I am actually working on diesel engines from 350cc to 650 cc single ,twin with DI , IDI and also I am working on an engine with a rotary pump .

MY inspiration is based on taurus , HDT motorcycle .the prototype engine might be completed in another 6 months ,may be then I can give you an engine suitable for a motorcycle .

The generic pumpset engines are not worth the effort as ,as soon as you have done the swap , you might not be really interested in riding the bike .

The best engine as of now would be a lombardini FOCS series engine ,but thats not avaliable in India . Kubota or a yanmar would be fine as well .

@greatmana :: Nice i am looking for a conversion project for quite some time. The price they quote for FOCS engine is beyond justification.
Can you tell me what are your engine choices for the transplant? Just checking the feasibility for tata ace or ape truk.

APe engines are avaliable in the 2nd hand market for 25,000 to 30,000 .

Lombardini greaves units are avaliable at 4000 to 10000 rupees .

If someone is only concerned about saving money compromising their lifespan, it should be ok. It has such a crude engine which would have been ok in the 1960's. Nothing to talk about in this century.

Re: Royal Enfield Taurus diesel

Many non tbhp guys read this thread for any info on the Taurus, so plz add this to the database too.

One major difference between the petrol and Diesel clutch case is this part. I dont recall the name but this is where the clutch plates are fit. The one with a extra built-in bush is OE on a Taurus, and it is designed to hold 4 plates Vs the 350's 3 clutch plate system. (500CC petrols had the 4 plate)

Re: Royal Enfield Taurus diesel

Just returned from Thimayya road and Broadway in Shivajinagar after searching for Diesel bikes and didn't find even single bullet there. A mechanic told me he knows one who has bike but it would cost around 80 thousand rupees. Looks like Enfield prices have increased many fold in the last couple of years. Let me know if any of you know good delaers or friends who has a diesel bike for sale. Also on the other note can thunderbird be converted into diesel bike?

Re: Royal Enfield Taurus diesel

Saw a diesel bullet near marathalli bengaluru this morning. It was very refined, was running smooth, just as loud as my Electra. Could identify only from the smoke.

wondering if it is the Taurus or a custom-built one. Could not talk to the rider or click pics in the trafffic
