My 1st Bike - Splendor (I hate it)

Though by the time my father bought 1st bike for me I had driven few two wheelers belonging to our relatives.

My 1st bike was Splendor, recommended by my 2 years senior cousin who was hell bent on getting his favourite bike for me (sort of something that suits his AUKAAT for enetrnity... & he has not got over his status tille date, nor willdo in near future). I never wanted the bike, & instead wanted YBX or the Calibre. The bike was low on power & average (read mileage) was average by any means (60-70 kmpl). Coupled to this ride quality was equally average. My ownership experience was below average despite taking care of the bike like my baby (comopunded by the worst break-in riding by my cousin, who insisted on riding for the initial 1k kms on grounds that he was a superior rider, only to be learned that the superior rider has damaged the Chain-Set & caused couple of accidents, apart from riding it well past the recommended speeds/RPM band). Finally got rid of the nightmare @ INR 15,000 after 5.5 years & 45k kms (sold to my trusted mechanic who took at little over insured value).

I fact me & my brother own 150 cc bikes (Fiero & Pulsar), & barring the below average service part of the Authorized S.S., the bikes have aged well in every aspect (the mileage always 55-65 kmpl in Delhi), speeds around 110 kmph (speedo display), despite riding the two on a daily basis like boy-racers (5k rpm). IN fact the two have now crossed 100K & 50K respectively & still going strong (unlike Splendor which had started to fall apart & ever increasing trips to the A.** & mechanic).

Me & my brother, both, have shunned HH bikes sine then.

Here goes:

Scooty KS 2001, my first commute in college, sold it the same year. Impulsive buy, most happy to sell.

Bajaj Boxer 2001, sold 2002, the worst piece of machine I ever rode !! I remember it for most for the numerous time it would stop on the streets, sometimes after getting back from the garage in the morning!!

LML Vespa NV 1998 used by my father, was mine for a year in 2003 when there was no bike I itched to buy. Excellent 2 stroker with amazing initial pick-up which scared me no limits with its small wheels whenever I found the road to take it above 60 kmph!

HH Splendor 1999, bought used by my brother in 2002 sold in 2003, very comfortable in the city.

Yamaha RX 135, bought used, again by my brother in 2003. Needless to say the bike with the best engine I have used, sold in 2005.

Bajaj Pulsar DTSi 150 2004, the bike I held on to for the longest. Great looker, heaps ahead of my previous Bajaj, the Boxer but hard gear box and handling not so good, chain issues, rattling sounds, water in fuel filler ....phew, sold in 2009.

RE Thunderbird 2002, a friends bike, mine to keep for a year while he did super speciality. First bike I did over a 100 kmph in (came quite close in the pulsar), pain to park in the city and clueless gearbox, enjoyed the attention it got me for the entire last year in college in 2006.

Suzuki Access 125, completed a year on this excellent scooter last week. Has been fun and trouble free riding. The least I have had to spend so far to maintain, is this bike. Only grouse is the braking and suspension.

> RX-135 1999 - kept this bike till 2009. enjoyed every bit of this bike still a superb machine. still in demand speaks the quality.

> Apache RTR Fi - bought in 2009 and sold it in 2010. No issues awesome bike with all the bells and whistles. but wanted to fullfill my dreams. i use to c all those army green bullets in my campus. And even dad use to get this ride sometimes.

My first and only motorcycle: Suzuki Fiero 2000 model.

I recently spent close to 30k on the bike and the bike is as good as new.
Changed all the body panels and fuel tank. Dismantled and repainted bike (even the new parts in black as it was difficult to source the parts in the same colour). Replaced all the old parts except the engine and carburettor.

I intend to retain it as long as the spare parts are available.
