around 5.8L. If it is anything like the initial pricing, it's DOA again. No matter how good the product is, the pricing will make it niche. You will hardly find any takers for it. Unless the plan from Honda is to sell 5-10 bikes a year, this makes no sense from a manufacturer standpoint. Honda discounting the CB500X by 1L certainly meant the market didn't share the same feelings as you.

Rumour: Honda NX500 unofficial pre-bookings open in India

Honda is likely to launch the NX500 in India soon and as per the latest reports, some BigWing dealers may have started taking pre-bookings already.

Honda NX500 to be launched in India soon. Edit: Launched at 5.9 lakhs-458550_24ym_nx500.jpg

Reports suggest that unofficial pre-bookings are being accepted for a token amount of Rs 10,000, with deliveries expected to commence in February-March 2024.

The Honda NX500 was unveiled at EICMA 2023. It replaces the CB500X in the brand’s ADV line-up. The bike is powered by a 471cc, parallel-twin engine, which now features a crank counterweight and balancer shaft. Honda claims these upgrades have made the engine smoother. It develops 47 BHP and 43 Nm. Honda has also updated the ECU for improved acceleration.

The NX500 is equipped with a 41 mm Showa upside-down fork and a monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by dual 296 mm discs at the front and a single disc at the rear. The bike rides on lightweight wheels that are said to reduce unsprung weight by 1.5 kg, adding to an overall weight loss of 3 kg.

Aprilia should make haste and launch a tuareg 440 with a 5-5.2 lakh price , it will eat the Honda's lunch.

Correct me if I'm wrong but only the VStrom in its category currently right?

re: Honda NX500 to be launched in India soon. Edit: Launched at 5.9 lakhs

Hope Honda launches it keeping in mind the value offered by the new Himalayan and the upcoming KTM 390 Adv. If this retails for anything over 7 L on-road, that is simply too much to pay for an extra cylinder.

CKD vs Built in India factor can't be excluded. True. It is quite sad that Honda didn't go ahead with its once-declared plan of localization of the 500cc platform in India. But this taxation isn't solely responsible for the above rumoured prices.

Even comparing CKD bikes, the old discounted price is at a premium to expect. For example - compare the Kawasaki Ninja 400 vs the Honda NX500. Both bikes are very similarly priced in most markets. Since most of these CKD kits come from Thailand, taking example from the Thai market.

Kawasaki Ninja 400 - 2,24,200 bhat (Lime Green)
Honda NX 500 - 2,27,900 bhat

Now the Ninja 400 is not even a CKD, but a CBU.

Even then it is priced at 5.24 lakhs, which means Honda could price it anywhere closer to 5L if they want with much lesser taxation than the Kawasaki. This would also mean a 1.5L'ish premium compared to the Royal Enfield - which would be palatable for more people looking at the additional refinement and reliability.

The old discounted price of 5.69L is very very possible to expect and carries good money for Honda. After the CB500X debacle- they know this is the price for the product to sell.

Internationally the NX500 belongs in the same A2 segment as the Himalayan 450 and KTM 390 Adventure. In India - it sits on its own between the above two motorcycles and the 650cc segment due to pricing.

The Vstrom retails at the upper end of the 650 cc segment and is closer to 10L OTR. Triumph Tiger 660 sport sits midway, and the versys 650 (7.8ish now if I am not wrong) at the lower end of the 650 price spectrum.

This would be a full segment below and slot amongst the adv 500s - performance and cost-wise (there are not that many there), Benelli TRK 502 etc.

The key here would be the pricing. Honda have been living in la-la-land so far and have seen competent products crash and burn and that's a pity. Unless they stick to the thumb rule of 1L per 100cc, they are unlikely to see significant traction this time as well.

If only…. The V is about 9 ex showroom and in our blighted Karnataka, over 11 on road. The Versys is 7.8 ex showroom and nearly 10 on road. The 660 Tiger is nearly 9.5 ex showroom and a shade under 12 on road but may very well represent the best value overall though the V is the only one of the three which is less than purely road oriented.
